    It’s so great seeing that you guys are still around! The fact that the companies origins are from the 1800s and that it’s still the same company from those days is quite amazing! That doesn’t happen very often, does it? Cunard built some of the greatest ships in the world and seems like you guys still are! So, bravo Cunard, bravo!

    So pleased to see/hear that Inger will be captaining this newest addition to the Cunard fleet - she was the captain on the Queen Victoria when we sailed on our first ever cruise, to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary in 2013... and we've been going back ever since, sadly not with Inger but with the Queen Victoria every time. Really looking forward to sailing again in June.

    I am so impressed by seeing a woman as captain, she's absolutely a gem from people say and I hope I could experience being on with her as captain. I will admit that as much as I love the looking forward toward the future, I do wish you guys would rebuild iconic ships like the Mauretania or Lusitania and the gorgeous Acquitania, even rebuilding the Queen Elizabeth and the art deco iterations of the newer Mauretania. I would love for your brand to resurrect the golden age by offering historically influenced experiences. I think a lot of people would be keen to see the legacy of the Cunard-White Star Line. There is an impressive history and legacy, and visually recreating, but technically updating can permit an interaction with a legacy so few companies have these days.

    From the spaces shown thus far, I'm getting a Mid-Century minimalist vibe - not a fan of either. While I understand the need to look beyond the 1930's, Carnival already has ships of the Holland-America Line with a similar aesthetic. Cunard has a very specific feel and I can't stop but thinking someone is trying to fix something that's NOT broken! If the design language must be Mid-Century, please reconsider the sterile minimalism and incorporate plenty of stunning colorful, whimsical artwork throughout the ship. My guess is that the ship's first refit will be a both extensive and expensive reappointment and redecoration. After watching this video, if I were Mickey Arison, I'd praise the appointment of the ship's first Master then I'd recall all of the design teams to rethink their plans.

    • @thecreativecontessa

      My feeling exactly. The whole thing seems more like a modern conference center rather than a luxurious, glamorous cruise ship.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 8 місяців тому

      @@thecreativecontessa The Golden Lion Pub doesn't, that looks ok. The Queens Room, well, that's problematic. Its that trendy beige/gray base that is in so many new ship designs that's dominating the design. There seems to be some Cunard deep blue in some areas, but is it enough? Probably not. It's not as bad as the NCL Prima or Celebrity edge, but it's not warm, cozy, inviting, romantic, characterful, words that should come to mind for a Cunard ship.

    March 9, 2022
    Dear: Cunard
    With great anticipation I was looking forward to your unveiling of the Queen Anne. Overall, the new interior looked good, I loved the renderings of the Golden Lion Pub. The renderings of the Queen’s Room were only ok but I can live with that. The renderings of the Queen’s Grill accommodations look fantastic and a step up from what I am accustomed to on the Queen Mary 2. The only major problem I see is the Grand Atrium. From my past 13 voyages on the QM2 and with 3 additional voyages booked the atrium is the main meeting spot on the ship and is used for a variety of activities and people watching. The atrium is meant to be a grand space, your renderings have a metal wall that is supposed to change during the day and night. The main problem is that is taking up (from my estimate) about 20% of the atrium usable space for ship wide gatherings and blocks the view from the shops. You showed no renderings for the Royal Court Theater so I can’t make a judgement, but form your treatment of the Queen’s Room and the Grand Atrium I hold out no great hope.
    Saying this I am glad that Cunard is getting another ship, but you can modernize the brand without throwing away the past. From your UA-cam video’s you claim to be honoring Cunard’s history but it doesn’t look that way to me.
    I am sad to say that with the new interior treatment Queen Anne is getting I will not be sailing on her. I will stay with my beloved Queen Mary 2 and also the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria.

    • @thecreativecontessa
      @thecreativecontessa 2 роки тому +1

      I will be writing a similar letter to Cunard in the hopes that they will reconsider their current interior design plans, which remind me of an austere conference center rather than a glamorous ship worthy of the Cunard experience...

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 8 місяців тому

      Keep this type of feedback to Cunard. I'm disheartened by the new ships in their me-too approach to design and limited color palette. But so many customers see new and modern and go "beautiful" and there are more of them than discerning passengers that care about a brand's identity and character. Cunard fans seem more vocal about the ship's interior than others. I'm a Celebrity fan and I'm pretty disgusted with the Edge ships. I'm also a HAL fan and I'm OK with the Pinnacle ships, in fact I like them. I don't love what I see coming from Princess with the Sphere class. The Silversea Super Nova has the same issue. Modernization seems some sort of limited color palette and furnishing style that's almost interchangeable from brand to brand. The cruise lines need to be sent feedback that they need to differentiate the products that are true to the brands and not some standardized "new ship" look. Problem is, the travel agents hawking the brands and doing ship tours go on about how beautiful the new ships are and aren't critical of some character lacking in them or how they're now having more up-charge areas at the expense of varied social areas like lounges and uncluttered deck spaces.

    We want to feel the past of Cunard, not to look into the future.
    We can go on Wonder of the Sea if we want to feel the future of cruising. Wonder of the Seas is decidedly a "hotel, full of people, that moves". Some people may get sick or frightened by being in a hotel rocking bow to stern in the middle of the Atlantic.
    Cunard is an elegant experience at sea in which we are passengers on an exciting voyage, not guests at Claridge's.
    We love being on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and will be on the Queen Elizabeth on a voyage to Alaska.
    Here's to Samuel Cunard!

Visiting hours are posted in the morning and afternoon, however they may have changed. Oliver, the Kennel Master is a dear man that loves all the pets and tucks them in at night in their own blanket. At the end of the voyage the pets get a certificate and beautiful jackets with QM2 embroidered on them....pets are not allowed in your cabin and I do not know what the current charge is for kennel space....our last trip was to complete a book about a Golden Retriever going to Scotland on QM2 from NY to Southampton on a transatlantic crossing...it is not yet published or I would send you a copy. next ship needs to be the Olympic II. it was a ship for Cunard from 1934-1935 after Cunard's merge with the Cunard White Star Line. Plus, the Olympic had 24 years service, way more than its sisters Britannic with 11 months and Titanic's 4 days. i think it needs to be honored with a sefond one or even a rebuild of the original!

    Cunard, please build an Olympic 2 someday in the future! Even if you try to stay as true as possible to the Titanic/Olympic style, while still integrating modern technology and safety regulations. All I’ll say is if the exterior looks quite similar, then people will flock to it.

  • @Smokeyham
    @Smokeyham 2 роки тому +10

    Like many others have said here I get the sense of a new Holland America Line's ship being created. The modernistic atrium does not seem to reflect Cunard, despite what is said in the video. The many restaurant additions also are similar to what other ships and lines are doing. The choice of restaurants is in response to what passengers have told the cruise lines they want.
    Cunard had an opportunity to stand out from the other lines with richer, deeper colors and a more traditional look but decided not to.
    What will be interesting to watch will be if this ship continues the traditions of a more formal dress code, which is not popular with many cruising passengers, while providing a more modern look, which is not particularly popular with many current Cunard passengers.

      HAL has richer deeper colors than others in the Pinnacle class. They only went with the beige thing with the staterooms and not overly so. NCL, Silversea Super Nova, Celebrity Edge class do the beige/gray muted color thing but not HAL so. much. Not yet anyway.
      The problem is some think those lighter, brighter colors feel more modern and airy and that's the design trend now. Designers do tend to go with trends.

I’d use the Britannia Club restaurant on Queen Victoria as your inspiration for a much richer, more grand space that Cunard passengers expect. The current image looks like it’s screaming “Standard Class”. Just my opinion of course!

      Solstice class and it doesn't look like that. Solstice ships are not the modern beige/gray boring cold stuff and have lots of dark wood in them. They're modern-retro and are influenced by mid-century modernism or art deco or some 60s modern design as well as 30s/40s design. In fact, this looks more RCI like than Celebrity with all the gold. The Solstice dining room is more retro-modern 60s inspired. Celebrity had some magnificent dining rooms in some of their ships like the Century, the original dining rooms on the Millennium class (not the boring beige and blue they've done in the "revolutionized" versions), the Century, the Mercury, all of these were really nice. Not Cunard style, but still retro-modern and well designed. HAL now has a kind of white/light dining room as well in the Pinnacle class and that looks more like the Celebrity Solstice class. Not bad but not quite HAL style though most of the ship is (HAL style).

    Wonderful choice of captain, but the interior design suggestions for the vessel are thoroughly disheartening - rather than capturing the warm, glamorous luxury for which Cunard's queens are famous, it looks like a cold paean to minimalistic contemporary art and architecture, filled with shades of white and metal, like the ships of so many other mediocre cruiselines that I would never sail even if paid to do so. If these designs go ahead, I will avoid cruising on Queen Anne at all costs. I hope you reconsider the finishes and actually incorporate the elements that make the brand special - wood panelling, evocative art nouveau and art deco designs, colors and textures. If I want to visit a contemporary art museum, I will do that. I do not want to spend a cruise voyage on one. And this is coming from a young person who plans to voyage with Cunard for many decades to come.

    Cunard are certainly way ahead of those hideous cruise monsters, however while it’s good to see a lack of kitsch I feel the designs of the public areas while stylish have a somewhat cold look. If real wood is not allowed because of fire regulations there are good alternatives that look like the real thing and add warmth akin to the incomparable interiors of the original Queens. Having said that I would certainly choose Cunard over any other of the large ships currently around.

    For the life of me, I cannot understand the excitement of one more massive ship of 3,000 passengers and crew of 1,500, no matter what the technology and fanciness. Small ships with maximum capacity of 600-900 are my way to travel by sea. More privacy, more personal attention without all the pretense, all-balcony and larger rooms, freedom to dine and go anywhere at anytime. I realize some folks love the bigness, the glitz of casinos and non-stop entertainment. I hope this ship pleases them.

    Too many people complaining…as a Cunard fan in my 20s, I love the new modern minimalist design. I know the common elderly passenger prefers the old style ugly decor, they have the other Queens for that…I hope Queen Anne is more inviting towards younger crowds for a change 😊

    • @benjaminsmith2287

      The new design isn't minimalist and the "old style" of decor is not necessarily ugly. Just like the new style isn't necessarily ugly. And what is a younger crowd anyway? Why can't people say 20s, 30s, 40s, or 30-45 or whatever they mean rather than use relative terms? Someone 50 is younger than 60 but are they young? Isn't part of the Cunard lure being that it represents a romance and standard of a different era?

      @@iNickRivas You're going to be part of a "nursing home" crowd one day as well if you stay alive. Time goes quickly. As long as people are alive it's good to have social areas shared with people of a similar generation if not to talk about what you've experience and certain times you've lived through that you share.
      Why should HAL or Princess or Cunard cater to the, in your classification, 44 and younger crowd? There are still a lot of vibrant people 45+ that have money and time to spend on cruise ships and if some want the music, service and qualities Cunard offers, then a ship for these tastes will have repeat customers. I think it's more about tastes than age anyway. And the ship gets sleepy after 11 pm, not 8 pm.

    Cunard, please. Please please please build a Titanic replica. Whether you realize it or not, at least half of your passengers are choosing you because of the legacy of that ship. Think of the weddings that could be held on the Grand Staircase. Think of the Cunard photographer taking couples' photos on the bow at sunset. Think of the engine room tours which would be physically arousing to steam enthusiasts. Think of the side business of tailoring fine Edwardian formal attire for passengers in anticipation of their voyage. Think of the headlines across EVERY news station and social media page across the world:
    "TITANIC ARRIVES IN NEW YORK"
    And yes, there will have to be changes from the original. All staterooms, while looking authentic, must have private baths which wasn't the case in 1912 (even in first class, if you can dig it). Obviously safety would be taken very seriously, with modern steel and construction, taller watertight bulkheads, modern full-capacity lifeboats, radar, etc etc. The boilers couldn't be coal-fired, but running on biofuel oil would be very easy.
    I think this concept is in the money. Every bride-to-be and little boy on Earth will want tickets. Even if it only appeals to 1% of the cruise market, that's Cunard's entire market share already. Come on guys. Make each day count.
