If ya liked this field recording, be sure to check out Odie's other stuff. You can find her on Instagram at @odieleigh. We've got a bunch of cool things coming up this month! Check out what we're up to on Instagram at @gemsonvhs.
Excellent job. I'd like to believe that Connie found herself a happy life where she belonged. If she were somehow still alive, she would have just turned 99.
Just like that, a singer songwriters memory is resurrected 60 yrs later to have their songs heard by more than ever did during her lifetime. I think is awesome you all put that link about Connie in the description 👍👍 this modern folky version does it for me but I'm looking forward to hearing Connie's 2007 and 2020 releases of her music along with yours Odie. You are new to me as of this years GITR contest. ✌️
Beautiful song. Didn't know Connie Converse, gotta change that ASAP. Chords and lyrics below folks, have fun! Thanks for this I was just going to try figuring out the chords. So a key change between verse and chorus…can figure how the Bb7 factors in theory-wise?
@@dirtyzee3401 Good one! It's called a Flat III Major chord and is used sometimes to have more variety in the key. It works because the the chord is "borrowed" from the minor parallel. So in this case, Bb7 is not part of the key of G, but it is part of the key of Gm. Because it is borrowed from the minor parallel, it sounds a bit sad or "bluesy" even though its a major chord. Google "Flat III Major" for some deeper insights!
Thanks @Cedar River…very cool to learn about that. Great explanation. I’ll look up more about Flat III Major. Been trying to learn more chord substitutions lately :)

Just checked out some Connie Converse & loved every bit of it. Odie def does her justice. Both have such a welcoming voice that’s easy on the ears.
Just such an achingly beautiful voice from a stunningly beautiful lady.
Fandabbiedozie!!!!
A nice tribute to Connie Converse. Well Done 👏
Old guy from England here , few days ago I heard the story of Connie Converse on the radio and hear I am enjoying Ms Leigh's performances

Chords and lyrics below folks, have fun!
Standard tuning, no Capo
Bb7 113131
Intro C Am Dm G / C G C
Chorus C Am Dm G / C Am F G / Em Am D / Dm G C
Verses G D G D / G Am Bm Am / G Am G C / Bm Bb7 D G
[Intro]
[Chorus]
People say a roving woman
Is likely not to be better than she ought to be
So when I stray away from where I got to be
Someone always takes me home
[Verse 1]
A lady never should habituate saloons
And that is where I find myself on many afternoons
And just as I begin to blow away the foam
Someone tips his hat to me and takes me home
[Chorus]
People say a roving woman
Is likely not to be better than she ought to be
So when I stray away from where I've got to be
Someone always takes me home
[Verse 2]
Now poker is a game a lady shouldn't play
But every floating poker game just seems to float my way
And long before I've lost a thing besides my comb
Someone tips his hand to me and takes me home
[Chorus]
Don't see why they always do it
Can't be vanity; must be sheer humanity
When some kind soul remarks with great urbanity
'Lady let me take you home'
[Verse 3]
And sure there's bound to be some sort of aftermath
That makes a pleasant ending of the straight and narrow path
And as I go to sleep I cannot help but think
How glad I am that I was saved from cards and drink
[Chorus]
People say a roving woman
Is likely not to be better than she ought to be
So when I stray away from where I've got to be
Someone always takes me home

😍
Your voice is better than Connie Converse's voice. Maybe you should do her songs more.
