Great, comprehensive review. Thanks for highlighting the reinforced edges, which I was not aware of. Another game changer.

Thanks for watching! I’ll be honest, the reinforced edges seems like such a small thing, but it might be my favorite feature. If you saw the corner of my old rfi strip you’d know why haha!

@@ReadylightMedia Thanks. I have had to reverse myself to tuck a rod back in many times. Probably since I am not that Eagle Scout 😀

I’m pretty excited to see for myself! Not sure if they’ll make a 5ft octa, but if they did, I would be set for headshots

@@ReadylightMedia yeah for sure! Being a bit lighter would be perfect for the b10 lineup

@JeahnLaffitte most definitely! I can easily use that size as a background and if it were portable that would be fabulous

I have a number of the the RFI versions Octa and Strip lights that I use in the studio. I just purchased the 3 ft Octa and super happy with. Its quick to use and don't have to tear down my older ones. Looking at getting the 1x4 strip light now. I also have the clic for my A2 which is fast and fun to work with. Sure makes it much easier when working out of the studio. :)

I love the new 1x4! I also have a couple A2’s and even picked up the clic adaptor so I could use the new softboxes with them.

How does this new Profoto foldable differ from the Glow ParaSnap softbox that is far less expensive?

The main difference is the overall build quality and the fact that they’re heat resistant and can be used with the full line of Profoto lights, including proheads. I’ve had some glow stuff in the past and it’s always seemed cheaply made but if you’re looking to save a buck, those are definitely an option and will still work.

Glow makes this same sort of thing for the octa (3 sizes I believe) with an interchangeable mount system, including profoto. The glow snap also have a strip and 2x3 box available with the Bowens mount, but sell the insertable profoto mount separately (via Adorama). Perhaps not rated for the halogen modeling lights, but works with the B- and A- series just fine.

There are definitely other foldable options out there, but I think there is still a market for these ones. Especially since they’re rated for use with older and hotter lights. I’ll admit, I haven’t actually used any of the other brands that make similar products, but I have had my hands on some of them at some of the trade shows, and I have to say, the Profoto build quality is much higher, but much like everything else, you get what you pay for, and for some people they would rather have a cheaper modifier but are ok with them breaking in a year or two. At least with as rough as I am with my gear that would definitely happen haha! Plus I kinda like the fact that these ones say Profoto on the side 😜😂 I can’t afford a Ferrari, but I can swing a Profoto Softboxes haha!
