The cut point is wrong! Clearly, where he draws the first line on the belt (3:11) it is only just long enough to go down one side, round the pulley and back to the other end of the track. He then cuts it 4 teeth shorter than that! There's obviously not enough belt left to go round the idler. At 7:10 there's an edit where he must fix his mistake but never mentions it. I'm glad I didn't blindly follow these instructions and measured it myself.
I don't care about the measurement. I just needed to know how to get the belt to connect while in the channel. I'm used to working on cars, where belts have idler pulleys.
