I tried gesso after watching one of your videos. Wow! What an improvement that made! Many thanks for that tip. Never again will I paint without gessoing the surface first
I bought 2 kits based on your video. I was disappointed as the paints were either dried up or All of the paints in one kit would not cover the lines and numbers and streaked. I emailed them.😑 The kits came from Australia in a fairly fast time line based on pandemic conditions. EDIT: after weeks of emailing, Paint Plot said they will replace both sets of paints.
I absolutely love doing adult paint by numbers. I started off buying them at Michaels. Pretty cheap with the coupon. I burned through every good one they had. I’ve even changed the background colors on a few by mixing paints. I have like a little studio set up in my dining room. Even went out and bought a big easel to make it easier. I can spend several hours a day painting. I really enjoy it. I cut my paint pots apart and line them up by number. I also take a larger square head brush and scoop all the paint of out the lid and put it down unto the container then tap it a few times on the table to settle it. When I paint I leave thicker portions and move on. I want the finished product to have texture for authenticity. If I’m working with the same number for an extended period of time I hold it while I paint and use my finger to close the lid between dipping. And when my paints seem a little thicker I put a couple of drops on top of the paint and swirl my brush on the sides to mix as I go.
My exact comment! It’s a whole new world.....one I’m anxious to join! Thank you Melanie, I would never have guessed this hobby could possibly have changed sooo much since I was a little girl. Cannot wait to start.
Hi, Melanie! Thanks for your videos 🧡 and I have a question for you. I am STILL on my first Paint by Number. (In trying to clean my readers (glasses) I found myself constantly cleaning the lens….after several weeks & noticing it was getting more & more dirty (was I to get all new readers?) I found an opthamologist who was also a diagnostician…she said after my exam, “Have you been taking steroids?” I said, 👍🏼 yes, how did you know? (I’ve been sick 1.5 years with some 8 different infections ~ sinusitis & now respiratory problems. She said steroids caused my cataracts ! I said “which ones?”.:without hesitation she said , “All of them”. My next stop is the surgeon. And while I’m better except for the respiratory part, my eyes 👀 are getting worse so (especially the left ) so I’m not able to paint long every day. The other side isn’t as bad..it just gets tired & strained so I have to quit. I want to finish my first painting. Still love ❤️ it. Question: I bought ALL your recommended brushes. How long are they supposed to last? They are fraying, some no longer form a tip (well lots to be truthful). Am I being to heavy handed? Am I not cleaning them well? I’ve been using your rubber pots with the discs in them…is that too hard on them? Am I loading too much paint on them? You know all the tricks …if you get time, I am here to learn from the best. Well wishes from my heart ❤️ to yours, my mentor.
I need help! I bought a table on legs and wheels. It tilts any way I want..so I tilted it so my neck won’t hurt from bending. But now my hand go tingly cos my wrist is bent slightly! I can’t win. What’s your advice to not hurt your neck or back when painting ? Thanks
Hi Gabrielle, if your paint is a little dry, we'd recommend flow aid or a drop of water mixed in to your paints. When you order from Paint Plot, if you do happen to run out of a colour, we send you more. I can't see an order number with your name however so I'd recommend reaching out to the website you purchased it from and requesting additional paint.
The Flow Aid is an absolute must. It makes the paint creamier without losing color opacity. Also, consider brushing the new, clean canvas with clear gesso before painting. It acts like a new base coat...paint glides smoother and it prevents those dry, empty spots from happening. Those 2 items make any painting more enjoyable and gives better results. Cheers

Glad I found this one with you on it & this looks more possible mixing the two together & have mid color! Ty
This was such a positive take on the whole process. Thank you!

How do I mix colors though?
HEY MEL!!!
If my paint is a little dry, what can I do? It is difficult to paint, it makes dry spots, and I don't have enough paint for all the zones.

@@paintplot179 Hi, I tried reaching the website where I bought my painting. Unfortunately, they don't sell paints separately. :(
@@gabrielleauclair254 sorry to hear that. We offer free paint refills at Paint Plot so next time take a look at our collection :)
I definitely will!
