This one appears to have large rear wheels. It has never ceased to amaze me how a cleaner which was always, always advertised as being so lightweight has the tiniest of wheels, making it really hard to move over a lot of carpet types. I have an XL model, bought it for a tenner on facebook...it cleans ok and is very easy to lift, but it's hard to push which makes the handle bend where the rectangular part of the handle is attached to the circular tube / dust chute. The inner plastic parts of the soft bag also have sharp edges which press against the paper bag, and in the past have eventually pierced the paper bag. I also knew of someone who had a version from the early 1990s and the paper bag in hers was forever being blown off into the soft bag. Thus, dust would be blown everywhere from the damn thing - it was made worse by the fact she had two cats, therefore a lot of hair and dander would be distributed too.
Back in the late 1990s when I worked in the Co-Op showroom, one of our 'regular' elderly clients had mentioned her desire to purchase a new vacuum cleaner every time she came into our store to buy something else. This went on for at least two years, and on each occasion I'd spend time showing her the latest cleaners, all of which were 'too heavy'. Anyway, this one day I said to her "Mrs Sedgwick, have you decided on a vacuum cleaner yet?", to which her eyes lit up as she informed me she was about to order an Oreck. Well, after all the time I had invested in the subject over the years, I wasn't having a bar of that, so immediately drew her attention to the new Dyson DC03 range. She tried one out and purchased it on the spot, returning at a later date to tell me it was "first class" [sic]. I think hers was the second of about four DC03 sales that we ever made. They weren't popular.

Multi-tool #72591-01 from Oreck is used to lock and unlock the outer rear wheel hub assembly giving access for belt change etc. Some long nosed pliers used carefully can achieve the same effect. The multi tool is also used to slacken/tighten up the dirt tube collars.
As you say the build quality of these later TTI machines leaves much to be desired.
Some folk love them because they feel incredibly light and perform pretty well on most carpets.
However the facilities are limited in respect of any other jobs most similarly priced vacuums could normally achieve - hard floors, dusting & above floor cleaning remain pipe dreams.
We find the noise irritating too, not always that noisy per se, just very irritating.
We love the design and look - an improvement in our eyes over the XL types.
We hope the delightful Mumsie enjoys her new purchase.
    👍
Sorry to other commenters if we've duplicated info - it has been very hot and we've had a few limoncellos straight from the freezer cos we needed to make some space 🍋🍋🍋

What a find! I really like these newer Orecks. So simple, effective and light. And I saw that you still have AEG/Electrolux Ultraone with the powerhead. Nice!

Just as an FYI, the Magnesium came as an upgrade over the more modern XL21 series of machines, which were a modest but significant upgrade over the older XL models. Most modern home Orecks are XL21 based, and the commercial models are XL based.

The white ring that has lock/unlock gives access to belt according to service manual

Yes I found that out too, but only on the left hand side of the machine when stood upright and looking down on it from behind. It removes the outer "track" to reveal the belt. I think you might have to use some long nose pliers to get into two of the 6 small holes in the grey outer hub, and turn that hub to the unlock position. Oreck has a special tool to do that, but pliers can be used to improvise.
I think the other side of the machine can be locked and unlocked too to remove the other outer track, but it does not reveal any belt obviously.

Had one and gave it away. I like the look but the functionality just wasn’t there for.

If these were priced nearer the £200 mark (or maybe lower) I'd imagine Oreck would still be here in the UK.
