The reason they got such a poor perception of this and Am I Evil was because Metallica had already recorded these and since the band hadn't been around for about 10 years prior to this, the fans thought they were covering Metallica songs when in fact these were there own.
Me and my mate managed to sneak through security and help the roadies move some gear, by feeding string through our tickets and wearing them as a pass - then walking backwards through the entrance as a big group exited :) happy days. wish I was sixteen again eh?
I was at this gig when Megadeth came on right on the barrier. My Girlfriend decide to 'come along sigh' When the crush started she failed and got pulled over the top. Security asked me if I knew her and wanted to come over too? I took one look at Mustaine up on stage and said "Na mate, never seen her before".
I was at this gig and I seem to remember the lead singer of Diamondhead getting quite frustrated and shouting '...well i suppose you rather us just play 'Am I evil nine or ten times eh?..'
I don't know why he had such an attitude, I mean their brand of metal was very dated by 1993. An out-of-time band being fronted by Lemmy and Elvis's lovechild doesn't really resonate with a 16 year old waiting for metallica and megadeth
They - like Megadeth - also suffered from a very subdued mix. Metallica were the only band that sounded decent that evening. My favorite memory was the drum tech sound checking the drums and playing a simple backbeat, to which the crowd started chanting "YOU FAT BASTARD...YOU FAT BASTARD". Thinking about it, as it was so close to their stage time It was all maybe a bit last minute.
Fuck yeah, he does. This is a great live performance, though. Diamond Head definitely puts on a good show. I would go see them live, no shit. \m/ All Hails rkwdiamondhead. All Hails. \m/
I was there, was it really nearly 30 years ago, only recently discovered diamond head filled in for Alice in chains. Would of loved to of seen Alice in Chains, but Diamond head rocked
The wikipedia account of this concert seems to sound a lot more negative than what the actual concert looked like. "They opened with their flagship song, "Am I Evil" and ended with "Helpless", both off their debut Lightning to the Nations, as they thought this would go down well with the Metallica fan base. However, Diamond Head had not been around for the majority of the previous decade and Metallica had covered both of these songs ("Am I Evil" was the B-side to "Creeping Death" and "Helpless" appeared on The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited), meaning much of the crowd believed that Diamond Head were covering Metallica songs. On top of this, their performance was deemed to be absymal, due to the pressure of playing live on MTV, the fact Tatler was suffering from shingles at the time[3] and that Diamond Head had almost no rehearsal time prior to the gig. Following this disastrous show, the band split up again and would not reform until 2000."
It really wasn't that bad. They had the age old problem of opening for what had become a massive stadium act. They were a bit lackluster, and clearly hasty (Drums were sound checked just before they went on) but Megadeth also had a very low-key performance that day. The UA-cam footage of them doing Symphony sounded a lot better than the PA mix.
I was there and I'd be really surprised if many thought that they were doing covers. They were pretty well-known at the time. If anyone had been buying Kerrang!, Metal Hammer or listening to Tommy Vance or Alan Freeman it'd be clear who Diamond Head were.
deliberate playing behind the beat - need a groove - Led Zeppelin played that way , so did AC/DC - doesn't have to be 4/4 'between the eyes' on the beat
Hastily put together band for the festival , yes as much as I like the powerful driving drum sound , yes it would be better if the drummer played behind too ; so you've got a groove and there's a pocket . The best example would be Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams in AC/DC . Also the sound isn't that good ? ? - Coverdale as the headlining act called the tune * apparently
Yes as I've said all over the place ? , Status Quo ( and yes I know ! ) in the 70s used to have the drummer playing bang on the beat with a bit of a swing , the bass player just behind and the lead and rhythm racing ahead . However you'd have to be very well rehearsed and tight from gigging - the music is pretty simple but if they weren't tight , it would sound terrible a bit like the out of tune punk bands in the 70s , great attitude and energy..but
Sean sounded really good.

Thanks for letting us know.
Anyone who thought that didn't know much about metal history.

The drummer's hair is ultra supreme death!!!
yea dude, you're absolutely right!
by the way, as far as you know does exist a complete vhs or dvd record of this dh gig?!?
Hey guys , most of the greatest songs we know in the 80/90 s era all came from this group but stolen from others and loads of covers............

My god that drummer has got some energy! And what the FUCK was sean harris doing @ 2:22 ?
Where they find that drummer and the Rex Brown Clone??
They needed a different different drummer. The bass player was in Three Colours Red I think, with the drummer out of Skyclad.
if you don't like this band you don't like metallica
Почему вы пишете в вокал Расмуса, когда исполняет Шон Харрисон, бездари
Просто ухов у некоторых людей нету)
This bass player sucks so bad. His timing is behind everyone.
It's what he went on to do that's arguably more important.

I was there one of the best days of my life
bass is TERRIBLE
Good sound from the Gibson Thunderbird Bass ?
