I vividly remember driving over to Krell Industries (1982) with my brother-in-law to visit and see Krell amplifier product(s) when they occupied part of a building at North Plain Industrial Drive - Wallingford, CT. The trek to Wallingford from Plymouth, MA was under two hours but we arrived behind schedule and missed Dan D. He had to leave for an off-site meeting. My brother-in-law was a fanatic for high-end power amps.
Brilliant audio engineer ! Sadly, prices have gone through the stratosphere that only the top 0.001 % can afford. Miss the days of Krell by D'Agostino when it was still approachable.
@@artyfhartie2269 Nothing particularly personal, but I don't know how you get greed out of building a flagship product artyfhartie - same in any arena in the world today - whether it's building high end cars, planes, boats, houses - actually, I fly high end R/C stuff - crazy expensive, don't like it? Go buy a 250 dollar "foamie" that performs fantastically, but oh, wait, it's not a 5K high end aerobatic ship by any stretch of the imagination - that oh btw, still needs a high end transmitter to run it, a vehicle to get it to the flying field and all the rest that goes along with getting it into the air, maybe not 100's of K's but big bucks nonetheless, worth every cent too - my reference 600m's from Bel Canto sound amazing for the money, but like that foam model plane which can offer amazing performance, doesn't make them a Relentless or a Progression etc. It doesn't bother me at all that the D'Agostino stuff is generally out of range for me, again, personally, I like that they're there and offer me or anyone else where and what state of the art is in this hobby currently. So personally, I don't think it's fair to insinuate that Dan is "greedy". Huge mark ups? No doubt - - but they are a stand alone, unique product in their realm - you and I probably can't begin to imagine how much Dan has invested in his lifetime of designing products of this caliber, of course, as it should, the price tag reflects that.

For me the present production line from an aesthetical point of view is very top line Drag Queen/Transvestite act. The machining from a engineering point of view is really up their, top notch. And it's really good to see separate power supply units being used. Interesting..
I always enjoyed 80s and 90s Japanese audio systems ..... for me they are 110% ..... some of the greatest music systems ..... and i could afford that ... In this life don't think will be able to listen/experience one of these high audio systems .... really really don't know how these systems sounds like .... just wanna try once ....
Great interview.. never liked Krell sound.. during the 1990s.. used GAS power amps and felt they were more musical.. these new super expensive amps.. I can’t comment because never heard them..
Krell has always been about accuracy, power, and precision. GAS is an amp that works best when you're three joints into the night and that alters your perception, to make it feel better to you than it actually is. The GAS amps really aren't that great from a technical standpoint. Not bad but certainly not on the level of modern high end amps.
I have tears in my eyes and goosebumps... when I saw the price of this dream... it's clear that I will never buy this miracle in my life

Correct. Greed has opened its ugly mouth and swallowed everything

so what if only 0.001 % can afford? Work hard on your dream and you can do it one day! I work and don't complain.

Still have my KSA-59 I bought in 1987, good to see Dan doing so well.

I wonder how many drag actors can afford this gear. I guess the answer is “just the top few”, like anything else.

I should let it go, but what were Krell thinking.

James Bongiorno is great audio designer too👍😀

With headphones you can hear all the stuff Dan is mentioning.
Dave Hafler, Saul Marantz,Fisher, and others...created the industry....not hangers on like this marketeer
ask him whats the best speakers he heard
Hey Dan, what was that you posted about black Lives matter?
Did he say that they scam millions of cash for their own homes?
