I have to say after walking using the contrabody movements as demonstrated by Egils I have not ever felt so invigorated. Your body feels very much alive as the spiral begins in the feet to the top of your head. Thank you Egils. In teaching Aikido we also have contra body movements which generates power, so your video came right on time as I am teaching the importance of this type of movement.
+Lynn thanks for your feedback! I'm happy that exercises helped you so quickly. I think that contrary body movement is so natural body mechanic that it should work in almost any physical activity. I have heard that in Aikido circular motions are basic principle, so there CBM must very important 👍
Egils Smagris Just wow. I just realized how much waltz changed my way of walking today. But didn't actually think that it is so much different, however as I thought back on how I used to walk and I walk now. I actually see that I wasn't having the turn before. :) Actually want to ask if this "training outside the ballroom" could be the reason that my body wants to give a try with new variations, (I am actually "shadowing"(not sure if that is how it is called, when you do some routines alone) at home and walking a lot) that my partner actually knows already, but I do not really feel safe with. (Sometimes succeeding, sometimes not really. ) Sorry for using so many brackets, hopefully is still understandable what I meant to say there. :)
Ballroom Dancing Alex Moore,Page 16 to 17 Ninth Edition ...Facing the Line of Dance with the Right foot free, ready to make a forward turn to the Right. As the Right foot moves forward and the body turns to the Right may dancers allow the Right foot to travel in a direction diagonal to the wall. This is wrong,. It is the body that turns away from the Line of Dance. The Right foot must move straight forward, or ,if anything, cover slightly in front of the other foot.
Ever Victorious thanks for your question. Contrary body movement is body action to initiate turn. It’s moving of opposite side of body towards stepping foot, either forward or backward. Hope this definition helps.
This is not exactly band I used in video, but I suggest: Thera-band Theraband CLX Consecutive Loops Resistance Bands. Yellow or red colour which means resistance is low. Length 1,5 m or 8 loops.
Here are 2 questions. 1. When doing the contra-body movement, it appears you prep for the movement, such as the right contra-movement, you prep a bit to the left and then move to the right. The same with the left contra-movement, prep to the right then move to the left. Is this what we are to do? - or was that prep to create an emphasis for purpose of the demonstration? 2. What are those elastics called if I was to find where to buy them? - unless you can provide a link to the website that sells them?
+Dancer2016, thanks for your questions: elastics you can use are called Thera-band CLX Continuous Loops Resistance Bands. These are slightly different than I use in video, but are good. About preparation to CMB: yes we have to prepare opposite unless in some situations we are already prepared from previous movement.

Thank you Egils and partner - so helpful and essential. Jack in Japan.
That explains why ballroom dancers always look so confident when they walk :)
I cannot thank you for more so much for the clear explanation about CBM Eglis.
Thanks Angela for appreciating this video. Wish you to enjoy your CBM in dancing!

Hi, clear explanation. Thks. Any topic on Cbmp?
Thank you! No video on CBMP jet. Step forward or back in one line with other foot, or slightly accross. Used on outside steps and in promenades.

Thanks Salinthj!
Very useful. I love it. Thank you so much Egils.
Glad you find it useful! ;)
Egils, why is the word "contrary" being used here?
It seems that it is "same-directional body movement".

This is good moving.
thanks! :)
V waltz beginner
Please tell me what is the name of the body band that U R using ? where can I purchase one ?
This is not exactly band I used in video, but I suggest:
Thera-band Theraband CLX Consecutive Loops Resistance Bands. Yellow or red colour which means resistance is low. Length 1,5 m or 8 loops.
You can find band on eBay

I understand, thank-you.
For the prep movement, should that be made before the first step or during the first step, for example in the Waltz?
+Dancer2016, prepare before step
Thank-you. :)
right foot step forward and body rotates to the Right also....how is this"contrat" ?
Left shoulder comes closer to right foot. Counter body movement or CBM.
👍👌👏🙏
Hi Egils where can I get one of those bands?
Basically any elastic exercise band with loop will be ok. On eBay or in local sport shop you will find those.
...o i SEE the body CROSSES OVER THE FORWARD FOOT!
