Creatures That Were NOT ALLOWED On The Ark Of Noah
In #Genesis 6:7, God reveals His regret for creating mankind and decides to erase humanity along with the animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky. Interestingly, marine creatures are not mentioned among those doomed to perish. This omission might seem puzzling at first, but a closer examination reveals a logical coherence. The plan to flood the earth, as described in Genesis 6:17, aimed to destroy all life "under heaven" with the "breath of life." Here, the term "breath of life" is crucial-it denotes beings that breathe air, thereby excluding aquatic life. Since aquatic life thrives in water, these creatures were naturally excluded from the ark's passenger list.
The narrative in Genesis 7:20-23, which details the inundation of the earth and the subsequent death of all land-dwelling creatures, omits any reference to the destruction of marine life. The waters rose to cover even the highest mountains, yet fish and other sea creatures remained unscathed. This selective survival underscores a unique aspect of the flood: it was a judgment specifically on terrestrial life, aligning with the understanding that aquatic creatures did not need saving from an environment designed for their existence.
The distinction between clean and unclean animals, which surfaces later in the Mosaic Law (#Leviticus 11), also plays a role in Noah’s ark narrative. Clean animals were taken in greater numbers-seven pairs-as opposed to just two pairs of unclean animals. This detail, though specified in a later context, suggests an early understanding of ritual purity and the necessity of certain animals for sacrifices and sustenance post-flood. It paints a picture of a society deeply attuned to the symbolism and practical needs surrounding their religious practices, even in times of divine judgment.
