Besides the poetic and fascinating videography with the perfect build up of music, this was the kind of comeback you should always be proud of! You always have your reasons for the choices you make for family and loved ones but I’m damn sure that these videos will be the ones your kiddos show their kids someday when they teach them about passion and finding what makes you happy. You’ve always, ALWAYS trudged through whatever you needed to get to where you want to be and this is no different. Beyond excited to see you back behind the wheel and the lens. You do what others cannot and bring experiences to us and we live through your videos. Very well done sir! What you do is seen by so many and appreciated! I can’t imagine what your kiddo’s face looked like when he saw this!!!
Thank you for that feedback I really appreciate it. Yes and I agree. It has taken a while to reflect and heal, but I’m so glad I was able to get out there again.
What a lovely comment! I especially appreciate the part about encouraging one's kids to find their passion. This is an important value to impart, and I came close to messing up here. I was vexed when my son, seemingly last minute, informed me that he wanted to switch his intended college major from a STEM field to Communications/Journalism. He'd gotten accepted at his top choice university, it wasn't going to be cheap, and I also know my son and the lifestyle he wanted to lead. 😉 It led to one of the biggest disagreements we'd ever had. I was so disappointed in him, (I'm ashamed to say this now), and I said something to the effect of, I hope you like ramen noodles and crappy apartments because that will probably be your life. (Cringe!!) Venting to a wise friend helped turn my attitude around. He said, "Your son should do what he loves, and the dollars will follow." Surely enough, my kid has turned out to be amongst the best in the biz, to the point now where he's working a dream job in the city in which he'd always wanted to live. Looking back, it's difficult for me to remember having such a transactional attitude towards his career and his *life*. My younger child has never cared about material things, she is following her passion also, and I know she'll take it as far as she wants to. Life is about so much more than "the grind", and I wish more people were positioned or had the priveledge to do something they really want to do with their lives, rather than taking a safe bet that'll allow them a roof over their head and the other necessities. Storm chasing would have been my very own dream job, had I ever heard of it as a youngster. I'm old enough to recall with clarity the 1974 Super Outbreak, and I don't recall hearing about storm chasers way back then, although surely there were people out there doing it, even on an informal or amateur basis. (Can anyone even imsgine being out there chasing with 1974 technology, when that monster hit Xenia, Ohio? Yikes on bikes!!) Anyway, I really enjoyed this beautifully constructed, produced, and edited video. You have a new fan. The part at the end, about the chaser right behind you who didn't make it, was a sobering reminder of the dangers chasers face. Even the best and most experienced can fall victim to one small glitch, zig zag, or minor miscalculation. Please stay safe, and enjoy many more years of getting these storms on video. It seems we learn something new or more from every tornado. I believe that within many of our lifetimes, the meteorological folk will have identified the "it factor", (or, more likely, a series of variables), that cause some storms to drop and others not to. Look how exponentially the science (and technology!!) jumped between the 1974 and 2011 Outbreaks, just as an example. The more you know... 😉
@@La_Ru-yg8es thank you so much for that well thought out comment. I actually am fimiliar with the super outbreak although I wasn’t even alive then. Good video, Ryan. That was certainly an interesting day. I staged along IA-25 that day after waking in Ankeny. Knowing storm motions would be impressive, I headed up during the day of the 20th to ensure I was well-rested. After deciding to not venture west and let storms mature as they came to me, I first caught a muddled, distant view of mine about 5.5 miles south of Orient. Given the bizarre storm mode that unfolded as the system progressed, that would be the clearest view I’d have that day, but not the only one. As the cell took on an upscale symmetry, I moved back north to intercept. About 3 miles north of Orient, after IA-25 turned back to due north, inflow was quite impressive. For some unknown reason, my gut told me to stop for 39 seconds (timed from my video). Luckily, I did as it saved me from what would have been a likely unpleasant outcome. At 1.6 miles from Greenfield proper, driving north at 52mph, I caught a view of the tornado at Greenfield. I continued into town afterward, not stopping to view the tornado. As I got into Greenfield, debris was still falling out of the air. I was the first in on the south side. I’ll not go into detail here, but what I handled that day changed me forever. After 35 years doing this and more than a few scene responses, this one hit different. Figured I’d share a little of my take. Great job again. -Corey
