Even Richter and Horowitz might consider giving up on this piece after hearing this.

Thank youADGO, for sharing the GENIUS of Mikhail Pletnev playing this outstanding painting by Mussorgsky. Maestro Pletnev paints various pictures with artistic genius on the keyboard

I heard him play this in the Wigmore Hall in 1989, he just walked on and started playing the moment he sat down (or maybe even as he was sitting down). It was a phenomenal performance, but hearing this is great because his reading has matured and become more intimate in the detail. And unlike some of his performances (even the good ones!) you really could give this to someone as a reference performance of this work.

Was it Schumann's Carnival? I saw him exactly like that, he just started the chords (Ta-Da--!!) and then he was relaxing his arms!! :)))

Agreed. As a reference, this exquisite performance ranks with the best of the multitude that I've heard over the years.

One of the very best performances of this piece that I've heard in many years of listening. Superb. Thanks much.

Absolutely loved how he played the Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks. What a treasure is Pletnev.

His interpretation here is very different from another of his live ones. It takes an incredible command of the instrument to be able to perform this so powerfully in multiple ways.

NOBODY - no Horowitz, no Richter, no Buniatishvili, no Avdeeva,...plays this right. It seems only Pletnev has understood the essence of this piece. Bravo!!!

Thank you so much for uploading ,ADGO. 普列特涅夫是名符其实的天才,独一无二。深思熟虑的演奏,无与伦比的音色,他是在制作音乐。而其他大多数钢琴家都是在背课文,砸钢琴。
