Thanks for posting, brings back a lot of good memories. I had a Volvo back then, with a moon roof and a cassette tape player. I had transferred this album from CD onto cassette so I could play it in the Volvo. And I drove around Milwaukee in the summer time with the moon roof open and this song going full blast, over and over. It was in the tape player when I met my wife.
I worked at a Volvo dealership in Nor-Cal around 2004. One of the technicians was from Wisconsin and thought The Gufs were just the best band. He loaned me their CD and I drove around in my 1984 Volvo 240 listening to it. "Smile" is a song I come back to every once and a while. It just reminds me of how young I was and how much I thought certain things mattered when they really didn't in the long run.
Went to a lot of Gufs shows in 96/97, a few after parties in Chicago and Milwaukee. Can’t help but smile watching this performance. Wish I could’ve been there.
