I can't believe I missed this gem. Perfect timing since there's water in my current painting. Thanks
Fantastic painting! James you are the best water colour painter in the US of America.
I wish this one was a little longer and we could see the finished product for more than a few seconds. Most of your wonderful videos allow us that privilege. You're one of my art heroes and I love your channel. Thank you for all the incredible work.
Just discovered your channel about two weeks ago and have been binge-watching your videos! I have learned so much from you in that time! Thank you so much!
You make my love for paint grow every day, your art is so good and beautiful , and your videos so relaxing and good lessons keep going😁
Thank you, Mai. Best wishes to you.
You are such a great artist. I have seen other paintings you have done. And, I can tell from your techniques that you have done a lot of oil painting.
The water: flowing
The birds: flapping
The brush: *flying*
I love your art even that I watch your videos to pass the time, thanks James you're awesome.
LOVE IT. I long for warmer days where I can paint again outdoors. So happy to have found you on UA-cam. I have seen your paintings in person in NYC galleries. How wonderful that you are sharing your process here. Look forward to all your videos.
Really beautiful work. I'm making my way through many of your videos and aside from the paintings always being great, the videos are really well made too. Many thanks.
I love the happy accidents you sometimes make
Bob Ross quoting ?
+mohand semroud obviously ...
Watching you paint with gouache, tempts me to try it!!! Your results are so lovely!!
Starts very loose and works up towards tying the whole painting so beautifully in the end....lovely.
James your fantastic and I love your personality you seem like a real down to earth guy!
Beautiful! Another great lesson by the legend.
Love your videos, thanks for making them !!
I don’t know if you are still posting, but this was great! Thank you 😊
Hi James,
Thank you for your videos which have inspired me to try gouache which I couldn’t see the point of before. There is one thing extra you could do for the ignorant like me which is to do a time lapse of the whole painting process at the end, or separately, so that having had the explanations one can appreciate the process in its entirety. Thanks again.
Just purchased Casein in the Wild, Love it!
This came out very well!!!
James, I’m a watercolorist who has discovered gouache through your videos. I’m already hooked though I am in that awkward stage of having to figure out all the beginner steps from when you can layer color, paint to water ratio, dark to light (Wow, how fun is that for a watercolorist! ) and how to set up a palette to minimize paints drying, or even how much paint is typical to put out for a sketch. Do you go through a lot more gouache? My wc tubes last for months and I’m seeming to go through gouache rather quickly. I see that wet paper towel in this video and others paint on what I assume is acrylic paper. Do you have any videos that are more like a paint along, showing color mixing, discussing the amount of water, the theories behind an opaque under painting, etc. Basically a structured gouache workshop or course so I can cut the learning curve?
I agree with ALL the others, please make more vids and I just love your personality :-)
Love watching you and the flying pencil/paint brush through the air, LOL :) that was really funny he, he :-)
Big Hugs!!
Reeah.
Your hat is a good complement ! The horse is near I suppose.
And your painting inspiring. Thanks.
So wonderful!

That's beautiful
So very cool!!!!
the last scene?! in this video what you said in the gurney studio box .I love it
In the logo animation - behind the scenes video you still didn't cover that part when you're making yourself smaller to fit the little window. Aha! Keeping the REAL real magic secrets to yourself only, mr wizard!
Beautiful painting, thx for posting!
fantastico!!!!!!
very nice effect :)
You've inspired me to get a beginning palette of caesin, though I don't know what I'm doing yet! LOL. Wondering if you made that diffuser yourself & what the material is.
Yes, the diffuser is homemade from white nylon fabric on an aluminum frame.
Thanks! :)
Really good , Do you ha e a video en best brushes?
I admire your approach to what I like, sketching with pencil, illustration. I am trying to learn to incorporate your painting techniques. As a retired RN, I wish to use safe, non odorous, media like watercolor, water-mixable oil & acrylics.
Are Gouaches & Caseins in the same category?
Also have you any opinion on Strada easels?
Thank you,
Jeanne
Gouaches and caseins are indeed in the same category.
I think you have photographic vision . I know I need to go out and do plein air but as soon as I think of people will stare a me and say look he's drawing painting I get so nervous and forget about the basic painting techniques How can I over come it, Master?
Hi James, can you use the same approach with oil paint to make the water?
Yes, here's a YT video -- ua-cam.com/video/sbfsYJTuX6g/v-deo.html
James, is casein paint the same as Plaka paint? I'm trying to source it here in South Africa and can't find anyone who knows what it is.
Val, I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever seen Plaka paint. If you can't find casein where you are, gouache is totally fine and actually quite similar.
Thanks James.
Hey! I have seen that you always stay in a pose with the legs very opened. Why? Is it better for the legs to rest?
Hi. Is this acrylic?
Haha. Yes, do not spray the bear spray on Yourself!😂 I worked in Yellowstone for 5 years and you would be surprised at how many people actually spray it on themselves thinking it is a bear repellent?!!
Who are the six people that disliked this video? I want to know please.
I like your voice it's weird, like... I don't know. Is it like Karl? Look up Karl Kummerle. Xoxo!!!
Here to make friends with you. I live in Ukraine
Cool! So many of my favorite painters worked in Urkraine, such as Ivan Shishkin, right?
That bear spray is useless as an artist. I would be eaten before I realized there was a bear.
This guy focuses the camera more on himself than the work he is 'supposedly' trying to teach his viewers.
From sloppy background to completed painting in 3 shots of the work.
