This is one of many arias I love from Ezio Pinza, IMO the greatest basso cantante of the 20th century. Wonderful sound quality. Thanks for posting this. I have several LPs of his and they are all great.
+1906sfjd Thank you for your concise yet well accepted comments sir. You and I may even be of similar antiquity upon this planet, doesn't really matter we both are ecstatic in listening to this Mr outstanding Ezio Pinza.
Why must everyone who says they like another singer have negative votes? It is opinion, not what's actually best. Musicians know that it is the best one does with his own voice that really matters.
Quite possibly training, sadly also intellectual and cultural pursuits in recent times have been largely thrown to the wolves. For me, Pinza, Bjorling, Schwarzkopf and so many others were names I grew up with; I am very grateful for that.
I wish more people were into Pinza. One of the best of the century.
Richard Goscicki : Indeed!!!
Great diction and he's actually singing rather than shouting.

Many bass singers seem to struggle with this aria, Pinza just sing it beautifully.
The balance across his registers is amazing.
and not just across registers, but loud and soft, eg. :40
@@ciroalb3 Balance between loud and soft means balance of registers. That's how you do dynamics in singing
This is opera!
No, this is OPERA.
Best and beautiful.
Un basso magnifico! 🥰💖💪
Forse il più grande!

A tributre and a toast to Maestro Rossini today Feb 20 2016 - exactly 200 years since la prima del Barbiere!!
+Jose B. Caceres Grazie, Jose!
I love Chaliapin, my number one opera singer, but for this aria Ezio Pinza is my favorite.
Amazing beyond words
A really great example of Pinza’s art! And Cleva is a most sympathetic collaborator.

So incredibly powerful and deft simultaneously. He seemed to define every song and aria he ever touched.

Listen to his 'Osmin; aria - the best, though in Italian, and not the original German.
the best basso ever Ezio Pinza
Pinza was such a gift. No comparable basso. Ever.
Siepi the greatest
@@trentonwilliams9921 Yes! Siepi,Ghiaurov,Pinza…Maybe some basses has batter voices in terms of colour, but control of voice, diction and art touch no.
@@Kovac10789 yes those would be the very greatest! Along with Hines, Giaiotti, and Tozzi. Treigle was up there too.
tear jerkingly beautiful
This is Pinza at his best. And not a palm tree or Mary Martin in sight.
Warren Hamlet lol

superb!!!! Must favourite!!! Excellent quality too.
❤
Why were there so many great singers in the 40's, 50's and 60's and so few now? Inferior training surely must be the answer?

Chaliapin has his fans but I love Pinza in this aria!
magnifique basse !
Bravo~
immenso...
SUPERB
A mis favoritos.
@aristopus I concur!
How good would he be at Meyerbeer? Marcel is a role made for him.
DER MEISTER
Love it, but Feodor Chaliapin remains my favourite in this aria.
chaliapin is funnier
the live recording from the Met with Bacccaloni is more fun
