Not sure a labor of love, if you ask the workers in the 1940 equipped Ural factory. More like a labor of necessity for minimum wage! How much of the $17,000 does he get?
MrEye4get They didn’t make money, I just talked to my great uncle, he has a URL’s with a sidecar like this one, 5 weeks old, they payed them with bouillon cubes at one point. I’m not even kidding.
I bought a new Ural sidecar ages ago . The carbs went in the bin to be replaced by Amals from Birmingham .The engine needed rebuilding by 3,000 miles .All the screws had off centre slots .The slack between nuts and bolts meant I had to coat all the threads with Golden Hermetite (remember that ?).But It ran reliably for 5 years until we sold it and bought a nice Renault 16 .
No wonder these things are so overpriced, fall apart so easily. Terrible workflow, no assembly line to speak of, a clank with a hammer here, a tap there. This sidecar literally takes twice as long to weld together as it ought to. This Trabbant tier vehicle building..
A soon to be a lost art. As of March 2022 factory production suspended due to the Ukraine war & sanctions. No more Ural sidecars this year (besides the ones already shipped). Just think what robots can do if they are assembled in the USA ??
Ural have been around since the 1940s... Did you think the sanctions would stop them? Just like in Ww2 they would move the factory rather than shut down. That's exactly what they have done. Moved to Kazakhstan where they can sell Urals again without the petty sanctions
One of my neighbors just drove by on a new Ural w/sidehack and I told him about this video. One of my favorites!
The real deal, hand crafted, built solid ,tough last for years easy to fix
lovin the shop/ home made hammer.

I LOVE IT URAL .
If that was in black & white I would have said 1939. Ah Russia you are something special.
I see a lot of hammer work involve!! HIT HARDER, MAKE IT FIT!! Same goes for the piston to cylander tolerances!!
I pick my 2014 Ural Gear-Up in a little over a week.

Preferable to fiberglass to be sure. I would rather have real-deal-steel. Thanks.

Amals would be considered a downgrade with what's on a Ural these days
made by hand better than made by chinese machines!!!

whats the song?
That's awesome
Pity they can't source some quality crank bearings which don't self destruct and fuck up the engine.

Thanks for that video. It's nice to see the fine people that built my favorite bike ever.
Wow I love watching how my Ural was made.
Awesome Vid. Thanks
I can feel my soul.
every Ural owner needs to go on Ural powered pilgrimage to the IMZ factory in Irbit at least once in their lives... I know I will...
Everything fits given a large enough hammer
Bravo, MAESTRO!!!!!!!!

Old schuul. Uraltastic.

AMADA IRBIT
Got to love the way the old guy tack welds the panel with the mig welder. No welding helmet needed.
