Couldn't agree more it at least understands the heart of the game and takes a human look at the managers lot while also adding in some cracking football jokes. The airport scene is tremendous taking 5 minutes to sum up the conflict of the home nations and even using Alan green voice of football on the radio when getting the Luxembourg score. Also the Kipling if scene is genuinely brilliantly acted and inspiring
One of the most underrated comedy films ever . There are so many great football jokes threaded into this story . A true master piece . Great acting great directing superb script . So underrated
Mike Bassett should be managing a charity England side akin to these soccer aid games. If someone in production had the sense to make it happen… would be comedy gold
Brilliant film. Love Tonka 🤣 "Aww Boss 😢don't drop us Boss! 😢" 🤣 "Give me that lads legs and somebody else's brain and you've got a winner!" So true of many athletes really.
That Keegan quote at the beginning was something I heard him say on the TV and then posted off to Private Eye's Coleman Balls. I feel like I've contributed to this film.
Had this on video VHS 📼 back in the day, I think I've still got it somewhere. Ricky Tomlinson at his best. (snatches phone off Harper who's wife is always ringing him) *"Will you FOOOHHHK OFF!"* 🤣
What a great film. Today was the first time seeing it, immediately playing it again. You'll be a mason😂 My dad was a like father figure 😂etc etc. Thank you for uploading. The comments suggest a lot of people feel the same.
Such an underrated film. You can see the parallels to 90's and noughties football. When Bassett sends Bradley Walsh (his coach) to get some kids football off them because they've forgotten the teams balls and he comes back without it and when asked where the ball is he said "I couldnt get it off them, they're too good..." funny as... My grown up kids and I quote it at each other all the time when watching England.
He made it further in the world cup than Sven, Steve McLaren, Fabio Capello, Roy Hodgson. He should be the next England manager. 1:13:18: Its still 0-0 and Tonkinson has got the ball. The chase is on!
" What you doing to help me lad apart from locking the balls in the back of the bloody opel " A fucking criminally underrated movie. An absolute classic
I thought Walsh was supposed to be Graham Taylor’s assistant Phil Neal. Who just repeated everything he said? It is on the “Do I not like that?” Documentary.
I love this film, but it feels nostalgic now. It's a story from an era that has passed. A period from 1974 to around 2010, where England fans would be nervous in every game, and if we did get to the last 16 and beyond, there was a creeping sense of "There's a possibility we could actually win this!" Since 2010 it feels like it has been replaced by a sense of "It will be a disgrace if we don't win this." At the same time, nothing has really changed in the relative quality of the football played.
Thanks for posting. The best football film in my opinion and quite underrated.

One of the funniest films ever ..makes me laugh out loud every time !
The Spinal Tap of football. Brilliant in every way.
Four Four Freakin Two....
It's a documentary lol.
It's nothing like Spinal Tap. Spinal Tap is a mockumentary, and is incredibly dry. This is nothing like that.
Yeah, though on some ways the Graham Taylor documentary is funnier for actually being real.
The unofficial documentary 😉 😊
Legend thanks for uploading...
No problem, one of my favorite films
The English, Irish and Scottish fighting in airport always gets me 🤣
"hey! I'm a Fenian!"
Here comes the England b team ....funny
Most accurate representation of UK history 😂
Shut your mouth you proddy bolox!
Comic genius and all of the romance of being an England fan distilled into 90 minutes of entertainment. Mandatory education for the youths.
Perfect comment.
the best documentary of English football ever made
Mike Bassett England manager was one of the funniest films I ever saw in the cinema. It's a work utter brilliance about the inner workings of the fa

Comedy gold this film. It should get more airtime
Haven't seen this film in years, watching it back now, it could pass as a real documentary from what I remember of the 90's...
Yep 😂
No it couldn't
I actually thought this when first watched it mind u i was 14 as watched it 3 years ago
@@soilcredibility My friend, if you can remember the 90s... You weren't really there :-)

Impossible. Harry dodgy wheeler dealer Redknapp who has managed an England side for charity is already a parody of himself.

31:30 - 32:00 unless you work in retail or you're a smoker , you won't realize this scene is pure genius 😂😂😂
The problem with this movie is that it is so well made, you don't where the reality ends and the comedy begins.
Its pure goofy spoof from start till finish.
The characters are fictional like Mike himself. He’s the detective from Cracker after all.

Silly comment 🙄

Utter legend for posting
That is one hell of a feel good film....
Woooow me and my brother still quote this movie from back when! Probly "4 4 fookin' 2" times by now 😂😂😂😂😂

You can see lots of the C4 Graham Taylor Dispatches documentary. Brad Walsh is basically Phil Neale.

Priceless!!, what a movie!!
Benson and hedges brilliant footballers end of story.
Absolutely fantastic 👏 😂

"Ah, there's one here from Ron Greenwood! How about droppin' Mick Channon?"
Always good viewing before a tournament
The moment he recited "If" is just amazing. A genuine poignant moment in an otherwise completely comedic film.
I know this is a film about football but can we just appreciate the attention to detail about the cars in this film
I remember this and the TV series that came after.

Why does this feel like a Southgate movie..
