Mr. Welch's Mad Musings: The Many Multitudes of Mummy the Resurrection

- White Wolf could create some fantastic monsters to humanize for their players to enjoy. The mummy was a new tale on an old creature, now noble and driven, fighting the oldest war against a foe from Ancient Egypt. It took them three tries and they did get it right, but not in the order you'd suspect. Time to unwrap this game that more like a supplement to everything else all at once.
So, if I wanted to play a short, Highschool-aged character with an Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh who has an obsession with Children's Card Games stuck in his head, that sounds like 3rd edition.
You're wrong, Setite Kaibu. There are no bad spells passed down by Horis!!
"So Set, my most ancient nemesis, finally it is time for us to d-d-d-d-duel."
"What was that?"
"I have no idea."
Tutenstein for me.
Idea for a new spalt: _Necromancer: The Confusion_
The primary existential drama comes from no school of necromancy agreeing on what necromancy is
Surprised there's not a full on World of darkness Cthulhu spalt. Something Deep ones The madness?
@@Se7enBeatleofDoom I guess the fansplat _Leviathan: The Tempest_ might be close to this? I try to avoid checking out fansplat 'cause every time I do it there's a new fork of _Princess: the Hopeful_
I like how White Wolf looked at the 2 different takes on Mummy, and rather than trying to create a combination of the two in New World of Darkness, they split them j to two separate creatures (Mummies and Sun-Eaters).
With the latter also serving as the closest equivalent to Wraiths for extra measure
I think we may have discovered Big Ds origions in hunter the paranting.
You said "basest sabbat" but I heard it as "bassist sabbat" now I kinda want to play that.
You would think Hunters would love Mummies
Depends on the sub set of Hunter's really. Some may work closely with them as allies, or even subordinates (Many Mummy cults probably double as Hunter cells), while other's want to off anything Supernatural no questions asked.
Says something about relative popularity of the lines that, back in the 90s, I thought Mummy was the mainline and Wraith the spin-off...
All they had to do for the retcon was say "We changed the writing on the tree of life. If we hadn't then Apophis would have won." Problem solved.
You could not have picked a better photo of Oded Fehr. Perfect
Thanks for reminding me why I gave up on the World of Darkness decades ago.
It's interesting seeing where the Mummies slot into the metaplot and how many other splats stole their schticks. A dead person with an old spirit in them? Take your pick - Exalted, Demon, etc.
I heard somewhere that the last edition of Mummy has turned into the blueprint for Exalted that released not too long after.
If you do like your WoD stuff, a former Exalted dev did fulfil the ancient promise of Exalted of being the precursor to World of Darkness with Exalted vs World of Darkness, but I'm not sure what your policy is on reviewing homebrew even if it is more feature complete than Mummy :D.
I loved 1st Edition Mummy. It placed them in their proper place as additional puppet masters in The Great Game. ;) [ Pun Intended ]
With mummy down i guess the other splat books are next. I always fan of Sorcerer but the Gypsy books was pretty cool too.
Wait so Mummy was like Beast? I have had the hardest time thinking of a session let alone a campaign with multiple supernatural templates.
If we're going with nWoD, those 3rd edition Mummies are effectively a precursor to _Geist: The Sin-Eater_ . It's got the whole "Recently deceased returns to the land of the living by becoming a host for an even older deceased" angle, except in Mummy the new voice in your head is always from Ancient Egypt.
FASA Trek?!?! Finally! I cannot wait.
I knew nothing about Mummy the Resurection before this, but your descriptions, examples, and plot hooks make me want to find this game. Great work.
So, did the whole "Ford F-150" thing actually happen in one of your games?
Not just the F-150, we used anything with wheels as a melee or thrown weapon. Decapitated a vampire with a thrown Harley. Shot put a Yugo. You didn't want to be anywhere near a pinto in the WOD
@@Mr_Welch That's hilarious.
ohh HELLL YEAHHH this and Demon the fallen were a particular obsession of mine in my teenage days.
then again I was a fan of that GOTHY birb Boi as well.. (le crow... *insert the cure song here*)
sooo the mummy was the closest my ST would get to something like that or the highlander lol.
but I gleefully await a Kuejin one ...eventually lol
Great video on this more obscure corner of the World of Darkness. Any possibility you might take a look at their Chronicles of Darkness counterpart, Mummy: The Curse?
Would have to find a copy
I concur. MTC is a very interesting game, entirely different from what came before. would love to see a deep dive on it
To be honest I do kinda fuck with third edition mummy. I would change a few things though before throwing my players in, like at least 1 player can keep playing their old one and having to get the new spell of life only applying to those souls there when the ghost nuke blew up. Everyone else is fine as long as you don’t die in the meantime.
very poor choice of words
@@killazaawl I’m not a coward
Could we get a Harnmaster/Harnworld MM? Would love for more people to hear about it :)
OMG Houston Attic Welfare Mummies!!! Bahahaha
How do you memorize your script so well, especially after reading so much content for a video? :>
I do read from the script I wrote
@@Mr_Welch makes sense! It's very well done!
16:10 what show?
