You'll probably be looking for a JD1355, 2.5m cut, overall width 2.7m, 5 discs. Would be a good idea to also have a look at a Keverneland/Taarup 337 or 4024, 2.4m cut, 6 discs and overall width of 2.4m. The overall width makes a big difference for transport. Whatever trailed mower you decide on, get one that attaches to the lift arms. You can turn at an angle more than 90 degrees with full power and no stress on the driveline.
Nice video Dec! The Marangon has been a good mower for you. Partly because it is made well, but also because you look after you're equipment well. You won't have any problem with a trailed mower. It isn't an investment in the work the mower does - it's an investment in yourself working with a mower. Best wishes in finding the right fit!
When I was building, I went through many machines 🙂👍🏻. Good luck Declan. Hopefully conditioner is steel on ticor or steel. Rocks are hard on rubber 👍🏻. The flails do a decent job on grass. My NH is a pain to hitch🙁. Thus I LOVE the self propelled for hay. The disc is nice for clipping pastures. Take care🙂
I did a good share of mowing with a trailed JD 1360 mower, bullet proof machine, 10 foot cut and was on the drawbar not the lift arms....a pleasure to work, much more enjoyable than a mounted mower. I suspect a jD 1350 would suit you or the newer 1355, they were 8 foot cut trailed mowers. Big mowers though for narrow gaps and lanes, especially if turning in to your right off a lane into a field or turning right out of a field...if turning left, you can fold out the mower to help make if follow the track of the tractor. Only downside is alot of those JD mowers would have a lot of work done and trailed more expensive than mounted mowers.
I think you would be mad to buy a trailed mower for the drawbar, 2 point linkage far better system letting you turn tighter and all very easy to put on too 👍
The Marangon mower range do not use a Comer bed. The bed, and round discs are designed by the Marangon company. It is a family owned company and Tractamotors Ltd in Cavan are the sole importers of this mower into Ireland. By the way Marangon produce a trailed version too. Available in 8'1", 9'4", and 10'5" sizes
Have the exact same mower only difference is it was made in 2005 so she’s a fair age but still a good yoke i have had no real issues with it except from having to change the belts once a few years ago it’s a great all round mower
I would advise not to get one for the draw bar/pickup hitch had one before and got rid of it after a few months because you can turn as sharp and link arms will get caught in either the drive shaft or else the bottom of the draw bar
Correct, a mower on the hitch won't suit turning in smaller fields. I would have gone for a good 4 rotor tedder instead of a conditioner, you would be able to get silage ready quicker in short weather windows that we sometimes get in wet years and you would have it to make hay also, let the contractor row it when ready for baling
@@thomas_4426 the thing with a trailed mower, if it is tight getting into a gap you can slightly push the mower away ( as in unfold it ) At the end of the day it all depends on what your use to
Had you any problems with yours not folding up fully ? You’d move the lever to fold it up itd go up to a point and you’d have to push it in for them last bit
Cheers for that bit of advice Mark, I had no experience with any but like you said it limits how much you can turn and to always be minding not to hit the PTO shaft would be a nuisance!
We have about 10 head of sucklers that was cut in half 2 year ago and now we are moving into beef. Currently killing about 10 head of bullocks a year and trying to grow that. Sheep are also on the farm

Don't buy the John Deere mower it was probably a contractors mower and it would have been on a lot of jobs and wore out buy a side mounted more like a krown 8f
Cheers for that your not wrong they just seem to do well for lads but many of them coming out of contractors yards ya! Not sure about a side mounted but ill be looking over winter/spring!
Would recommend the gyro headstock for turning and getting into corners.. much less watching for yourself when your using it..
Best of luck Declan with the sale. 👍🏼
Cheers Boss

A jd 1355 is 8ft aswell so would be good job for him

John Deere 1350 are brilliant mowers we have one in arms and it’s a great machine
Also a 1350 are farmers machines also anything bigger we’re generally contractors machines so done more work
Great video, your videos are something farmers starting off can really relate to. 👍
How many acres do you farm
Farming 45 at the moment we have another 30-40 that we are currently leasing out while we build up stock and a few sheds!
Clean tractor. Try always cover an open hydraulic ram with grease when your not using it for a while. It stops them from rusting.
I think you would be mad to buy a trailed mower for the drawbar, 2 point linkage far better system letting you turn tighter and all very easy to put on too 👍
You are probably right there, I had no experience with a trailed yoke but now I know the drawbar can be a headache!

Well done brilliant video great detail fine mowers will never give you a days problem 👍
They are a decent yoke. Do a great job. Quality of the steel isnt great a bit soft!

I thought trail mowers were a thing of the past. fold up mowers on the lift are far easier to get into fields etc
Aye in my opinion I definitely wouldn't switch from a fold up mower to a trailed one.
@@thomas_4426 we have a trailed mower and tis a fine yoke ro get in and out gaps

@@eoinking10yes I agree
U spending mad at the moment, fair duce to ya,hope u get what you want, hard to get a good one
Not actually spending much just doing some good trading. Ill be on the search for a mower for a few weeks i think. Cheers Pat
Great video. Best off luck. Getting the mower u want 👍
Thanks Sean, im still on the search
The trailed mowers on the lifts are far better because u can turn tighter with them
Ur dead right. I think he would regret buying a hitch mounted mower. There's no issues Hitching on the 3 point linkage either.
@@Dave-jm5yo it's not even a 3 point it's a 2 point so it's even easier
Indeed Sean. They're a great job for small fields too.
@@Dave-jm5yo exactly dave
Great 👍 video keep them coming stay safe 👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🚜🚜👩🌾👩🌾
Thanks, will do!
I'd imagine your looking a 1360 or something like that good machines I believe 👍
Too Big
If your going to buy a trail mower go for a taarup/kneverland or a Krone you will get resale value in years to come
Kverneland/Taarup are very well built mowers and will go on forever. The gyro swivel head is a must though
Had you any problems with yours not folding up fully ? You’d move the lever to fold it up itd go up to a point and you’d have to push it in for them last bit
No i didnt have that issue, was that a problem with the ram. The chrome on my ram was pitted on delivery. Quality not great on the ram
Good luck with the sale.
Cheers Boss
Looks well on the deere
She did hey, never ran her up properly on it 🚜
Malone good mower come with skids for topping
Where can I get parts
1365 are real good and I believe the the 1360 are good mower
Would you get a Kuhn mower ?
They seem decent I wouldn't turn one down!
@@IDoAgri we have one 4 years now on stoney land it does the job nicely now I must say
You should keep your current mower for another 2 years
Where did you come up with this number?
Any look with a loader for the Deere
Looking at a 640 a Currently
What ever you do don’t get one on the hitch had one ourself you can’t turn at all in the field get one on the links
Cheers for that bit of advice Mark, I had no experience with any but like you said it limits how much you can turn and to always be minding not to hit the PTO shaft would be a nuisance!
How much cattle do you keep

@@IDoAgri fair play
Would he not keep the disc mower for topping nd just buy a conditioner
A conditoner would b a heavy machine t top ground with
Is it possible to use trailed mower fof topping? or do you have a seperate topper.
No you can use a trailed mower for toping
If you really wanted to and set them up right you could top with a butterfly mower
Aidan we have an old major topper for topping. It aint the best but does the job and our graxing ground has a lot of stone so we dont want anything to expensive on it!
J.D You'd want a bigger tractor for that i reckon haha 😅
Worst think u could do is buy a conditioner mower it will be a big pull on that tractor and to no advantage
Something same as Malone take swarfs off for topping pity don't have 2 stands left and right for taking of and on
my 1350 jd mower had a draw bar on it
John Deere 1350 or 1355 is what u need a 1360 or 1365 would be too big for your tractor 👍
Yeah I agree, 8ft is all I would need. Anything bigger is just too big for the farm and tractor. Cheers Owen
get a john deere 1350 8ft mower we have one of them and its bomb proof
Don't buy the John Deere mower it was probably a contractors mower and it would have been on a lot of jobs and wore out buy a side mounted more like a krown
