I remember watching this live, without knowing much about rugby back then, and being glued to the TV. As many have said, the crowd stood out as the best in this electrifying match, jumping into the pitch to hug their players.
I remember it like yesterday a moment of euphoria delivered by Gordon Hamilton turned to heartbreak by Michael Lynagh. But oh how the mighty Wallabies have now crumbled and the Irish ascended. Ireland 2023
24 years later and we still haven't got past the quarter finals. A major embarrassment for Irish rugby. I really thought we would do it this year (2015).
@@username9175: Wow....and Ireland were indeed so close to beating the All Blacks at the 2019 World Cup. If they have scored another 33 points, they would have won !
I remember an article in the paper the following day and it was about Michael lynaghs Irish ancestry,it said it was as if Ned Kelly came back to rob us.All in all the wallabies were the best team in the tournament that year their conditioning and fitness levels were ahead of time, that team had probably the best three quarter line I've ever seen.Edgerton,Horan, Little, and Campese, they don't come much better than that.

So many of us couldn't believe it! It was memories of Serge Blanco in the 1987 World Cup...

9 world cups. 0 knockout games won
@@TransurLifeawai Another 33 points and we would have beaten a weak New Zealand team. I think we Irish have a mental block at quarter-final stage.
@@huzcer Crazy but true.

combination of michael lynagh and tim horan. best in the wallabies history
Can't help but think if Ireland had won this it would have changed things irrevocably for irish rugby in the 90s
I remember as a young teen In nz being gutter watching the Irish lose this. I think most kiwis second favourite team
Watched this match at the time. Even though I'm Australian had to feel for Ireland in this match. Australia got out of gaol here.
22 November 2014
