You know for some reason the scene of the dreadnought appearing seemed so damn familiar and it finally dawned on me, it was from Star Trek Into Darkness when the USS Vegeance shows up. Comes out out of warp, alarm blaring, close up of the ship to show off its size relative size to the other ships and advanced weaponry.
I know this is going to be controversial, but honestly, I liked the Dreadnought. You may call it ugly, but I like Its' harsh, industrial and unfinished feel. I thought it would be the main "antagonist ship" in this episode, but nope it got destroyed by Poe and some bombers. In fact, 2 big ships got destroyed in ONE MOVIE. If only the First Order wasn't so dumb in presence of plot armor... But yeah, I liked it
The ship was great! But it seems the Dreadnought is a subtile version of star wars itself. It’s all cool, powerful and mighty….until a Kennedy takes command….
Quickly do we target the stationary base that can't move anywhere or the ship they're evacuating to with all their weapons, fighters and personnel that could leave at any moment....

I’ll never understand why the didn’t just shoot the enemy “fleet” they had 3 star destroyers and a dreadnought yet decided to shoot an empty base and not push 1 ship with half a crew and several small ships that can probably tickle the Star destroyers and that’s not even talking about sending an armada of tie fighters to destroy the rebels....
Maybe it was for sadistic reasons? Hux never struck me as a brilliant tactician like Admiral Thrawn, Admiral Piett, or even General Veers. Perhaps he wanted to instill fear into the resistance fleet by making them watch, same as Palpatine did with Luke during the battle of Endor?
I think I have a guess why it was “base, transports, fleet” in that order. Hux never struck me as a brilliant tactician like Thrawn, Piett, or even Veers. To me Hux seems like a sadistic officer who wants to make the leaders of the Resistance suffer before he kills them. I’d like to think he’s doing this because this does take place shortly after the Resistance destroy Starkiller base. In fact I’ll try to use logic and reasoning: • Destroy the base: cause the Resistance to scramble to their fighters and transports, leaving everything behind. Supplies, munitions, and weapons are now destroyed. No engagement from the enemy. • Destroy the transports: every transport destroyed means less Resistance fighters to battle later. Transports are unarmed, so no engagement from them. • Destroy the fleet: it doesn’t matter where the fleet runs off to because the First Order could track them through hyperspace. There will be an engagement but destroying the base and transports will have weakened their fighting capabilities.
@@ryansaintz2575 you’re right, he was poorly written and I hate how he went from a terrifying character to a punching bag. That being said, this was not one an example of that. At the very least his order makes sense if you stop and analyze it.

If the dreadnought hits the Raddus first he not only takes out their major means of escape but also the majority of resistance leadership (who was on board at the time and he would likely know that, Raddus being a capitol ship and all) creating confusion and disorder among resistance ranks. After which he aims for the transports and support ships with tie fighters (and maybe the dreadnoughts guns) annihilating the fleet and preventing further escape, if that's even possible with their low fuel amount, some transports may even run back to the planet for safety. You can literally leave the base for last since it's not like it's going anywhere.

The fact the Final Order retrofitted only Star Destroyers with planet-killing lasers makes me believe they blew up the only Dreadnought in the entire galaxy lmao
Does make you wonder how big the destroyers are if you can see them in orbit. For reference the resurgent class is listed at about 3km long, the largest man made object in space is the ISS at a bit over 100m long and that looks like a star when you see it.
Officer: Sir, the star destroyers are prepared for engaging the resistance- Hugs: No, the dreadnought is all that is needed to destroy them all. Officer: But sir, we have all the resources we need to effectively wipe out all of them. Why do we have to be reliant on sheer size of power? Hugs: Because it makes us look cooler and menacing.
@0:45 "Tell Captain Canady to prime the first of many plot holes in this movie..........once and for all supreme leader Kennedy will end this franchise!"
One thing I loved about the the First Order compared to The Empire is that they seemed more........brutal and fanatic sure The Empire was imposing yes they built the Star Destroyer and subjugated entire systems but the First Order has this different Zealotry to it that The Empire doesn’t instead of showing up with one star destroyer to control a planet they would show up with 3 or 4 instead of building dozens of small ships they built one massive gunship that outclasses everything they and the rebels have Poe even says “These things are fleet killers!” This ship is clearly worth what 10 star destroyers? It’s like the First Order is a more untamed and Raw version of The Empire like they took only the Fanaticism, dominating qualities for power and oppression, need to cause fear, and Raw destruction that they leave in there wake i mean under the empire many planets did improve even if it was a forced improvement it was still improved while the First Order seems like they would just claim the planet and kill everyone not caring if there was anyone left to rule..... Too bad they ruined all that in the rest of the of this movie and the sequels......
It's kind of sad how when the First Order shows up in these movies I don't even perceive it as a threat to our main characters. Like in the OG Star Wars when the Empire arrived it actually felt a bit scary and like they meant actual business. When the First Order turns up I just roll my eyes and think "oh goodness, here we go again with another useless and uneventful space battle scene made up of weird and unexplainable decisions". The actor who plays Hux is fine but it's the character of General Hux that is just so badly written. No depth, no seriousness... Just an immature child that people laugh at (I personally find the character cringe worthy). Just look at 00:45 - why would any military person say something like that with that tone and making that face. He could've said the line is a much more serious and scary tone that would've made the whole scene a bit more interesting. It literally seems like he's mocking himself or someone when he speaks that line. * I am not hating on the actor but on the character and how the character is portrayed. Thank goodness there's some other crew members who have a couple of lines od dialogue that make the First Order seem like a vaguely "serious" and "trained" bunch of people...

Also most of the laser fire in the movies happen slowly, even thought light travels like instantly
@@MariOmor1 starwars guns are different form laser
@@MariOmor1 Star wars weapons use plasma, which is essentially just superheated gas. Fast, but nowhere near light speed like an actual laser would.
The USS Vengeance would have done a better job than the Fulminatrix.
But yeah, I liked it
Yup, seems like most complaints are about the First Order’s tactics or generally about the film. Visual and audio design is great.
The ship was great! But it seems the Dreadnought is a subtile version of star wars itself. It’s all cool, powerful and mighty….until a Kennedy takes command….
At least Rian Johnson had the courtesy to not make the cannons be death star lasers >.>
this ship had a cool cannon then the rise of skywalker happened
Actually, that dreadnought is the prototype of the Xyston Star Destroyers in Exegol

"Evacuate the city, engage all defenses, and get this man a shield!" I gotta give it to Chadwick Boseman (may he rest in peace on the ancestral plain), his thesaurus-like orders were also pretty good.
This was an awesome series of shots.
In an alternate timeline, the Dreadnought did the sensible thing and destroyed the Resistance Ships first before going after the base.
I like how the Star Destroyers make that neat sound in the vacuum of space when they arrive....
First order: jumps in.

Not really, in 7 the FO was a fraction of the imperial remains who had a small fleet and a big superweapon, but a few days later here they are presented to us as a galaxy controlling super power with unlimited resources. This movie sucked from the beginning.
The most disturbing part of the sequel trilogy… is that Disney created the dreadnaughts alarm 💀
Such a haunting sound
“Incinerate their bade, destroy their transports, and obliterate their fleet… In reverse order of course.”
*the end.*
I mean... at least the introduction was dope
That ship looked so good and menacing and then it got destroyed by 1 bomber
I had a bad feeling while watching this, realising that the most intimidating villain from the last movie looked like a goofy carricature with stomach problems.
The dreadnought should have opened fire on the cruisers first so the rebels couldn't have escaped.

Because Rian and Kathleen can't write a good story without copying someone else's work.
@@vlad78th Exactly. This trilogy deserves to burn.
@@grayski3324 It could’ve been good, a shame.
@@outdoorscholar6016 Palpatine wasn't showing the Battle to Luke for fun
You can see into the atmosfer from the ground, damn that planet has no polution maybe :)
In fact I’ll try to use logic and reasoning:
• Destroy the base: cause the Resistance to scramble to their fighters and transports, leaving everything behind.
Dude was just poorly written, you're looking too far into it.
@@ryansaintz2575 you’re right, he was poorly written and I hate how he went from a terrifying character to a punching bag. That being said, this was not one an example of that. At the very least his order makes sense if you stop and analyze it.
@@outdoorscholar6016 I feel like it would Sow more terror to take out their only means of escape then pick them off one by one, rather than blow up an empty base in a pointless threat display, but that's just me
If the dreadnought hits the Raddus first he not only takes out their major means of escape but also the majority of resistance leadership (who was on board at the time and he would likely know that, Raddus being a capitol ship and all) creating confusion and disorder among resistance ranks.
@@warhawk9566 an empty base? There were still supplies there because one of the Resistance members asks about the munitions, only to be told “leave it, there’s no time”. Captain Canady annoyed at his crew for not telling him the cannons hasn't been charged is the only thing I remember from this movie

The first order of fried chicken and spaghetti with large fries
No no no - you destroy the cruisers first to stop them escaping, then after the autocannons have recharged, you destroy the base to stop them retreating, and the three escort ships destroy the transports while you're doing all this.
Do you know how close to the ground those star destroyers would’ve had to have been for them to look up and see them ? Lmao interesting
To be fair a lot of times planes are visible from the ground and they usually fly at around 10km high , these destroyers are 1-3km long which is far more than any plane , but then again looks like the destroyers are literally in space so yeah they would not see much probably , plus the sound was heard as soon as they appeared which is phisically impossible since the sound is much slower to begin with and I think they should not hear any sound if 'it was real' cause of the vaccum
@@davidkosiba624 yeah but even at that length they still would’ve had to be IN atmosphere to be seen like that lol it was probably just dumb writing, the last 3 movies had a lot of that unfortunately

"We caught them at the middle of their evacuation" Rian Johnson would have us believe Hoth never happened and the Resistance had no countermeasures for such an event.
The ships of the first order are incredible, super imposing, too bad Disney didn't know how to take advantage of this trilogy. :(

Star wars tradition to be fair, much like the trade federation ship that a small child in a fighter blew to pieces or the various death stars.
I love that the older officers in Captain Canady and Hux's subordinate officer were stated to be old Imperials in the source books. It really does explain why they are some of the only ones with common sense in the entire film. Canady especially does give off the 'I'm surrounded by idiots' vibe and Hux' subordinate officer is usually standing in the background knowing that he isn't going to be blamed for anything.
I can get that the "Rebels" could see the Empi- um... "First Order" arriving in space from the planet, but how exactly did they HEAR the arrival?

One thing I loved about the the First Order compared to The Empire is that they seemed more........brutal and fanatic sure The Empire was imposing yes they built the Star Destroyer and subjugated entire systems but the First Order has this different Zealotry to it that The Empire doesn’t instead of showing up with one star destroyer to control a planet they would show up with 3 or 4 instead of building dozens of small ships they built one massive gunship that outclasses everything they and the rebels have Poe even says
“These things are fleet killers!”
This ship is clearly worth what 10 star destroyers? It’s like the First Order is a more untamed and Raw version of The Empire like they took only the Fanaticism, dominating qualities for power and oppression, need to cause fear, and Raw destruction that they leave in there wake i mean under the empire many planets did improve even if it was a forced improvement it was still improved while the First Order seems like they would just claim the planet and kill everyone not caring if there was anyone left to rule.....
Too bad they ruined all that in the rest of the of this movie and the sequels......
They were still pretty brutal. Ten as the Supreme Leader was ruthless.
Cos you can hear things going on in orbit from the surface. And the speed of sound from those happenings is instant
They should have target the fleet first. Once destroyed, the base is useless and their transports won't be able to escape.
The sound the dreadnought makes is so fucking good
I always thought it was just the ship dropping out of hyperspace, then I realized it was an alarm
I love the opening of the movie

why would you target their base when their ships are sitting there? BLOW UP THE SHIPS AND YOU WIN lol
Because shit script.
What I ask myself is: What are the Star Destroyers even doing there? They dont fire on the main ships or later on the bombers.
0:56 that alarm is enough to make you piss yourself
At least this movie had good visuals and cool ships. But that's all it's worth, lots of style, no substance.
