Another gem
Excellent. Charles Laughton, can't be bettered.😊👍🏻
Found this title when spotted in the intriguing WWII book by the highly praised & sound writings of Ms Jennet Conant. Forester had been sent to get stories out of a tall, handsome British airman named Roald Dahl. Dahl “jotted” down his memories of his being shot down & sent it off. Forester was “bowled over” by the copy & “didn't change a word.” It appeared in The Saturday Evening Post & Dahl received a $1,000 check for his maiden efforts! Dahl was touched by genius in many fields.
Ms Conant has written two other works: 109 East Palace (Robert Oppenheimer & the Secret City of Los Alamos and Tuxedo Park (A Wall Street Tycoon & the Secret Palace that Changed the Course of WWII. I hope you will delve into these fascinating tales & wish you Good Reading😊
Charles Laughton, Ray Milland and Maureen O'Sullivan were in the 1932 film version of the same play.
