Thank you! I have been playing for 15 years holding my bow with a tense pinky and thumb, and none of my violin teachers caught it. I didn't realize it was a problem until I started performing more and I get pain in my right fingers, up my elbow, and into my shoulder. Now I'm stuck correcting a problem I've been doing consistently for 15 years! The rubber bands really help out, though, along with my right hand/bow exercises for strengthening those fingers.

Agnes.....please search for my video on "the importance of thumb leather".....it will give you some awesome ideas beyond the rubber band tip. If you get some "vio-tech" foam, or surgical tube or something on your bow.....and you tweak it to EXACTLY what your hand needs.....your pain will disappear and you will conquer bad habits much more quickly!!!

I've seen the bow buddies, and I am in favor of ANYTHING that can help! Of course you are aware those are just the training wheels, and have to come off eventually. Same with the rubber bands....just temporary to help you develop a great, balanced, relaxed, stable bow hold! Good luck!

I LOVE that idea of the hot glue with a pinky impression in it. (as long as you don't burn yourself, or your bow is not terribly expensive!)

A little dot of glue form a glue gun at the rear of the bow helped me a lot. When the lue was cooling, I dipped my pinky in for a second to create a dent just right and comfortable. To build up the lthumb leather, I use so called vulcanising rubber tape. This tape sticks only to itself, not to the bow or the leather. It gives good grip and is very durable.

Genius fix. I got really comfortable with this fix. Should I be concerned that I might not be able to play without rubber band if I keep using it during my play time?

No, I would not worry at all about keeping it on. Use it as much as you need, and just make sure your bow hold is proper, i.e. bent pinky, bent thumb, relaxed, not drifting up the stick. If you need to keep the band on the bow, do it! I'm glad it helped you!
