  • Join Locomotive Mike for this latest railfan webisode! This installment looks at the Thayer North Subdivision of the BNSF Railway between Springfield, MO and Thayer, MO. This busy mainline hosts heavy coal, intermodal, and freight traffic between California and Kansas City and Memphis and Birmingham. See GE and EMD locomotives leading up these fast freight movements. This route is a heavy-duty former Burlington Northern line was originally a part of the Frisco Railroad.
Thank you for subscribing to Locomotive Mike's Rail Channel! Join Mike for railway tours and railroad rides across the midwestern and western United States! A special focus is given to the trains of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and California.
We cover hotshot trains and railfan hotspots along routes of the BNSF, Union Pacific, Amtrak, along with several commuter, regional, and shortline railroads. Many of the freight trains covered include run-through locomotive power from the CSX and Norfolk Southern railroad companies. We'll also include webisodes featuring lines formerly owned by Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, Frisco, Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, Missouri-Kansas-Texas, Rock Island, and others.
Mike Landis, who produces and narrates The Main Track, is available for your voiceover project.

I've railfanned at all these spots before!! I think it's really cool that you do too. The footbridge is one of my favorite spots, along with Turners Missouri. And I have a boat down at Table Rock Lake close to The Branson Scenic Railway in your profile pic.

Springfield has two really cool things. Bass pro shops and Grizzly tools.

It's just too bad that no freight train is allowed to go any faster than 70 MPH on any track nowadays. It's not the same as railroads and trains a decade or more ago. Back then, the railroads allowed freight trains and their crews to operate just about as fast as they wanted and it was not uncommon to see hotshot and highball freight trains safely go as fast as 90+ MPH on straight well-maintained tracks. It used to be a pleasure to see those long, 90+MPH freights 'flying' past me at rail crossings! Those were the days!
