Should I putt them back in my bag!! What do you think? If you enjoyed this video don’t forget to please hit that thumbs up button 👍
Tell me if I’m wrong but what I saw a beautiful strike with Rickie Fowler five than a miss hit. Then was the one length more of a true to Center Strike with both shots. I cannot say put them back in your bag but play the Best clubs to work best for you.
I went to them after having five low back surgeries. I could not play anymore with my old clubs. I really missed playing so first I bought a cheap set of off brand one length from a guy that assembled clubs in California. After two years back to playing I went to the Radspeed one length. I got reg flex graphite shafts and got them all in six iron length. I am 6’2” with bad lower back so the six iron length works great for me. I use 7 thru sand wedge and 3,57,9, 11woods and driver.
Put them back in the bag!!!
Yes. I think these are potentially a bad choice for players with lower swing speeds though. I've seen players try to get fitted for those irons and for whatever reason there was very small differences in distances from one club to the next.
I have slow swing speed and they are good through 7 iron for sure. My problems with five iron up were the same with standard length clubs. I use high lofted woods to bridge the gap. Works well for me.
Did the change to the King Cobra Forged Tec OneLength and love them - Easy to control and did not loose any distance
It's a great video and something people should consider. That said, when I got back into golf after a long break, I went with one-length irons to make it easier to get back into the game as I figured I'd need fewer swings. I had the one-length from 4i to GW. For me, I struggled a bit with the really long wedges and found that I just didn't have the swing speed to get a good gapping at the lower lofted irons. For people with high swing speed, the low lofted irons can work, but for many, they don't. I was playing the clubs from Tom Wishon, so I sent him an email asking about this issue. He said he stopped making the GW and the 4i in his one-length clubs and that for a lot of players, even the 5i in the one-length wouldn't go further than the 6i, making him decide to offer hybrids in his set.
I tried replacing more of them with hybrids at the low-lofted end of the bag to get the gapping right, but then, it eventually felt like the point of the one-length system had failed, since the low-lofted irons that I'd struggled with were replaced by (longer) hybrids and I never had problems hitting wedges. In the end, I abandoned them and went back to variable length clubs.
maybe just maybe you need to have the club head a little heaver....than the 270g wt....maybe look into making the club head wt 280 to 285 grams on the 3 iron....4 iron and 5 iron....more head wt will make it go farther...more mass in the club head.....
Will you please comment on what length driver and fairway woods you would use with these?
Hi Alex, a great comparison. It does make sense when you think about it, however there is a reason why the manufacturers don’t generally market these? Why? However, you did hold the one size length 9 iron down in the shaft which does negate the length of the shaft differentials. 🤔.
👍😎🇦🇺
I had the same thought while watching the video. If you’re going to grip down on the shorter irons, that kind of defeats the purpose of “one length”, doesn’t it?
Put one lengths in my bag a year ago and can honestly say it has transformed my iron game!! I won’t be going back to regular length.
If you’re picking up the game, I think folks should definitely consider them to just simplify things as they’re learning.taking ball position out as a variable fo 60-70% of their shots will definitely help their score. If they get pretty good they could always switch to a progressive set.
I started golfing in August 2021 at the age of 61. I'm using one length irons and I feel it has made my learning curve for golf much easier. Thanks for all your helpful golf tips!
Yes!!! This is why people that’s to try them
To add to your thoughts on OL clubs, one nice bonus with them is having 7 iron length on a sand wedge gives you some extra oomph to smoothly splash bunker shots out. Same with pitch shots from the rough.
I made my set one length, all based on my 7 iron (i added 1" to 7 ). I did a different length for all my wedges, added .5" to PW and matched all others to that.... Loving it so far!
I got a set about two years ago . Took a little while to get use to but now I love them
Yes Paul! What set did you get??
I’m in the process of moving to one length irons, a couple of months now. I love the concept, it gives a lot move confidence standing over the ball. I’m currently around a 20 handicap and hopefully this will help me move forward in my game. Thanks for the video Alex.
great that you are already on the process of moving over - what irons have you gone for?
@@AlexElliottGolf I bought a used set of Cobra F8’s adjusted the length a little bit, I’m 5’ 3” so the 7 iron length seemed too long. If all continues to work I plan on moving to newer set.
I tried some of the earlier models. I couldnt get the 4-5i above head high. Supposedly theyve gotten a lot better over the past few years.
Same
Need to bare in mind that those one lengths are 3 years old - the latest iteration are much improved and the distances/gapping are nigh on perfect now in comparison to variable length.
I shifted from TM p790s to Gap Forge Tech 6-GW, with a 5 and 4 F9 hybrid One length…mid 21.
I don’t maintain a official handicap, but regularly break 80, 40 for 9.
Lost c.5 yards, but they gap nicely.
I
They feel great, and I won’t say my scores have fallen, but the fun level of flushing shot after shot is truly immense.
I won’t go back to normal clubs ever.
Was at the Beeches earlier today. Sadly, with the exception of my PW, not hitting it at all well! More practice definitely needed.
I built my own irons (Mizuno JPX 919 Pro) it’s variable through out the set. The only difference is once I got to 7 iron, I cut the shafts at 1/4” increments instead of the standard 1/2” for 6I to 4I.
I use OL 6 to pw and then I have 3 wedges all the same length at 36 inches because I tend not to swing full out with them and the longer clubs I just missed out the 5 iron and went to the 4 iron and that gapped it in nicely and into my 5 wood, 3 wood and driver
I run a combo set, with one length down to 7 iron and then back to variable length.
I just changed from Forged One Tech to P790s. Get more distance on my longer irons.
I’m looking to take up golf this month and was thinking one length might be the best way for a beginner to keep it simple. This video may well have confirmed it for me!
yes Michael!! I would highly recommend them for a beginner golfer for sure - takes the complexity out of some of the game
Glad this has come up Alex
Going for a club fit at the end of the month for the one length in the king forged tec irons in the copper or the forged tec black I’m around the 28hc would you say these are forgiving irons.
I use the mizuno mp h5 at the mo but struggle with them.
Cheers
Shane
Ditto here. Struggling a bit with the Mizuno MP-H5 (Got them at a discount last year - think the Dynamic Gold shafts killing the ball flight esp in long irons). Have planned for a Pinhawk set of OL irons by the year end. What has been your experience, Shane?
I think a combo set 4-7 one length then 8-PW variable length as they are easier to hit
One length is a great idea for most golfers and plan on giving them a try. Any club recommendations or maybe you could do a video on the different OL iron options are out there without breaking the bank. Keep the videos coming.
Have been playing single length irons for a year now. I have been so much more consistent. It took a while to get used to it, but it’s definitely worth it! Game 7-pw irons and 5-6 one length hybrids.
Yes Andreas what irons do you have???
My son took my cobra forged tec one length. I wish I would've bought a second set but I went with the cobra king tour, with mim. I love the king tour but the one length is simply put . The same swing every time
I just got a set of Mazel one lenght, haven't tried them yet but will. Also, nice Gear!! I'm a Puma man myself!
Looking forward to testing the new Cobra one length irons. Currently playing Cobra F9 one length
Ordered just waiting for Cobra forged tec One length 6-gw coming soon I hope this week sometime. Thanks for the one length video.
Hope you enjoy it! you have to let me know how you get on with the irons
Do you have any idea how many pro's are playing same length clubs.
Curious why you would grip down on the 9i, that defeats the purpose of "same everything"
Very interesting! I actually wondered about that myself. New to golf and thought it might be better if all the clubs were the same length.? Easier to get consistent that way. Sure would like to test that at a fitting place. I would seriously consider doing this if it felt comfortable.
MY well have missed this but are the one lengths the Cobras? Have F9 driver, 5 & 7 woods
So 180 with 5 iron and 140 with 9 iron. Seems like you could start getting a little crowded in the middle. What about loft angles??? Is a shorter length 5 going to have stronger loft to compensate??
I like single length from 6i-PW, hybrid 3 & 5, the standard length wedges (GW, SW & LW). I did get some game improvement irons for the coming season at standard length (5i, 7i, 9i-PW) to pair with my standard wedges to see if I can get back into variable length. I have options now. I had to go back to standard wedges because I was SKYING my PW & SW... it was comical.
Changed to one length just over a year ago and have dropped 8 shots off my handicap since
Love all your training videos. Currently I use hybrids in place of 5 and 6 irons. How does this factor into the 1 length thinking?
I have recently started using one length clubs as a beginner and it's slowly starting to feel comfortable.
Have a set of Milford ( Aus made ) with 2 hybrids and 5-pw irons. Will be having lessons shortly and will decide whether to get the 3 wedges as well.
Why did you move away from them and do you ever out on Course wish you had them?
Me too. I tried SL F7 Cobra (liked them) then SL F9 Cobra ( not so great for me) then the Milford SL-7. It was obvious with my swing speed ( driver 90 mph) that less than 30 degrees I was better off with hybrids. I tried the Cobra SL Hybrids 19, 22, 25 degrees, but without roll except in summer , the 22 and 25 gapping was and issue. You can substitute Hybrids or Hybrid - irons to get good gapping when the SL irons gapping gets too close at your swing speed.
The best part of SL irons is that you have a wide zone of approach distances that the swing is just the same= more accuracy.
I have a custom one length 4 iron which is great on home woodland course (under trees..), rest are standard. I could maybe see the benefit of a combo set: 4567 (1L) 89PW (Std).
I have the radspeed one length set. Love having the same set up and swing for each club. Have standard wedge lengths and no issues between each. Gapping is about 10-13 yards for me with the 7 iron at 170. Besides the odd hot off the face shot that goes 10-20 yards too far and the chunky heads they are great. Thinking about switching to forged for better dispersion.
Love that!!!’ They may have to go back in the bag 🤣🤣🤣
i started with one length with 5-6i and 4-3hy with the short irons being variable length. i am currently going back and forth with my variable long irons cause they gap better but inconsistent when i need them to be. like you, I never leave my one length 3hy out of my bag. its been my go to when i just cant hit anything.
love that you have the Hybrid too!!
@@AlexElliottGolf how is your gapping from your 5w to hybrid to longest iron?
Typically gapping from iron to iron is rougly 4 degrees and 1/2 inch. If using one length with 7 iron as the "standard", does it make sense to have 5 degree gapping from that (whether your 7 be 34 or 32 degrees or whatever) to get distances better gapped. i.e. PW will be longer length than normal but higher lofted. 4 iron the reverse.
I switched to one length, only been playing 4 1/2 months. I started on p790s yeah daft I know, but switched about 2 months in to the 1 length cobras and they have helped me. Im managing to shoot 96 and Im literally a complete beginner with no previous experience. Im playing a lot though like every day, jumped i head first with gc quad etc Im fortunate enough to be able to so why not. Im getting 18 on my quad out of the 7 iron, the rest gap up nice. I think for a new golfer they are a no brainer.
In the F7 and F8 one length more issues but by the time Cobra got to the Radspeed they had engineered the heads to accommodate the one length shafts and have come much closer to standard length clubs carry distances
yes i have heard that is the case i look forward to trying them
Interesting option to change to one length clubs. Would have to reassess distances of all irons and surely wedges would go miles high?
Yes they do go a little further that is for sure
Hmmm. It will take more convincing for me to try one length irons. Perhaps I’m just a traditionalist, but I think you learn to hit what you have in your bag (and what you practice with). That said, the longest iron in my bag now day is a 5. If I need something longer than that, I use a hybrid.
Alex, thanks for this. I'd love to know the gaps you found across the entire set, by club.
My concern is that these irons would "bunch up" a bit more than i'd want. I've heard that plus or minus 1/2" is, on average, about 5 yards in distance -- while plus or minus a degree is a yard or two in distance.
Would you also use the 7i length hybrids?
If you could share the gaps you found across full set / how you'd set up the rest of the bag, i'd really appreciate it.
Thank you - I use a one length hybrid still to this day. I have found it’s great out of rough. It’s a tough one isn’t it does the cons out way the pros… or pros out way the cons
@@AlexElliottGolf thank you. So what are the gaps you find for each club? Thank you
@@laxbro7ify these are my cobra one length average gaps for me. 85 mph club head, 120 ball speed. Slightly out to in fade. Working on in to out draw shot and when I hit it successfully my carry goes 10+ yards more.
G - 119
P - 131
9 - 145
8 - 155
7 - 167
6 - 177
5 - 188
Makes a lot of sense to a senior golfer like me.
have you ever thought about them?
Wait a minute Alex. I thought with OL irons that the lie, loft and weight have been “adjusted” to compensate for the shorter length in the longer irons and the longer length in the traditional shorter irons. So my question is this, what is your ave distance in the long iron you hit? Is it really 195 yds or is it normally closer to the 180 yrds? I am more confused now.
This is for 100% of junior golfers!
However, what is the dispersion pattern between the long irons? Yes you can crush one almost 200, but is the consistency and accuracy their for the variable length compared to one length. I think people get turned off by any loss of distance and do not take into account their accuracy dramatically increases.
Tried the Tommy Armours years ago and lost distance on long irons.
Great video Alex I always thought it strange how the clubs differed in length. Bryson De Chambeau was the first pro I remember seeing with same length clubs. For the average hacker it’s a no brainer to be able to groove a swing and gain consistency.
look into TOMMY ARMUOR he had same length clubs back in the early to mid 80s.....also if same length clubs were good enough for BOBBY JONES they should be good enough for people today...
My only concern would be losing the yardage from the long irons. My 4 iron is my 210-215 club currently so the gap between it and my 5 wood would be too much with a one length 4 iron I think. But.....straighter would be really nice.
Hello David, if you could set it up to get only just a little shorter would you consider them?
@@AlexElliottGolf I think yes because my dispersion should be much better. I am a good iron player anyway but it would make me even better.
I've recently cut my 3 iron down to a 5 iron lenght as a test. I'm now doing the same with my 4 iron. I hit my 5 iron well so wouldn't consider making my long irons shorter than that but I'll keep the rest of my irons variable length.
you should also think about increasing you club head wt to around 280 to 285 grams.. more mass in the club head more distance.... you should make the club length the length you hit your best iron the same length.. so if your 5 iron is truly the club you hit the best out of all your clubs then make your 4 iron and 3 iron the same length. as your 5 iron. keep your other clubs the same
Put them back in. I often wondered if it would be better or more consistent with one length irons.
I would think it’s an interesting thing to think about Wayne
Great video mate , very interesting 🏌️♀️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️👍
I tried the cobra one length 4-5 years ago. I hit my old 2004 callaway irons better.
Great video Alex very interesting topic .
Glad you think so!
I didn't see an advantage/gain here. 5i shorter, 9i longer.
But I'm sure the wrong trajectory for distance will be a problem on approaches.
The 5i is merely a de-lofted 7i. Do you want to de-loft approach shots?
Unless square grooved, I would be afraid of going off the back with a OL 5i.
In my opinion, one length is more for a beginner golfer to simplify the game and make it more enjoyable. I think one length takes away some creativity that makes the game more enjoyable to a better player.
Back in the bag, mate!
I would keep the Ricky fowlers in no matter what just for the sheer looks of them.never thought about one lengths before so it’s food for thought👏👏
Hahaha 🤣 they are just so good looking
Alex, the one thing you neglected to mention is the fact that the scoring clubs 8,9,W, are longer at one length thus making them more difficult to hit for most. Shorter length clubs are easier to hit, and many will like that too in their scoring clubs. Length of shot doesn’t matter as much with these clubs as long as you know your distances. To each his own though as I always say; whatever works.
Yes Nelson I missed this point but this is a great point
So, Alex, why aren't you using single-length irons if they simplify the golf swing which will lower the odds of hitting poor shots? Record the distance for each single-length club just as you've done with your current clubs, and you're set to go. What's the argument against doing that? Bryson DeChambeau uses single-length irons.
Isn't the best solution to simply replace your 3i to 6i with one length versions and leave the rest of your bag as it is?
One club I will tell people to try is a single length 4h, I find the 7i length makes it versatile and so easy to use from: tees, fairways, rough, divots, fairway bunkers etc. It's also good for chipping and bump and run shots around the green and I even putt with it occasionally.
This is great Eric!! This is a problem I think I think the weighting the gapping could me out
I think if you used the 2020 forged tec one lengths you’d see an improvement from the previous iteration used in this video
yes i would agree adam! I look forward to testing them
@@AlexElliottGolf I play the Radspeed OL’s and have the snake bites in OL wedges but debating going variable length GW, SW & LB just for more control around the greens as you have to do a full 7i swing from 50 yards away with these
For someone who struggles hitting their 5-7, but not their 8-PW. What are your thoughts on one length for the longer irons and variable for the shorter irons?
i don't know if this would work im not sure how the gapping would work as the irons may not sit correctly together. thank you david its a great questions
I bought a custom fit set of STERLING one length irons when the one length HYPE was COOL 4-5 years ago and liked them, till I got to the 8-9-PW & SW and I pulled the ball left 20-30 yards, and I went back to the fitter and we kept bending them till we couldn't go any further and I STILL pulled the ball left, so they are NOT for everyone ....LOL
Ehh, the 9 iron would prolly have some pretty dope height and spin. Looks like at the other end of the bag, you’d just need a 4 iron to make up distance for your RF 5 iron, so no big deal.
What would be interesting is for you to play the same course 3 days in a row with one set, then 3 days with other and show us your score card and feedback.
very happy with one length
Glad you like it!
Funny to see this now! Just traded out the RF irons for one lengths!
Did try the new Cobra one lengths that are coming out 🤯 unreal! Bye bye Miuras!
What happened to the second shot with the 1L that was cut out?
not sure what you mean sorry
@@AlexElliottGolf the shot edited out at 4:20
When you gripped down on the "single length" 9 iron, didn't you defeat the idea of single length?
Thanks Alex, but on this one, I have to say no, I'll stick with my current setup. 15 yards is too much to give up when controlling path isn't an issue for me. It would also take too long to get used to a PW the length of a 7 iron. Interesting proposition though.
What are you using blaze???
@@AlexElliottGolf Callaway irons and wedges. Warrior hybrids and woods. Taylormade Ghost putter.
My 3i-PW are the same length. It completely takes the guesswork out of approach shots. I hit my 3i the same way I hit my PW and get great results. Maybe it's mental, maybe it's physics, but who cares. It works.
I don’t believe this a fair comparison
Considering the RF irons are regarded as some of the hardest blades on the market to play.
Why don't use one length only for 7 6 and 5?
biggest mistake is also the 4 iron and 3 iron should be same length as well,, if anything you should go with the standard length in the 9 iron and wedges. same length from 8 to 3 iron.. those are alll the same length....maybe also look into have the woods and driver set up for same length...
You surprised me with this one I thought you were going to be talking about hybrid irons.
Have you tried the hybrids???
@@AlexElliottGolf No but being old and broken I'm leaning that way.
I think you just have to have half decent swing speed, otherwise I don’t think your gonna get the long irons to work. Better off moving into hybrids I think. Also my 7i is 36.5” which is 1” shorter than standard Cobra OL irons. I’d be really struggling with a full set at this length I think? Any thoughts? Thanks
Just put the 2022 Cobra ForgeTec One length irons in the bag - I’m getting both better accuracy and equal/more distance with more consistency. There’s a lot of stigma surrounding the concept but truthfully the technology inside the club heads to compensate well make up for it. I feel more confident which helps me think less to just step up to hit. Strike me as a big fan of the OL concept.
One length much more controllable. I love my one length RadSpeed irons
love that Eric!!!
Can my current set be cut to 7 iron length?🤔
Ooooo this is a good question… I think the balance of the set would be a little out
You can’t just cut your current set. You’ll need to go through and match swing weights and lie angles will need to change. Also, kick points in the shafts will change. The results will be far from optimal. You’d need to find a really good builder to make the adjustments, but honestly, probably better just buying a set.
I hit my pitching 150
Na, one length surely runs out of steam after 6 iron. I could see it working as pairs or 3s of irons, like wedges one length, mid irons another length etc.. but trying to massage a chip with a 7 iron length wedge ...no thanks. Equally trying to hit a long iron off a tee with a mid iron length.....
Gimmick. Maybe if you have 3 hybrids and about 5 irons.
No ... one length and you grip down then it's not one length the distance the ball is away from you has changed. Long irons hit short distance and short irons long distance. Stick with your RF irons. It's an option if you are after a new set but please give them a very good try out and if possible on the course. I know someone who brought into them and it didn't work out. Not everyone is DeChambeau.
Sounds daft, why not play variable wedge to 7 iron then adjust the lofts on the longer irons to get the correct gapping on 1 length irons 6 to 4/3 iron??
A 3 length set seems money for me
Maybe a little but more consistent and that is what matters
yes this is something to think about
Tried them. Hated them. The tech is legit but I think it would have to be the clubs I first learn with
Yes and no? You can understand our issues with normal clubs better when you use variable length.
However you could become an advocate for single length and improve peoples enjoyment of their golf ?
Maybe have both !
Yes I think it’s a big thing to help golfers
I hope Cobra will continue developing these One Lenght clubs for those of us who are slowly losing club head speed and to get the right distance where it matters. Good question Alex!
Go with one length...👍 😃
Sounds good but I can't afford to lose 15 yards on my 5 iron.
99% of golfers don't have the swing speed to launch the 5 and 4 irons with a 7iron length shaft in it though
Not even with the correct shaft for them and the bigger more forgiving head with lower and further back CG
I’d stay with the legacy irons Alex.
Nice frank!! Ow long have you had them??
would be much better if they were the same length for the 6..5....4...3 irons rather than the other way....have the length the same as the 7 iron or 8 iron .....after all BOBBY JONES played with same length clubs... look it up and his clubs are on display at the MASTER for anyone to see.....
If you grip it shorter you kill the game
99% of golfers should stop looking for easy ways out and just put the damn time in.
yeah just get 1 length iron w/ driver length so every club is easy to hit lmao
HAHAH i think this would make it all very hard haha
