I don’t want to leave and yall know I’ve pushed SBC supremacy and so have most Bobcats but we have always been on an island over here in the west in the SBC with no good rivalries etc. and high travel costs. If unt and utsa and rice came to the SBC I would prefer the SBC. But attendance blows up with regional rivalries Texas state puts 50k in the Alamodome when they play with utsa and sales out at home when they play here. We need regional rivalries.
All 4 of them really belong in the Pac and fit the Pac 12 Culture more. Sam Houston State absolutely fit the Sun Belt Culture along with when they eventually move up SFA.
Why would UTSA & UNT leave AAC with average annual distribution $8-10 million to go to a conference with average annual distribution < $1-2 million. For reference, both UTSA & UNT just left the CUSA where distribution is ~ $1 million.
@@TheJayquarters It depends on how the dominos fall in realignment. If AAC loses Memphis and Tulane to PAC, if ACC takes USF… and so forth, then the AAC Texas schools may be a good fit in the SBC with a higher per year distribution than a stripped AAC. That’s what happened to CUSA.
The thing with adding more schools is once we get past 16 teams, and if we do go over that, the divisions dissolve. At 16 teams everyone plays 8 conference games, with a pairing of “protected rivalries”, then play the remaining 13 teams once every three to four years. So the yearly rivalries go away for in-division games.
I saw that ECU had a hissy fit in the past when Houston, UCF, And Cincinnati along with SMU left the American and if they lose Memphis and Tulane ECU might bail out of the American to join the Sunbelt
Being realistic I would say the other teams to consider would be in no particular order LA Tech, Sam Houston State, MTSU, Western Kentucky, and FIU. If Texas State stays which I hope they do see about Sam Houston State so they have a travel partner and someone else to make 16. Maybe Liberty for another eastern team.
I would LOVE if my team got into the Sun Belt. I know we aren’t well liked but a regional schedule with real rivalries would be much better than playing NMSU at midnight.
Texas State has played football for 105yrs Dave, I'm positive many many many of those years we've had great teams. History isn't the last two decades. That being said I hope we stay in the Sun Belt.
Art…appreciate the comment & info. Out of curiosity, have they been “pretty darn good at football” for more than the last 13 months? Having said that, I hope they stay in the Sun Belt as well. 😉
I like your idea of separating football from the other sports. Travel cost would be so much better that way. Not a "buy low sell high" situation. Rather its more of being at the right place at the right time. Although with TXST's new president, the success has a certain sense of permanence. LaTech, is an obvious addition. They would improve ticket sales for all western SBC teams. Sam Houston State would be another great addition. The bearkats have a lot of work to do as far as facilities, but otherwise would be a slam dunk addition in the coming years.
They always go for city size or school size first possible big marketing and not by history or records. USM is a prime example. They owned CUSA up until the first Cusa exit. Had winning records against Houston, Memphis, UCF, ECU,SMU, USF and Tulane. It wasnt even close if you went by record and history yet they all moved on because of location, school size or city size and not because of success on the field. Its all about that money or possible money making and not history. Which is Sad cause it has killed some really good football programs. Nothing against Texas St just saying they not looking for success as much as they are money lol
I don't think they do. Harrisonburg, Huntington, and Hattiesburg are relatively small college towns with passionate fan bases. Much better than having FAU or FIU just for the TV markets and population.
If you have too many regional entries you run into the problem the Southwest Conference had. The conference was too Texas focused and didn't do well in national broadcasts.
Sun Belt isn't made for national broadcasts unless they are facing a P4 team. App State vs South Alabama is a big Sun Belt game. No one else probably cares.
Texas state is a West Sunbelt team we need a team in the west to replace them if they leave like UAB or Jax State. UAB probably wouldn't leave the American but Jax State might be willing to leave conference USA for the Sunbelt.
Two years ago Texas State wouldn't have been a consideration at all. A good 2023 and a great start to 2024 and suddenly Texas State is a player for a conference that will be another G5 conference? The new Pac-12 will not be a power conference.
@@wjsIII they gotta win one right? Proud of yall for turning that O-5 to 1-5 but it is what it is. A clean doormat will still get stepped on because that's what it's meant for 🤷🏽♂️

SBC should try for UTSA and Noth Texas. Adds more Texas recruiting and helps Ark St, TXST and Louisiana schools for travel

They might. Thanks for watching & commenting.
We'd love to have them....a pocket with utsa, Texas state, Tulane, and Memphis would be amazing imo

I'd like to see Texas State stay but if they leave I'd love to see ECU or another east coast team.

Liberty would be a MAJOR win. A great program with a great fanbase, as well as close proximity to App, JMU, ODU, and Marshall

Hard pass on Liberty. Yuck

More like 120 years Arty (1904)
How many years have they played Division One football? Since 2013. The school has barely been known as Texas State for a couple decades.
@@MrGHawaiiwhat’s your point? They were playing football for 55 years before Hawaii was even a state.

Not my idea - think it came from Chip Kelly - but I think he's right. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've been advocating football only conferences for years. It makes a lot of sense, especially for G5 schools.
ECU or WKU (East) and La Tech or UAB (West) are the schools that make the most sense.
I hope Texas State goes to the PAC-12 along with Memphis, Tulane, Rice.
I wouldn't be mad if Texas State left the SBC, since they're kinda far away from everyone else.
I understand, but there are plenty of teams that aren't very close to each other. Trying to get from Boone, NC to Monroe, LA is a bit of a process.

Those would be good additions.
I am a fan of Texas State but the idea that the Pac-12 would offer them a invite to join the conference is ridiculous.
The Big 12 is a much better fit for TX St.
No
If you have too many regional entries you run into the problem the Southwest Conference had. The conference was too Texas focused and didn't do well in national broadcasts.
But regional rivals are the best rivals, advertising dollars be damned. Who wants to watch commercials anyways?
Sun Belt isn't made for national broadcasts unless they are facing a P4 team. App State vs South Alabama is a big Sun Belt game. No one else probably cares.
Pac 12 just added Utah State.
Do yall have the financial means to hang with the teams that'll be in the Pac?
In terms of what? Texas State's endowment ranks in the middle of the current/proposed PAC.
Texas state is a West Sunbelt team we need a team in the west to replace them if they leave like UAB or Jax State. UAB probably wouldn't leave the American but Jax State might be willing to leave conference USA for the Sunbelt.
That's not a bad idea.
It would be interesting to see Troy and Jax State revive their old Gulf South Conference rivalry.
Add some one from Tennessee and Texas. If Texas state leaves then add a Kentucky team to fill that lose and then add a NC and Tennessee tea.
By the way FAU is in Bianca Raton.
I'm familiar.
This would be great!
Not being snide. Just an honest question. I dont know
Charlotte would be good
Would they? Or just because of TV market? Thanks for watching and commenting.
Need a Florida shool!
Do they?
Southwest Texas changing their name to "Texas State" is them jumping on the coat-tails of their much more successful step brother just 30 miles north.
Man, you a disgruntled UTSA fan or something? The Texas State University System has nothing to do with the University of Texas. Whatsoever.
That's the dumbest comment ever. You obviously know nothing about the history of Texas State and UT.
That is the most uneducated comment ever

They're good now and that's all that matters. Lot's of upside for them too--location, size, etc.
Pac2 will still be a group of 5 conference .
UTEP is more likely
