Amazing how obvious the different personalities are in each of them! Just dreading how many will get bought & dumped after the next Red Dog movie : ( These dogs are not for inexperienced owners!
In comparison to the harsh conditions of the outback, this is a great day for the sheep. You also pick subservient sheep for this purpose as opposed to wilful rams who might hurt the dogs. The whole point of this is to teach the dogs how to get the sheep from one field (usually low in food) to the new field (lots of food). The dogs are the sheep's friend in this instance.
This is dickish. When the dogs are fully grown they will naturally not fear the sheep. You are wasting your time and pissing off the sheep for no reason.
Hi Derek, Kelpies are working dogs: they are supposed to be working the sheep and bringing them out of the paddocks (hills) into the yards or shearing shed when they need to be shorn or drenched. These sheep are used to dogs and the dogs don't hurt the sheep. If we teach the dogs correctly, they will work the sheep in a calmly manner so the stock isn't stressed but will still go where we want them to go. We start teaching the pups young so when they are older they know what to do.
So this is how they end up running on the top of sheeps! Amazing!
When i start to miss Australia I return to this video - love the positive vibes!
Would you like a training rake sent over 😉
@@olivegrove2615 Haha - a rake from Bunnings with a sausage sanger - spot on!
Great video! Very informative. Love seeing them all balancing off you by the end.

I feel rather sad for the sheep.
They’re fine. They have a good relationship with the working dogs.
Poor sheep!!

Don't show the puppies any livestock until they're about 1 years old. That my friend is how you hone razor sharp Instinct in a cattle dog.
Really?
So good to know. You’re obviously an expert. I’m going to change my training style now. Thanks.
