Loven the Goos for almost 30 years now!!! New songs, old songs it's all great to me!!! Proudly I have shared the years with them and the maturing of their sound!!! They are the band that if you want to rock out and bang your head you can, if you want to feel loved and all fuzzy inside you can or if you just want dance around you can, they cover it all!!! That's talent that takes you through a lifetime!!! OH and did I mention THEY SOUND EVEN BETTER LIVE!!! That's what I'm talking about💞💋💞
Been listening to this band since the mid 90's and I truly believe their lyrics heal like no other. The best bands don't fuel toxic attitudes, and they don't only have to sing about happy things. The Goo Goo Dolls have the perfect balance. There is no music more relatable to me, to this day. When Boxes came out, I had gone through something that left me so hurt and lost I thought I'd never be fine again. I was trapped in that state for a year. Somehow, when I was listening to this song in 2016, it tapped directly into the part of me that felt abused and dried up. It just vibrated with my inner flame and suddenly I was full of warmth again - but I was also able to move on, and not just go back to being a tool. You'd think such a thing would be temporary but I feel like armor has stayed with me ever since. I can love some people from a distance now without suffering so much. My soul can bleed and I don't get angry any more because I love that part of myself now, instead of resenting it. I can honestly say I am a better version of myself because of this album. I just want to thank the artists responsible for being who they are and helping me and so many others. Stating the obvious here, but you can't write music like this without being an empath at the core and having been through a lot. Beautiful souls.
I like how clear John's voice is in the intro. I am psyched to hear the rest of the album. I know some fans here don't like their more recent sound. That's fine. But don't call them sellouts for maturing and evolving. John is 50 now, so naturally he's not as likely to sing about the mistakes and tragedies of a youth (Dizzy up the Girl covered topics like drug overdoses, overprotective parents, accidental pregnancy and abortion, searching for identify etc.) John remarried only a few years ago, and even released the beautiful "Come to Me," which surely must be an ode to his new wife. He's settled down, and more content with his life, and while he may get sad like we all can, the youthful angst is just not going to be there for most people by 50. You tend to become more contemplative, and your happiness is also less manic for most, but more strong and steady because it's (hopefully) based on strong relationships. Fans, please stop expecting an adult man to continue writing like he's 22! And I'd also like to point out after seeing them live throughout the years, and even having the pleasure of meeting them with a friend whose dad was on the crew, John never really seemed to like the "rockstar" gig. His disdain for the whole manufactured "sexy" and "cool" was present in the video for "Broadway." I hope the band loves their music from then still, even if it doesn't reflect their current feelings in life, but I'd bet that's when they at least felt the most like "sellouts." And now in more recent years John and the guys don't wear "sexy" rock star leather, eyeliner, etc. He seems more laid back, and comes off more genuine and content with his style.
+turbulentbeauty I expect to hear some of the songs that drew me in to them 20+ years ago. I paid good money for it and waited what seems like a lifetime to be able to experience them in person (August is my "D" day!! Woot, cant wait!)! While I appreciate them "evolving" = "dissolving" = "rebuilding" I want to hear Iris, Black Balloon, Long way down...feel me?
+Tracey d I know how you feel Tracey. I've been seeing them live since Boy Named Goo and oh how I love that album and Dizzy Up The Girl....them singing majority of those songs, but they have so much music in their catalog now gone are the days where they will focus on singing those particular songs. I was so ecstatic when they sang 'Lazy Eye' on their last tour....they've never performed that one live....so they will still throw us a bone and sing some of our favorites. I would love to hear him sing 'I'm Still Here' live one of these days.
You know, the Goo Goo Dolls were never the most unique or groundbreaking band ever, but there's always a sense of comfort when listening to them. Their late 90's and early 2000's material will always be classic, though.
+Jake Higgins With the crazy tunings and unique sound in the mid-late 90s and early 2000s, they were unique and groundbreaking... Now... Just pure pop trash... This is sad :(
We should all accept change!! This band has been evolving since day one!! This song is amazing from a songwriting point of view!! Every Goo Goo fan should be proud!!
John Rzeznik is the Real Deal! As he has said ' He's just guy in a band' His humbleness really comes through in these lyrics! Thanks for being You still til this day!
Been listening to them since the 90's... loved their music then and still love it, even the new stuff. This is the first time I have heard this song and I'm already in love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can relate to these lyrics-"you reach inside of me and then you pull the pin" since I feel soooooo deflated right now. It's a relationship dynamic whereby the person who loves you can either build you up or knock you down. Creative lyrics! 👍🙅💗
I have loved ALL the GGD's music since day one AND yes, even the "right now" stuff. I've "grown up" since they first started and so have John & Robbie. John has 2 months on me, so we're the pretty much the same age, I understand that their music has changed, it's called evolution. If you're looking for perfection, you're going to be a very unhappy camper in your life. What you should do is just roll with it, I figure my brain tumors give me a lil more "live each day to the fullest, stop bitchin about silly stuff and just enjoy life" kinda attitude or just relax, let the GGD's play their music and listen to it and let it take you somewhere happy.
It has to be tough being an artist; namely, a musician. Especially if you do it for a living. If you do the same thing, people get bored. If you do something different, they get angry. I think artists just need to be true to themselves and their craft and know that the true fans will appreciate and purchase it. I'm slowly digesting this album, and it has solid pop-sensibilities while maintaining a deep, personal feel. It's pretty good, man.
+Collin Brown: No one could have stated it better than you. I've often thought the same. Even as consumers, some of our own tastes change also so who's to say an artist isn't entitled to the same? We all change over time and different circumstances and experiences can change/affect us in different ways. I'm really loving this album😃
I've yet to find a Goo Goo Dolls song that doesn't wrench at my heart, after listening to them for over 15 years. Every single song is so soulful with such powerful lyrics. This is another fine example, well done Goo Goo Dolls.
love this album got my daughter into the Goo Goo Dolls....she is 44 so what does that tell you about generation gaps.....ha ha.....great music has no age barrier ......
I'm 18 now and I listen to GGD since I was 3 years old, with my sister I still remember of me trying to sing Naked even when I didn't even know the English language And your music keep evolving and getting better! Long live Goo Goo Dolls!!!
I have a brother who is 20 years my junior and he was the same way. He listened to them since he was 4 when Boy Named Goo came out. He grew up loving them just like you. He's 24 now.
ravenheadtx It is amazing the way that a band can walk with you for your whole life... How songs can get different meanings through your days My greetings to your brother! hehe He knows what's good! haha
Your words tell you why your on the rise again and always have been. No matter what. LOVE IS THE ANSWER BROTHERS! THANK YOU, SEE YA SOON, CAN'T WAIT!!!
The Pin has i dunno but there is just that special something about this song that makes it a standout in my mind and from the looks of it many other Goo Goo Dolls Fans understand when they hear it too.
People hate change. It's sad but that is just the reality of it. It's funny because bands always change their style and sound so it really should not come as a surprise. I wish people would be much more open and giving things a chance but this is just how it is.
If your here during the summer of 2021 the let me know because then you are beautiful and handsome and cool too. Let’s together get “ The Pin” more love and views
I honestly haven't heard much of The Goo Goo Dolls since "It's My Life" came out (my radio station got taken over by all the rap that started not long afterward, ergo, I stopped listening to the station/radio in general). I'm liking how this album sounds! (Iris will always be my favorite song, though) I can see people commenting that they keep changing their style; I don't think that's a bad thing. Keeping an audience is important, and music tastes change. If it suits them to change with the times, I say good for them! Your favorite food may be (whateveritis), but that doesn't mean you want to eat it every meal, every day for years (unless you're a special case, haha). I think it's the same with music; I don't think artists want to make the same thing all the time.

I love how every song on this new album seems to be something different

Your light makes me smile.😊.
Goo Goo Dolls remain to be as amazing as ever. Got to love them.

I think I could get that, I live in jamaica and therefore access to their shows is pretty limited
turbulentbeauty well said brother :)
He can sing about whatever is meaningful to him, but I don't like the new musical style.

Amen! 🙌
+Lewisland that's de-evolving man
I don't see any change, this is amazing as always ☼
+Floydandsome THEN YOU'RE DEVOLVING TOO THEN
Agree. Amazing song.
John Rzeznik is the Real Deal! As he has said ' He's just guy in a band' His humbleness really comes through in these lyrics! Thanks for being You still til this day!
this is a seriously good song.
John Strough yeah theres a vitality and sweeping quality to it, like a spiritual successor to Black Balloon
Been listening to them since the 90's... loved their music then and still love it, even the new stuff. This is the first time I have heard this song and I'm already in love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This song sounds like waves crashing in wave, unpredictable and graceful. I would like to drive to the ocean with this song cranked up on radio.
The goo goo dolls are like a good wine!, they get better with time.I like all the songs on boxes

You should see all the boxes where I am now. Our Lord is great in spite of all. 🤗
I've yet to find a Goo Goo Dolls song that doesn't wrench at my heart, after listening to them for over 15 years. Every single song is so soulful with such powerful lyrics. This is another fine example, well done Goo Goo Dolls.

I love it, the guitars sound amazing! My favorite so far, all these new songs are good and each are different.
saw them live in Allen Texas this song was so good LIVE
I caught one show in Nashville and another in Tunica, MS and this was one of the highlights both nights.
your words can lift me up or crush me to dust again. can’t tell if we are flying or falling to the end.
Very proud Johnny is amazing song writer praying for soul that he comes to faith in Jesus Christ.
Because believing in Jesus is the only thing that matters, right? ¬_¬
Shawn Elliott It's certainly the path to enlightenment.
There is no "path" to enlightenment. Enlightenment isn't something you work to achieve, it's something you allow to happen on its own.
I'm 18 now and I listen to GGD since I was 3 years old, with my sister
I still remember of me trying to sing Naked even when I didn't even know the English language
And your music keep evolving and getting better! Long live Goo Goo Dolls!!!
I have a brother who is 20 years my junior and he was the same way. He listened to them since he was 4 when Boy Named Goo came out. He grew up loving them just like you. He's 24 now.

goo goo dolls have a great way with words in this song.
Love the imagery of this album!
This song is amazing. Probably my favorite off the album. I don't know why 'Boxes' gets so much criticism. I think it's fantastic!!!
People hate change. It's sad but that is just the reality of it. It's funny because bands always change their style and sound so it really should not come as a surprise. I wish people would be much more open and giving things a chance but this is just how it is.
I totally agree. Awesome album. One of their better ones as of late.
