Question: looks like this frog is pretty infected with thrush.... if that isn’t seriously treated and killed how is anything else going to improve? I’m glad to see you did a treatment at the end but shouldn’t you have emphasized that one treatment isn’t enough to resolve the current issue? I had no idea that thrush didn’t have to smell or have black gooey stuff to be considered chronic thrush.... chronic thrush is evidenced by the crevice in the central sulcus and a fissure going up from the sulcus up towards the Pastern....
Don't own a horse. Don't like mud. Don't know if this is the right or wrong technique. Why then am I obsessed with "trimming the frog" videos? I think this is my ASMR fix.
why such a long video, and you didnt do the copper sulfate right. hows it supposed to stay put..shoulda mixed it with vaseline o water at the very least
If you put a liquid antifungal on first - Tea tree oil is excellent, or just turpentine, THEN put the powder on and it will stick and stay put and work longer 😊👍
Hi Becky The word frog for the V-shaped part comes from the german „frosch“ which not only means the animal frog but also the formation when 2 paths/ways are leading into one in a v-shape. Thats why it got called frog/frosch in the horses hoof. This is not the best video, dull tools no routined/correct work. S&S Blacksmiths do a good job on youtube :)
I get that this uploader probably doesn't spend much time on youtube. However, as a frequent viewer, I am sick of the same royalty free music. Especially this song.
@@bmc06239 ok... but one could say which came first the chicken or the egg? Isn't it possible that a horse with normal heel width could get contracted due to obtaining a bad thrush infection though? Or does that not happen?
@@mariroberson-soranch1476 i think in most cases the contraction comes first, the central sulcas is forced closed creating a pocket and oxygen free area in which thrush can thrive. spreading the heels opens this pocket to air, killing the anerobic bacteria (thrush). treating the thrush without fixing the heels will not solve caudal hoof pain or prevent thrush from returning.
Bryan Rasmussen I agree. It’s a shit knife. He goes near whit knuckled just to use it. That knife should have blasted through the frog like a hot knife through butter and it should have been able to dig out the dead sole with minimal force.
billbo baggins no no! Sorry, I was unclear. I meant that the people complaining about the knife should sharpen it themselves. Sorry for the miscommunication

Why do so many farriers leave the frog closed in the heel. What job security it says right here little rock or come on muck and mud.
This I so satisfying I love it you did a great job
Wouldn't trimming the heals back help? Or am I missing something!

I have a question why is that part of the hoof called the frog

Don't like it, don't watch it... enough complaining people in the world as it is.
The knifes are always dull,
Knives
idiots
Miss Piggy: that’s not how I trim my frog 🐸
Your mom
Primero que le saque filo al cuchillo o lo que utilice para cortar eso
E visto en otros vídeos donde se corta muy bien y este man no corta ni la madre
Probably not the best frog to do a frog trimming video.
pq tem que cortar?? começa a machucar o animal??
E pra colocar ferradura e nao doi e igual cortar as unhas
What are you doing sir-
Haber si afila las herramientas por queadreia
(5:05) heels are contracted, being pulled forward by the bar distortion and long toe...you did nothing to fix it...sad
bmc06239 heels are contracted due to chronic thrush in the frog...
@@mariroberson-soranch1476 thrush is result of contracted heels...not the cause of.

@@bmc06239 that does make sense. Vicious cycle.... ;0(
대단한 일을 하시네요
Making a mess of the frog. Needs reshaped. Farriers really.know what to do.not a job for amatures. Thrush on frog. Needs a horse shoe.
That frog need not be pointed and it's way too long... Sharpen your knife... Wth

@@t.r.sjbear4382 yes, I agree with you 100%

billbo baggins such a shame. I wish people could just appreciate what’s in front of them without making any complaints
