TALES FROM THE FAR TERRITORY is the first paid expansion pass for The Long Dark’s Survival Mode. Releasing in multiple Parts over the course of a 12-month campaign, The Expansion significantly adds to the world of Great Bear Island and the game’s core Survival foundation, with new Regions, new Gameplay, and new objective-based Tales.

My friend Nicholas loved this game. It was the first thing we spoke about when we met 7 years ago. He took his life last year and I've dreaded picking up this game since. I think I'm playing it again now because it feels cathartic in a way. I think he would have loved to see all the updates for the game.
Hey, friend. As someone who has been in that spot where, for me, there was no way through but out - thank you for being a good friend to your buddy. Depression is an insidious thing, and even if someone loses that battle, what matters is you were there for your friend until the end. Surviving that loss is another hardship. If it's a lot. play the game in small pieces. If you're feeling overwhelmed by emotion, that's okay. It's tied to a friend you lost, it's going to have an impact. What I can say is this: I'm just one guy a world away in the US, but I'll set a candle out for you and Nicholas.

That's weird. I've been monitoring this game for a decade and in that time, the game has barely moved at all.
I remember being alone in the house, headphones on, A/C blasted and playing Wintermute mode, skin chilling and on the edge of my seat and maaaaaan I was so immersed that I forgot it was summer outside.
@Kusher420it’s simply not what TLD’s players are after, there is already a bunch of coop/craft survival game out there waiting for us.
TLD has a very unique profile that obviously didn’t reach you, maybe you should give it more time or retry when the time is right😉

I really think TheLongDark has the best community of any game I've seen, it's because its developers love their game and their players, rewarding us with great updates. Thanks Hinterland, I can't wait to play the first DLC.

Six-part expansion released at 8-10 week cadence.
Part One:
Free:
1. Complete overhaul of ALL loot spawns and loot tables in the base game
2. New spawn points for survival (NOT on top of the antenna in Mystery Lake)
3. Car visor notes
4. Does - Female deer (They have less meat)
5. Craftable improvised crampons - Better than nothing.
Paid DLC:
1. Forsaken Airfield region
2. Glimmer fog
3. Insomnia affliction
4. Tool variants - 5 so far, more coming
5. New soundtrack - 15-20 minutes of new original soundtrack
6. Tales - Narrative challenges based on the history of the Far Territory (NOT SURE IF THIS IS ACTUALLY INCLUDED YET)

I remember playing this in 2015 on the box and being blown away by it, and have ended up being pretty consistently blown away by how far the game has come since. You all at Hinterland have created a beautiful little masterpiece of a game.

been playing long dark irl recently, sitting in completely dark scary room because of russian rocket attacks on powerplants. kinda used to a day without a single word heard or said. this game means a lot for me

I’ve been detoxing from this game since I died a few weeks ago and I don’t want to start a new run as I know it’s coming to console soon. I’m so excited😊
You guys make games like no other, I have entire playlist made just to get in the mood to play your games. Cooling in the summer and cozy in the winter, nothing quite like it. I get so hyped everytime I launch the game after a while and see a new update, lost my Xbox recently and rebought the game on my switch.
Bought the expansion and did an update to get "failed to load il2cpp" on launching the game. Did a full uninstall and reinstall to only get the same message 😥

A lot of these new changes/updates sound great but I think I'm most excited about the updated loot tables, I hope those tables continue to be updated/changed in the future too as once you've played survival enough times you start to familiarise yourself with what loot to expect where and removes a chunk of the immersion IMO.

You expect me to pay YOU more money after I JUST gave you money a decade ago? And after carefully crafting and updating the game to this point for nothing in return? Horrible strategy to build a lifelong fan base, have you considered doing NFT's? You can add vending machines that produce a can of summit soda with a unique art on the can and all users have to do is link their wallets up and BAM for $13.99 a can we can survive a single night with a collectable that's lost to the ether when you die.
There is nothing flawed about this strategy, I look forward to future correspondence.

I've been playing since it was available alpha or beta. It's still the game I go to for survival experiences. It's one of the most fantastic games I've ever played and I can't wait to play this new expansion and see the new updates to survival.
I've just come back to this game after a couple years away and it's at the perfect time! Really looking forward to delving into this. . The price is also a steal for what appears to be a phenomenal DLC!
I haven't played this in a few years, but I had so much fun with it. As soon as I got the Steam notification that Far Territory was available, I snatched it up. Time to jump back in and see all the changes.
My first thought when I saw the new rifle being teased earlier was "that's a sporting rifle, not a military rifle. It's probably less durable but lighter weight". Forkin spot on.

@@hinterlandstudio I’ve been waiting since version 365 when you add something really interesting that will make you stay in the game for a long time. I want to have the opportunity to craft a crossbow after level 5 archery and so that parts for it can be found one at each location, so that there is interest I want to go there, and not all rifles are the same. I want a new kind of fish in new territories, bats in some caves, making more powerful arrows for a crossbow from owl feathers. And you add almost identical guns.
Always looking forward to an update to one of my favorite games. Thank you guys and gals for all the amazing hard work. As for the new spawns..... actually spawning on top of the antenna tower would be absolutely hilarious.
This is one of my favorite games of all times and I would love to buy expansions for it! With one caveat... as long as the expansions include a total of zero timberwolves. Timberwolves are a garbage mechanic. I have way more than a thousand hours in this game and I still refuse to play maps with them.
I'm actually so excited for this, my winter break is going to be fun exploring the new territory

You guys and your labor of love, "The Long Dark," were a bright spot in some oftentimes dark patches of Steam's Early Access wilderness. I am glad to purchase this expansion.

I've been a supporter of TLD since I got my very first Xbox One back in 2015 when it was on game preview. And my goodness this has came so far along! Great job!
With that said, I'm looking for more immersion to the game going into the expansion pass updates. More voices for characters, customizable character demographics, more animations for first person (turning up a bottle of water to drink or picking up the food to eat), the ability to cook TV dinners over fire, a compass, binoculars, hot meat being cooked adds warmth bonus, different weapons (maybe a crossbow, slingshot for rocks, the ability to wield a hatchet or throwing knife, etc.
I don't mean to be overly critical of what the game DOESNT have. I'm just happy that they listen to the community. If it's come this far maybe I can get a few things in my wishlist above! Who knows

I'm so happy about this! The long dark really is a labor of love
What I loved most about TLD was the initial challenge about being dropped somewhere unfamiliar and then struggling to find shelter, clothing and food before freezing up. Unfortunately, I also want a sense of accomplishment and restarting survival modes with no closure doesnt give that. So apart from exploring all 13 maps over the cours of 100 hours, what I wanted the game is to provide us with short challenge modes. The official challenges are quite difficult and not really fun like escaping an invisible monster or finding grave markers with no healthbar refill. I prefer simple challenges like: hunt 10 deer or 5 wolves or 1 bear or bring item X to location Y and have some sense of randomness to it, like being able to do it after spawning on any map. Hopefully your new tales mode adds such mini quests with a good ending.
It’s been over 8 weeks since the update. Is there a release date for the second release and more importantly the console release?

Howewer, i spend over hundred hours of excellent GamePlay! My record are over 15 days but i know i can still live longer. I am so glad this game getting still nice repairs and updates. And this game helped my, in survival irl.

This game is fantastic and you guys have proven to be one of the only good gamer developers left. I felt bad knowing this and playing for free on game pass so i purchased the full game just to support you guys. You earned it for sure.

While this is a nice thing to break up the long hiatus that seems to plague the update schedule, I can't help but be a little irked that you will not put a firmer date on when episode 5 will drop. Yay it may or may not be next year, but if you have this out, then I would think you have a much firmer idea of how close the next episode is to being complete. But hey, I bought the season pass, like a bunch of other people did, so you're less likely to fold before the end of the episodes that the initial backers paid for and expect.
I can't wait to explore this new content later today, thank you to the team at Hinterland for giving us such a beautiful game!

Looks like a lot of us are having the same error.
Someone in another comment said there's a solution in the Steam comment area. Something about a file in the wrong place.
