Sounds a whole heck of a lot like what iircade was trying to do and we all know how that turned out. The difference, of course, is it sounds like using their store is totally optional since at least some of the units use mini PCs and you can bring your own ROMs. As far as the end user is concerned, there may not need to be a lot of units sold for this to still be a usable device.
Yeah if they grow their "user base" by just having people sign up and use the AGS App and Software technically they don't need to sell them an arcade machine.
I think the Polycade has alot of positives, build, customizable, its own software, offering a mini pc, good controls, cool games The negatives are not ergo for sitting, adding all the stuff cost alot of money, the stand is expensive, the screen could be bigger and especially rotational, best to mount on the wall. I am looking forward to see how people will like it, I passed, to me a CandyCab makes more sense for my layout. The screen is 24" not 27" I know you said that a few times, I wish it was a 32" rotational screen and I would have purchased one.
I purchased one with the topper marquee. I think $1250 was a great price for a commercial grade Arcade machine made out of premium steel. I also like the modular design of it. they have a steering wheel, Trackball, a 4 way joysticks, a flight stick to name a few. Awesome product much better than a standard Arcade1up for sure!, but it costs way more too.
The Polycade has been on my radar. But, with the intro of the Nova Blast, thats now a more than likely purchase. IF, they go the route of IIrcade, it would be a huge bummer to be in a wait and see for cool titles, roms and so on. Although, with a PC you have access to a huge library of games, including roms and emulation. Ill be on a holding pattern for this. I do look forward to your review. Is the screen on the Polycade rotatable? I believe it is not.
No rotating screen. I like that I can just log into my Steam account and play the games I already own, etc. The Nova Blast is on my radar too - Multicades are really going to pop next year

Nova Blast took my money. Unico offered what is the perfect product for my needs. This is interesting, but at about the same price, and as someone who owns arcade pcbs, this just doesn’t hit the mark for me. If I want emulation etc, the Nova Blast can have a Mars fpga or pc plugged into it.
I love what I've seen of this console, but that price tag was way too far from my reach unfortunately. The design is very sleek, i love the modular control deck, the standup addon is nice, and it looks high quality (heard someone say its made of steel?) But owning one of these feels like a pipe dream for the average person. Do you think they would eventually make a economic version of the cabinet if this version did well? Would you think it worth it for them to do anyway?
If you find the Polycade lacking after you test it, check out the wall mounted cabinets I build for Umbrella Arcades. They cost a bit less than their older model, but the quality of nearly every component is higher, and it comes loaded with 20,000 games. The Batocera user interface is extremely user friendly, and it runs everything from old arcade games to PS3 and Switch.
Had mine a few weeks now and really impressed with the unit overall. (I got direct from Pixelheart in France as i live in the UK) i really hope you're onto something with it becoming possible to add more games. I really like the art work on it as is though.
My biggest problem with the Polycade is the fact that it's bolted to the wall. I like to change things up once in a while and don't want to be patching holes to do so. Then there's the price...

I own one of the original Polycades. I'd be worried about this one. AGS software is rarely updated. Customer service is not good. The store is really bare bones and full of a few arcade roms and some console roms. They have an interesting past and have kickstarted several times. If they are selling these new ones, they are likey really cutting corners. I use mine as a steam machine but I replaced the PC to a higher-end machine.
The "rumor" I heard was that instead of building these in the United States like their previous models (which draws a higher cost of production) this new line of Sente Machines are being manufactured overseas in China which is how they are able to offer them at a lower price. Again, just a "rumor" so don't quote me on it.
The owner Tyler got a lot of these questions in the comment section during the Kickstarter, and he assured everyone that those problems are being addressed. I think he knows that they have to get it right with the Sente or it may be it for the Polycade brand.
@pdubs, do you consider the Polycade and especially the Unico Candy Cab as Commercial units or Consumer products? All metal construction, real, working coin doors, JAMA harness, seems Commercial to me, and at the price, a quite affordable unit. As a Consumer product it's awfully expensive, and hard to justify for home use, IMO
It looks like an awesome product that doesnt take up a bunch of room but the price is a little high if you still have to add your own PC..or does it come with the PC ready to go for $1200?
I love the concept, the execution, the modularity, the software... I just hate the look 😂. I liked that more conventional model they have, if that was modular like this, that would strike gold

Yes its made of steel or metal, this is supposed to be the "economic" version compared to their standard $3K+ machines

I dropped a dollar for the preorder, but being I had to add my own gaming PC or other gaming system, I decided against it. I’d rather get the ALU 4K.

I joined the preorder list but decided against it. Modular control panels seem to be a bit pricey. Shipping is pricey, too.
I think it’s way too pricey at the non early-bird price. Will likely impact any further adoption.

They do sell a stand separately that you can put it on to move it around the house but like you said price...you do have to buy that stand separately.
Not true at all.
They have an optional stand that you can buy for it. It slides right into the stand, so no need to hand on the wall.

Polycade Sente only has a 24” screen per their Kickstarter site. No better than my ALU.
