- This is why the 190E 2.3 is one of the most important cars in Mercedes Benz history and arguably one of the greatest cars ever made!

I only have a Sportline Japan spec automatic 2.0 here in Canada, but all 190e cars share the same "look" and yes they are incredibly balanced. The Sportline sits low like the Cosworth with a quick steering box, rims and seats only 4 passengers minus the power, extra handling and rarity. In my opinion they are beautiful cars. I'm fortunate to have found a rust free 91. A keeper.
Thanks for the Video. Good job.
Should I opt for a Sportline Edition? I am looking to buy one 190e right now. Any issues that need to be looked? And are parts available and what's the worst case scenario?
@@manbiteslife3110 Sportline edition are harder to find. Sure, if you could find a good one you'd be better off l think.
They do drive a little stiffer than the regular "sedan" version, so if you prefer a smoother ride the Sportline may not be exactly what you want.
Rust is the biggest issue for any vehicle so always look for rust that's gone too far, especially cars that are winter driven where they salt the roads.
The parts for these cars are readily available and the aren't a nightmare to work on like I've been told by people who've never owned or know anything about them.
They are legendary vehicle that have alot to offer and those who know that own one or want one.
Shop around for one that was taken care of like mine and never winter driven or at least extremely rust free.
@@peterarsenault2671 Thank you. Thankfully the weather in Gr is very good, so rarely the roads are salted, but I will check for rust definitely. I think getting a 1.8 Sportline, is just a waste of a better ride, because 110HP . I want to enjoy the ride and ride it slowly , listen to music etc . Thanks for the information.
when you look at it, it just says “Mercedes”. the most known Mercedes ever.
My 1987 US spec did come with the Dogleg 5 speed manual.
Very informative. Didn’t know the 50km test!
It’s basically the funnest retro daily driver you can get today.
50000 km! 31068 miles!
Thank you so much for the smiles on my face.
I have the normal copy of this 190e and i love it and i will keep it for long time
Nice presentation.....STRAIGHT TO THE POINT...no bullshit !!!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Your cids keep getting better and better. Loved the history and details on the world recors, senna, post...excellent job
I have two W201 190E, my 2.6 Sportline I'm doing a motor swap on using a M104.992 (3.2L) my other 190E getting a AMG V12 5L
"I n the U.S. they did get these cars, but none of them came with the dog-leg, 5-speed that I have right here with me."
You may want to check your notes:
All manual 2.3-16s sold in the U.S. (a little over 1/2 of the 1900+ U.S. spec cars) were equipped with the same Getrag 717.404 dog-leg as every other manually transmissioned 2.3-16 sold globally.
I believe that it was the E30 M3 that did not have a dog-leg trans in U.S. spec (and Japan spec) vs. Euro spec.
And none of the Mercedes 190E 16v variants had ITBs from the factory - they all ran on Bosch KE-Jetronic (CIS-E) with a single throttle body.
i was like this guy is just giving false information lol. However he praised the car atleast.
190e 2.3/2.5-16 with a dogleg 5 speed is the fastest (slow) car i’ve ever driven.
It really comes alive between 4,500-6,000+ RPM!
I’ve had mine for over 10 years and I’ve never felt like I wanted a different car. Granted, I’ve always had a different car for daily chores and crap but I’ve never wanted to get rid of my 2.3-16 to “update” or “””upgrade”””
Great review of one of my favourite cars! Shopping for an EVO 2. New subscriber 🙂
Great review; thank you for sharing it with us.
Sehr schönes Auto
*PKW - PERSON KRAFT WAGEN! Made in Deutschland!*
The dogleg was available on the American spec
Great Video! I have a 1993 190E Sportline 1 of 700. It has 56K original miles with zero modifications. What is it worth? Gonna list it for sale but I was wondering about a reserve price. Thanks
About 1500bucks they are peace of crap, ill buy it for 1200
15k-20k
i'm thinking on getting one as a first car, one i am looking at has around 150k miles on it. Is it worth it still or not?
Get it! getting one tomorrow with 88k miles tho
@@abemade did last month! Love it so far
@@Logiic Looking to buy a 1993 190e 1.8 engine tho, I think it is 5 speed manual. What should I look for, what's the worst case scenario ? Most cars are 200k klm + (120k+ miles) Is it economical ?
@@manbiteslife3110 pretty sure head gaskets are something to look out for. I had a 2.6 1991 and the water pump went, and my block ended up cracking. But those are probably nothing to worry about if the previous owner(s) had any care for the car
its a better brand and its far better built than an E30, also mercedes makes great AMG cars still, you seem to have forgotten!!
Wow! So just to confirm: the dogleg transmission was not offered on any usdm 190e's?
all of them are dog leg transmission if its a manual, i have 2 US Spec cars, 86 and 87 both are dogleg, they came with Bosch CIS, no ITBs unless someone modified it or it has to do with AMG pack.
I have one myself, the same model. I'm wondering, how much does one go for nowadays?
Good condition, 40k
@@artedonthebeat2749 hahahaha u crazy haha i got 3 of them. Learn about shit before u just write some lolb
All the US version with manual transmission, were dogleg type
Sorry but all manual spec 190E 2.3-16 or 2.5-16, wether its a US or Euro spec model. They all had Dogleg transmission’s regardless.
Dogleg transmisión?? Please describe.
Automatic ?
@@ericvelazquez184 dogleg is a manual transmission where first gear is to the left and down putting 2nd and 3rd gear in line aswell as 4th and 5th in line
Right, I have one in my driveway.
What is best automatic 190e
A lot of cars/brands haven't especially or essentially got better over time, the progress is a marketed myth.
Sorry but these 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 never came with ITBs from the factory.
What is the average value of these , I have no clue.
I love mine '!
Owner of this vehicle willing to sell it?
So much misinformation here....
