What ultimately makes this infomercial so epic is that the Showtime Rotisserie is actually an awesome product that truly does absolutely everything Ron Popeil promised. Everything and anything you cook in it comes out amazingly juicy and tender. Ask anyone who has one. I've had mine since 2003, it works as great today as it did on day one and it's still one of my most essential and frequently used kitchen appliances.

I was there when this was made and I'd like to point out a few things. First of all, Ron spent the entire time yelling at everyone on the set and Jill was visibly afraid of him. He was an absolute bastard to everyone on the set. Second, when he hit the rotisserie with the hammer, the first one shattered and it sounded like a bomb. When you see those people jump, they are jumping at the sound (and sight) of the first (and not the second which does not break). It's an editing trick. Ironically, when it came time for lunch, there wasn't enough food for all the people there. Finally, guess what they were paying people with. Right. I got one of those stupid rotisseries. It was big and it kinda worked okay, but it took forever to clean.

Serious as a heart attack. Was there with a friend and sat waaayyyy in the back. I can't comment on what we got for lunch (it wasn't the food on the set), because what was left by the time we got to the table there were only a few chips left in a bowl. I was at the very end of the line.

    • @fkerpants

Well, let's see. I don't remember him cussing at anyone, however he yelled at the director when he dropped one of the metal end plates on the floor after it came out of the oven. The director went to pick it up and Ron yelled at him so he wouldn't burn his hand. Didn't have an apron because I sat in back.

The cause of death was not released, but this is such a blow to the infomercial industry, because Ron was terrific the way he pitched his products ("But wait - there's more!"; "Set it and forget it!"; etc.). I had a friend who worked at Caesar's Palace in Vegas. He told me that Ron was a regular there. One labor day weekend in the late 80's he had booked a suite and had 2 escorts sent to his room. About 3 am calls started coming into the front desk about the noise in his room. When hotel staff got there Ron was completely naked, coked out of his mind, and the escorts had locked themselves in the bathroom. LVPD were called and had to basically hog tie him and carry him downstairs through the main lobby. My buddy said he was banned from the hotel indefinitely.

I live the RonCo life. I go fishing with the Pocket Fisherman, cook the fish with this item. While waiting for the fish to cook, I have a smoke, without filling my house with cigarette smoke, using the smokeless ashtray. Then I go out and look 20 years younger thanks to the spray on hair. The next day, I toss the leftover fish in the Electric Dehydrator to make some fish jerky,.

Hi Folks;About 8-10 yrs. back I saw this item {Showtime Compact} advertized on the T.V. & after thinking it over for a short time{15-20 min.} we ordered one.Man I have to say this little OVEN does what it says it can do--and more !! Ribs,Steaks{small} Chicken,if it's meat and will stay in the rotary basket,or in the rectangle baskets, you can cook it--and NO GREASE {it falls into a catch tray at the bottom so you can threow it away or use part in gravy {for flavoring} I love this OVEN,but as I've reached the young age of 75,am Divorced and only myself & my son,we are giving it to my Daughter for their family to enjoy !!Thank You Ronco for a product that surpassed its advertized ability sincerely;Jerry Rasmussen/WA.state

A few months back, I ended up in hospital, and I couldn't eat all day. On the TV in the hospital room, it was on one of these fucking informercial channels. I got the all clear to eat at 10PM, and I ate. A lot. I can go into more detail if anyone even sees this.

In my opinion, Ron Popeil walked so Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan ran but Ron was always in first place as despite a few gimmicks, he really was a great salesman and inventor as the Showtime Rotisserie and Barbecue really was a great product that did everything he said it does, thus bringing a iconic infomercial product and worldwide phenomenon that one the hearts of many as well as becoming one of the best-selling infomercial products, along with the Bowflex, Jack LaLaine Power Juicer, P90X, and Proactiv Solution.
RIP Ron! Unlike the food in your famous machine, we'll always set our minds to you and we'll never forget you

My mom still has hers she still uses it every thanksgiving to cook our turkey which isn't very big. It's the only time she uses it otherwise it sits in its plastic in the garage. I think at the time when she ordered it back in the day it came with some free gifts and one of them she still has and also still uses is this black defroster plate it came with. Last time I looked in ebay those were selling for alot, maybe because it was an old school item from this era. Anyway pretty cool that mom has been able to keep hers in good working condition.
