Love the podcast. Only thing I don't like is the tendency to highlight basically 10 players in every one of these draws. It took Andy about 7 months last year to realize Paolini is any good. The 2 biggest movers in the ranking this year I believe will be Kessler and Putinseva. Both have massively improved over the last year. Putinseva will be borderline top 10 at the end of the year. Kessler is a very interesting player to watch and very talented. She won her first 250 late last year and is in the final this week. She'll make a big move. I also expect Anca Todoni at some point to move up quite a few spots. I think Keys is the biggest sleeper of this tournament. Obviously, we know how she plays. A lot of people will say she's overrated and an underachiever. At times though, she finds it and is lights out. She's been serving massively this week and has had prolific ball striking. If she returns well this week, she's a dog only to maybe Gauff and Sabalenka and even those would be winnable matches for her. She'd be a favorite over Iga. Simple. The US Open and the AO have a reciprocal arrangement whereby the winner of the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge in the US gets a wild card to the AO, and vice versa. Basavareddy won the Challenge, so he got the WC.

Mens draw discussion: a lot made sense (Shelton probably an early exit somewhere e.g.) but obviously the Korda take bij JW is simply delusional. Also they glossed over Medvedev and the Fritz match-up. That's an interesting match to see because of several reasons, one is that Medvedev lost the last time, he usually learns from that, changes things up and could be a good clash. In stead there was a long talk about Fritz' rise. They could have gone deeper into the potential Djokovic-Alcaraz match-up: how will that play out on this court at this stage of their careers? In stead they talked too lengthy about Fritz, Korda, Di Minaur. Wish we would have heard some more on the (actual) interesting storylines that could develop.
Re: Medvedev, he's been awful lately, BUT if he goes as far as the quarterfinals (which I believe is unlikely, what with lack of time to adapt to Australia on top of the rest of his problems), anyway IF he's capable of reaching the QFs, he'll be a threat to Fritz. Either you have him go out early or you consider his math vs. Fritz seriously.
@isabellemartin9779 he has a favourable draw though. Who do you think knocks him out? I think he will grow into the tournament, the first two rounds should get him into gear (I think). And he is intelligent enough to turn things around.

Glad to see y’all are catching on to Nishesh Basavareddy, but let’s get the facts straight, Mr 60 Minutes. He’s from Carmel, Indiana, not SoCal. (Learner Tien is from SoCal. Perhaps you confused them?) Nishesh was not taking engineering classes at Stanford a few weeks ago. He took the fall semester off so he could play Challengers. And you missed the most interesting storyline of the matchup with Novak: he is Nishesh’s favorite player, and he modeled his game after his, which should be obvious if you actually watched any of his matches. (Karue Sell, Gill Gross and others have said the same thing.) I don’t know of any other player whose game style is so close to Novak’s, and it should be really interesting to see how Novak responds to a mini-me across the net, if Nishesh is able to get over his nerves and play his game. And don’t sell Learner short. He has a really interesting and unusual game style, and the potential matchup in the second round against Medvedev, whose own style is so unique, would also be must watch. And the most interesting thing about Learner is that even though nothing seems to stand out about his game, still he just wins, over and over and over again. He beat Fils, Michelson and Mensik in the NextGen, losing only to Fonseca. And head to head he has the clear advantage over Nishesh. So looking forward to seeing the next phase of both their careers in 2025!
He lost early in argentina and got injured after playing for a minute in Rio. He rolled his ankle. In any case that doesn't count because there are two M 1000 tournaments played on hard courts before the clay season. Transition from one surface to another takes time.

Wouldn’t we all love to have JW’s job - call in with utter nonsense and still get a check at the end of the day. I hope he was smoking something or else I would be concerned about his mental capabilities
IF Medvedev finds enough form to reach the quarters he'll be a threat to Fritz. He could lose early but dismissing him in the quarters is nonsense IMO.
I'd say in the womens draw, Zarazua would make it to Paolini and that would be an interesting match to watch....the uber likable Italian winning over the Mexican. Otherwise...can't argue with picking Sabalenka and Sinner. That said, JW's point about how even something as bankable as Curry's accuracy over consecutive free throws is absolutely right and thanks for not cutting that out...but then you also have him and his 3 pointers doing things like at the Olympics, destroying a country's hopes in a matter of a few minutes. 😴🛌
That Cam Williams tool said this was a 'tough draw' for Sabalenka and Gauff. Looks like a cake draw until the 4th rd for both. Maybe two-three really competitive matches. Maybe. Surprised some by the pick of Tauson over Noskova.
My take on Korda who used to be my favorite - super talented, has all the tools to make it big, but… mentally weak. Cant handle the pressure of the weekly grind and this translates to injuries. Somatization….
Paul is a great player and will accomplish a lot - that's for sure. The guy is rock-solid. But this JW saying Korda is going deep into the final? Wishful thinking (to be kind). Korda does not have 1/10 of the talent, guts and determination Paul has. If US has a strong player to root for, his name is Tommy Paul. Well above Fritz (my humble opinion).
Jon spreading misinformation about Zverev. He had a biceps injury and elbow niggles. Annoying when you just spread false infos and even admit you do not know what you are talking about. Great work ethics for a supposed journalist.
So you've spent the last two weeks dragging Kyrgios through every mill you can find - and now you say he's really great to go to the third round? Come on. You've done your best to destroy him. Follow it through.
Sometimes it is more illuminating to watch predictions from betting shows like “Betting weekly studios”, than shows such as this with nothing at stake. JW - fire his ass
The only thing I could ever criticise about this podcast is its bias towards US American players. True, their level has improved with players like Fritz and others, but there's clearly and statistically better countries in level and other favourites. I'm happy to be proven wrong.
Andy, if you get a chance, could you address whether you think these exhibition “practice matches” - as opposed to playing traditional tune-up tournaments - is god or bad for tennis and the top players.
Novak needs to win this so Murray can say he's won the AO. Honestly think he will be red faced, steam erupting from his ears, swearing at Novak on court if this does not occur - considering everything.

lol I’d love to see Andy Roddick and Nikola Aracic do a pod or short video together
How the f can you blank over Medvedev like Fritz can’t loose to him. No doubt Medvedev is the faverite
IF Medvedev finds enough form to reach the quarters he'll be a threat to Fritz. He could lose early but dismissing him in the quarters is nonsense IMO.
AO is super hard to predict because most top players have not competed since Nov. Only during the Fed and Djoko era it was easy to predict.
My take on Korda who used to be my favorite - super talented, has all the tools to make it big, but…
mentally weak. Cant handle the pressure of the weekly grind and this translates to injuries. Somatization….
Love the podcast, this is great fun... But JW's take is insane (also, the idea he should comment on anything WTA for a bit is a bold choice...)
Tommy Paul will take it home for us all
Paul is a great player and will accomplish a lot - that's for sure.
Shelton/Nakashima is a diabolical first round draw
Korda has not won a set against Alcaraz in almost 3 years.
korda 😂 next joke
Jon spreading misinformation about Zverev. He had a biceps injury and elbow niggles. Annoying when you just spread false infos and even admit you do not know what you are talking about. Great work ethics for a supposed journalist.
Korda over alcaraz and zverev. 😂😂😂😂😂 that cant be serious
well, if JW is right and Korda reaches the final, hats off to him. IMHO, maybe a 3 percent chance for Korda to make the final...
So you've spent the last two weeks dragging Kyrgios through every mill you can find - and now you say he's really great to go to the third round? Come on. You've done your best to destroy him. Follow it through.
It’s like they want to be critics and apologists at the same time. He is a loser , call him out on it and follow through on the picks as well
Sometimes it is more illuminating to watch predictions from betting shows like “Betting weekly studios”, than shows such as this with nothing at stake. JW - fire his ass
36 minutes in for Andy to say he thinks the #1 seed will beat the #2 seed 😂
The only thing I could ever criticise about this podcast is its bias towards US American players. True, their level has improved with players like Fritz and others, but there's clearly and statistically better countries in level and other favourites. I'm happy to be proven wrong.
I wouldn’t say it is the only thing that is bad , JW is terrible in general with his inane predictions
C’mon Navarro and Keys???
Sebastian Korda lol
The curse is back, and this time, it is double. 🤘🌶⚙
I've had two bets. £20 double on SInner and Sebal. And I thought I'd jump on the JW crazy train and backed Korda for £10 at 360/1.
Looks like they commonly ignored the ranking/seeding in their picks. Not wise. Theres a reason the bookies nearly always win
Andy, if you get a chance, could you address whether you think these exhibition “practice matches” - as opposed to playing traditional tune-up tournaments - is god or bad for tennis and the top players.
I don't think Keys will get so far given she is playing tomorrow Adelaide final.
I actually have Keys in my final as well
My view - Novak wins AO. Might sound crazy but I will never bet against the Big 3.
Novak needs to win this so Murray can say he's won the AO. Honestly think he will be red faced, steam erupting from his ears, swearing at Novak on court if this does not occur - considering everything.
Lol, anyone here after Korda's exit? No? I'm wondering if John has finally realized how ridiculous his prediction was...
28:32 "Can we talk about a sport that is asking it's TOP TEN player to travel on Christmas day?"
You mean like the NBA asking Lebron and Curry? Or the NFL asking Mahomes? Does Jon even watch other sports?
america sold its soul for money many a moon ago, major world sports have integrity, for the most part. Football (Real football) never plays on Christmas day in any country around the world.
Like to hear more about the reasons why Sinner is chosen over Alcaraz.
