I really appreciate you putting all of this info online! It has taught us a lot. We just bought a 20yo home w/a “unique” pool/spa pump/valve setup (according to the pool specialist we hired to help make sense of everything). He did what he could, but we still can’t seem to figure out how to heat the spa without heating the whole pool. I’d love to pay your for your time to look at some pictures and help us identify pipes, valves, and potential solutions to our dilemma if that’s possible.

Great video! You did a great job explaining things in easy to understand simple terms. Definitely helped me understand my pool valves better. Thank you!

I really enjoyed the information you shared even as a woman it is understandable I do have a question maybe you have an answer to after my spot has heated up and approximately 30 minutes later the water starts to drop almost below the Jets. Do you have any ideas?

About the first valve, it is possible you can have 100% main drain and 50% skimmer?, I think it should be 75% main drain and 25% skimmer in order to get 100% at the end which is the total water flow, can you advise please?

So when I say 100% main drain & 50% skimmer, I’m referring to how open each port of the valve is, not the percentage that’s being drawn. Sorry about the confusion on that.

Have a question for a pool (18x35) How much pressure should be diverted to the water fall (nothing fancy), skimmer?Should it be 50/50, or more to the skimmer?

It’s whatever works best. Every pool is different. Just experiment to see what works best for you.

@ 42 seconds what's that thing that looks like a second pump pot in the ground? I've see other pool videos have them too.

    • @SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS

It essentially is, it’s a large capacity leaf canister that’s ahead of the pump on the suction side. We have them on a fair amount of poools here in AZ. Sometimes they’re built into the pool deck. We see them mostly on pools with in-floor cleaning systems and they’re tied to the main drain

Very important question!! Another pool professional on UA-cam specifically said “NEVER turn any valves while your pump is running!!”…
Then I saw you moving valves with the pump running. PLEASE HELP!!! Opening pool for first time in 2 weeks!!! And scared to break anything!! Thanks!!!!!!

In the beginning he goes over "dead heading" your pump and how to avoid. You don't want cut water off to your pressure side as it cab warp pipes or blow your pump!
If you are not sure always turn the pump off 1st.

    Purpose of the wall returns?

    • @SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS
      @SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS  5 років тому

In general they are there to return water back to the pool after filtration in specific spots that optimize water flow in the pool itself. on this pool, a Paddock pool to be exact, the In-floor system was originally completely separate from the filtration system. the filter pump is supposed to draw from the main drain, pulling in any dust and debris for the filter to trap while the in-floor pump pulls from the front hole of the skimmer to maximize skimming. the filter pump circulation comes back through the returns while the infloor comes through the heads on the bottom.

Whoa... DON'T EVER loosen- up 💩matter (5:05) in the same zip code as your Pool!! Didn't you ever see 🎥"Caddy Shack?!" 😀 BTW , what CL level is required to handle that type of 🚽 situation?!
Lastly, good job mentioning plumbing a valve for a vac-to-waste setting. As a cartridge filter fan, this set-up is perfect IMO.

If it’s poo, chlorine 2 (or more for min 25 mins), if it’s runny, make it 20 (or higher for 13 hours)

Thanks. FOR the 🚽 scene from 🎥"Dumb and Dumber," I THINK I'd go with 30 PPM of chlorine!!😀

No pool fence but little kids around. Block wall (7:06) with no mortar / reinforcement and bricks already falling down. Imagine that falling onto a kid or your dog. Lots of good opportunities to talk about pool safety.

♫ Haaaa haaaa.....yeah, I caught it ... likie the fact pool skimmer and main drain suctions are separate lines here in bay area most pool company's have plumbers tie suctions together right at deep end skimmer, not my choice
