    Your videos are 10/10.
    I don't usually say that, but it's extremely detailed and straight to the point.
    Thanks

    Planning on installing it on my lancer as well, and if you don't mind me asking, I have a few questions regarding this mod before I pull the trigger.
    1. Is there play induced by the quickener that was not there prior to installation?
    2. How's steering feedback? Theoretically it should be better, but I've read somewhere that it eliminates it. Is this true?
    3. How did the steering quickener hold up? The video was posted back in 2018, so it's more than 2 years old with abuse from rallying. Did rotational play increase noticeably?
    4. Are there rebuild kits for the howe quickener - I can't see them posted anywhere. However I do see coleman quickeners have parts posted in their website.
    Thank you

    Im so glad we have RHD cars over here. I put a JDM Spec C rack in my car. Fastest rack Subaru make. Bolts straight in.

      That would have been great if I could have done that haha, I even had a 13:1 RA rack in my garage from when I got the swap stuff.

    Removing the ignition switch/column lock bolts is done mostly the same way you did. Factory uses torque to twist bolts that come in the package when new. They are normal type bolts but depending on the material and softer grade of bolt, they have a washer built in, yet the top is under cut in a “V” shape. This allow them to reach a predetermined torque then snap off. This is what you are seeing before drilling. I have replaced 4 or 5 in 45+ years as an ASE Master Tech. Just saying. If find the steering quickener interesting and must be a simple planetary gear set inside the housing. I can see the benefit for certain racing conditions and yes, would cause the pump to hit higher pressure more often. I would use an extreme version of a P/S cooler, perhaps with a fan. Just saying. This item is something 90% of car people have never heard of or seen. Nice job with the video! Liked...

    Hey cool Video,
    I'm just wondering is the collapsibility not removed when you welded and bolted the quickener the the outer column ?
    As it should be free to slide into it and now it cant?
    Thanks

    Did the same mod in our car, really awesome on loose surface driving, never need to do any hand-over-hand.
    Puts extra strain on the power steering pump it seems, we've had one fail on us so far.
    Have you considered that and found any aftermarket options? Haven't found any replacement PS options other than stock

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  5 років тому +1

      I only used it during Rallycross but it made a pretty huge difference. I had the EJ207 in it with the PS pump from the JDM car that ran a 13:1 rack so the pump seemed to keep up without any issue. I've heard of people running pumps from ej257s, running a cooler for the fluid since it can get hot on tight courses and I saw someone who enlarged the fittings going into the pump for a higher flow rate.
      My stock PS pump probably will need to be modified once I throw the Ej251 back in.

      Use a automatic transmission radiator if it's a manual. Plumb the power steering fluid through where the auto tranny fluid would cool.

    How has the mod held upover the last almost 2 years?

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Still works great and has held up to a lot of abuse. I did add another gusset to the mount ,since it had some flex in the column, but that was a few weeks after I installed it and I haven’t touched it since.

    What would happen if this part was installed in the opposite direction? Tks.

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  4 роки тому

      it would slow down the steering by quite a lot, it would go from the stock 3.4 turns lock to lock to around 5.2 turns lock to lock

    Have you driven this steering shaft on stage? does it feel way too twitchy at faster speeds?

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  Рік тому +1

      I’ve been running it for the four years since I did it, done three stage rallies, some rally sprints, and rallycross. It’s been great and I like how it feels, definitely not twitchy or too fast. It does make the steering heavier but I only notice at very slow speeds.

    How does it feel over 80mph? Is it too twitchy for freeway driving?

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  4 роки тому

      It isn’t twitchy at all with the 1.5 quickener, it probably would be with the 2:1 quickener though. It feels a lot like my Miata with how quick the steering is.
      I’ve had the car up to 110 on dirt during the last rally and it still felt very stable and behaved fine, but a lot of that had to do with having a good alignment.

      @@DirtyGarage gotcha man thanks! i was debating going with a power steering conversion (manual mr2) but i really just want a tighter steering feel. 3.5 turns without PS, so im sure it would probably get me to the number of turns you got now :)
