    Just what I was looking for, as I'm slowly getting more dissatisfied with my Dunlop nylons.
    I'm going to test some of these out in case I manage to find them. Thanks a lot for the in-depth comparisons!

    The .50 Claytons work great when I shave down a bit of the edge on the concrete stair as suggested by Gerry O'Connor, but this video has me wanting to hit the store and try more!

    Thanks, Enda! I can indeed hear big differences in sound. And l've certainly noticed the what you call 'roundness' when playing my mandolin with a thicker 1.0 Wegen mando pick. To me it's a subdued sound, unique, 'dark' and not bright/chirpy like others that are thinner.
    I like both types of pick sound. Heck, currently l'm playing the very thin stock picks that JustStrings gives away with their strings, and l love 'em.

    Great video! I personally have gone from worrying about picks to worrying about different string gauges. I feel like the changes in tone and how you have to play are more drastic between different strings than picks for whatever reason.
    Would love a video comparing string gauges and to hear your thoughts on them, but that obviously involves a lot more annoyance in between comparisons! Haha.

    Great video but just a suggestion, perhaps you could where a collar mic or something your voice volume is very low and washed out when the volume is set so that the banjo isn’t too loud. It’s hard to hear what you’re saying, at least for me

    I've got on best with Dunlop Tortex Wedge 0.50 so far. I like the sharper tip and increased grip area. Very useful to have some others to compare as I'm still trying different picks and only been playing a couple of years. Do you think the player likely makes a difference - weight of hand / arm / musculature? I'm a sleight female and find the heavy picks require maybe more forceful movement than I use.

    Hi, I think the sound is also greatly influenced by the position of the plectrum: how far under the strings you play. And also if the plectrum is pointed or rounded.

    • @IrishTenorBanjo
      @IrishTenorBanjo  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely. I played all of these picks at largely the same distance and level of touch to demonstrate the o in differences

    I really like the Jim Dunlop flow picks. I usually use a very thick pick on mandolin (>1mm) but when playing Irish tenor banjo in my band I use the flow picks. The .73 is very comfortable for me, but I get better sound with the .6. I don't know if it's my American playing style or if I'm gripping the pick too hard, but I feel like I wear them out so fast and they get too floppy. Do you go through picks very fast? Or should I change my technique a little bit. Would love a .66mm haha
