That everyone was laughing and joking going into the meeting, but once informed the target was Bin Laden, they immediately went silent and got serious. EDIT: Thanks for all the upvotes guys. This kind of thing really points out how important individual personalities can be in our world. So, this planning ability and charisma are the deadliest weapons of all?
I think the description and importance of the city of Abbotobad is more than a bit understated. It is the home of two military institutes (like West Point). It isn’t just a random town. It is not unreasonable to think the isi knew of Bin Laden’s presence long before the raid. In fact, it’s pretty unlikely they didn’t know he was there.
@Todd how could they not know ? He was living there peacefully for quite some time & it's barely 2 hours drive from military headquarters, there are military training institutes there & a number of important army people live there. Fact is they knew it very well & they hid him purposefully to use him as a bargaining chip to get some more money & weapons from the USA. They made a fool of the USA & I don't think the USA minds it. They have plenty of money to throw at Pakistan & Pakistan loves free money 💰. If they get another chance, they will repeat it all over again, supporting & harbouring terrorists is part of their state policy, it's an undeniable fact. USA still provides 100s of millions of dollars worth of military hardware to Pakistan for fighting terrorism inside their country, I can bet you a gazillion dollars that this fight will go on forever because they are just pretending to do it for money. They will take money from you, they will take money from China, Saudi & from anyone who can spare a few million dollars - it's the best way to survive 😅
He was literally given shelter by ISI. That's the job of that organization, to provide monetary, logistics and manual labour support to any kind of terrorist activities

its sad that people gobble up this propaganda without any critical thinking skills and thinks its all fact like little children believing in santa clause and the easter bunny and unicorns
There is no mention in this video of how the US trained the mujahidin to fight and equipped them for the war in Afghanistan. There are remenants of literal US bases in Pakistan where the potential talibs were brought in and trained to fight against the Soviets across the border.
I remember reading that the "hazardous airflow conditions" that grounded the first chopper were in fact caused by the helicopter downdraft deflecting back off the walls of the compound. This was not anticipated due to use of chain link fence instead of actual walls for sections of the compound training mockup.
THERE IS NO GOD BUT ALLAH THE QURAN IS THE BOOK OF ALLAH SURAH IKHLAS In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Say, He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent
as the first helicopter landed inside the high walls, proximity to the high walls caused the "vortex ring" effect, in which rotor downwash, pushed downward and away from the rotors, recirculated to a position above the rotors, causing loss of lift.
Nah we don't need to know about pakistan other then they had this guy chilling there while there is a mass hunt for him to end this war simple, that is why when people mention pakistan its always "that's the country that had Osama living in".
No its not! Read my autobiography when it is published. It was more like "Men who stare at goats." Than "Zero Dark Thirty" Truth is stranger than fiction. More than you'd care to believe.
I thank you for conveying the methods used in tracking down the mass murderer ObL. One key clue that should be reminded to all helicopter trainees, is that the training facilities for simulating the Abbottabad compound was to use chain link fences to simulate the 12-18 foot cinderblock walls. In this scenario, helicopter downdraft, which allows the lift to the chopper can dissipate the air-blast, while the actual compound's cinderblock reflected the downdraft-upwards, counteracting the lift capabilities of the descending aircraft, causing it to crash land, brilliantly controlled by the pilot realizing his aerodynamic error too late. No casualties happened in his crash landing, which was miraculous, and an engineering warning to all future helicopter pilots against trying to land inside a walled enclosure! Remarkable job for the Seals, for the pilots, for the President Barack Obama and his Cabinet teams, and certainly McRaven, in charge of Seal 6, nerves of steel!
I remember reading that it was also because the heli that they had made stealth caused it to have a little less lift than it would in normal configuration
@@fancy_panda_69 I think that building a cinderblock mirror image enactment would tip off any surveillance eyes of the intended target. Having said that, yes, it was a glaring oversight, happens everywhere, all the time. Murphy's Law #6, Nature sides with the hidden flaw!

@@mercedesbenz3751 There was no evidence he was being protected by anyone. He was the most sought-after man in the world. According to the Bin Laden files captured at UBL's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, he was very conservative about how many hours his family spent outside within the compound and would have his grandchildren accompanied and supervised by adults. He would only send others out of the compound for emergencies, such as retrieving supplies and medicine. They grew their own food and livestock, and they were very self-sufficient. According to the Obama Administration and the Pentagon, there was no evidence that anyone within the Pakistani establishment, knew where Bin Laden was hiding or who was protecting him. UBL was very paranoid.
Calling him a "Mastermind" is quite a stretch. Strapping bombs on religious nuts and pointing them in a general direction doesn't require much planning.
The fact that shocked me the most was OBL's hideout and it's close proximity to the Pakistani Military base in Abbottabad city. The US used satellites to monitor OBL's villa for people living inside from the top, they saw there were two to three women but only two men going and coming out of there. In Pakistani culture it's rare for such a family system which the CIA knew of very well. Women are not left to live with someone other than their spouses or parents. The CIA realized there could be one more person hiding inside at all times. They gathered more information only to find out the house didn't have an internet connection either and was quite weird in so many ways. They used fake medical teams to visit the mansion and make sure it's someone from Al-Qaeda that's living there. But when they planned to attack the mansion straight from Bagram Airbase Afghanistan, it's most advanced choppers straight out of Area 51 that weren't detected by the Pakistani radars, or should I say wouldn't have been detected by any radar in the world. For that very reason, the US Commandos detonated the chopper that got hit by strong winds and crashed to the ground. To save the new technology from being re engineered by the Pak Army, they used detonators on the crashed chopper before taking the other chopper back to Afghanistan. However, the blown up skeleton was still carried out of there by the Pakistani army and they are probably still trying to re engineer it considering the number of advanced technologies there are to handle such objects. I have a feeling Pakistan may have recreated it or figured out how the stealth technology works. And will be used for espionages in the future if not war itself.
15:42 When the helicopter flew into the mansion's compound why didn't the people in the mansion hear any of the helicopter roter spinning sound? It's hard to believe that kind of level of quietness until the guards and the armed fighters inside the mansion didn't hear anything at all.
@@michaelg4158 usually they do but these were technologically the 'quiet type' that the USA still hides in Area 51. We know it exists but no one knows how it actually works in stealth mode.

The main reason you don't have a lot of information to go on regarding the search for bin laden in his last years is entirely due to the fact that everything was off the books, if you wanted to know anything about how we knew where bin laden was and were coordinating an attack for a really long time, you would have to talk to somebody that was on the inside.

Sometimes these guys make mistakes on the simplest of things. When he told that the seal team on this raid had their command transferred to the cia for the duration of the mission, that was correct and all good. But… then he goes on to explain that because of that these “soldiers” would technically not be under the command of the “army” for the mission. Last I checked seals aren’t soldiers and they aren’t in the Army. The men flying the helos were army from the 160th special operations aviation regiment but I believe that’s it for army personnel on that mission.

The fact that Obama didn’t give Bin Laden the Mussolini treatment should be alarming yet no one ever brought that up
I thank you for conveying the methods used in tracking down the mass murderer ObL.
I would have thought about kicking up dust like Desert One
I remember reading that it was also because the heli that they had made stealth caused it to have a little less lift than it would in normal configuration

There’s a serious error in this. Bin Laden’s radicalization didn’t arise from the Gulf War, it came from witnessing the carnage of the Israeli bombing of civilian areas in Lebanon. He’s written about this extensively, including prior to the Gulf War.

@@majorskies7091 why would pakistan train terrorists?
They say it just hit the ground, it didn't explode. That doesn't makes more sound than the rotors on it, or does it?
@@michaelg4158 usually they do but these were technologically the 'quiet type' that the USA still hides in Area 51. We know it exists but no one knows how it actually works in stealth mode.
@@sameerhussain2579 basically Kevlar tassels on the rotors to silent the rotor wash just like whiskers on a compound bow string then they put a non radar reflective coating on the haul just like a stealth fighter and they redirect the exhaust noise through a large diffuser that directs the sound under the rotors to be absorbed and disrupted by the rotor silencing tassels I haven't seen one in person on the ground but I've watched them fly maneuvers near my house and it's easy to spot the differences between the lead apache chopper and the new silent run ones
BS explanation for a BS mission going wrong. "The most advanced stealth helicopters from AREA 51 flown by elite pilots and co-ordinated by the US military's best tacticians,,,,,crash lands in a compound (due to wind and brick walls) without the armed guards on the ground noticing. "Justice has been served!"
good bin Laden died but doesn't bring back the lives lost rip
Yea you failed math it seems
The fact that the doctor was the most hated person in Pakistan and not Bin Laden tells you a lot about the Pakistani psyche.
The main reason you don't have a lot of information to go on regarding the search for bin laden in his last years is entirely due to the fact that everything was off the books, if you wanted to know anything about how we knew where bin laden was and were coordinating an attack for a really long time, you would have to talk to somebody that was on the inside.

The men flying the helos were army from the 160th special operations aviation regiment but I believe that’s it for army personnel on that mission.
