As a parent, you want your child to grow in school and in life, but do you know that being a good reader is a crucial part of this success? Yes, the department of education recognizes phonics as a key element that helps children become successful readers.
Deploying a phonics program at an early age can also help children develop culturally, emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Phonics, when taught for children in a structured way, starting with the easiest to the complex sounds, is the most effective way of teaching for them to read.
In order to understand what they are reading, children must be able to do it faster, without stumbling over words. Phonics education facilitates that process of learning.
    1. Sound to symbol recognition becomes faster:
A child who starts their reading journey with phonics tends to have excellent phonemic awareness, which is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate letter symbols with their appropriate sounds.
    2. Reading becomes better
The old saying “Practice makes perfect” ties well with phonics, as it is an important tool for children to develop reading skills. Over time, children are able to turn up into fluent readers, who can quickly recognize familiar words and sound out new words they encounter.
    3. Sounding out unfamiliar words is easier
Phonemic awareness helps children to sound out words easily, which they are not familiar with. Teaching phonics also allows children to find the regular patterns of words, and connect them for easier reading.
    4. Improves vocabulary and language development
Extensive reading leads in broadening a child’s vocabulary and general knowledge. Phonics allows children to develop their reading comprehension and also learn new words. With this, children are able to easily understand the overall meaning of words while they are reading.
    5. Become better spellers
When children are aware of phonograms and how to break a word into sounds, they are also able to spell correctly. Understanding the rules of the English language helps children in choosing the right phonics for the sounds they hear when writing.
    6. Builds patience and concentration
Most of the time while children practice reading, they are required to sit quietly so that they can focus on the task. This habit helps children become better by following a teacher’s instruction over time.
    7. Learn Syllable Structure
Children who learn phonics become more familiar with syllable structure, which characterizes how many consonants may occur before the vowel in a syllable, and how many after the vowel. Syllable structures become easier to understand through phonics education.
    8. Higher reading skills for better academic performance
With Phonics education, children become so active with their reading skills that promote achievement in other subjects as well. Children can also better grasp the knowledge in other subjects, across their school curriculum.
    9. Learn the rules of their language
In addition to learning all the phonographs, children are required to learn the rules of the English language.
Grasping the rules of a language helps students choose which phonics to use when they hear a sound.
Each and every child is an individual with their own learning style. Phonics education is a method that encourages children to recognize words and provides opportunities for extensive reading and creative writing.
Teaching phonics is a way of making reading fun and engaging for the child.
