- This Ankle Lock and Back take combination is so strong together, often I work underneath my opponent using this modified x guard position. From this position its very easy to attack the ankle lock, but when they defend the back take is almost always available.

Love your videos professor, thank you very much
I’m going to have to learn both the back take you teach and the rolling one at the beginning. Both were incredible. Always great stuff. Thanks so much
Great sequence! And thanks for helping troubleshoot when people turn their feet inward in the ankle lock! Much appreciated. 😎
Yeah this back take is a great option, so is the matrix as well but didn’t want to overload the technique too much for one video.
The whole back take sequence at the end is really slick. I have to try this.
Very slick my friend..
Any chance of you making an updated version of escaping side control? The series from 2018 were really helpful
Definitely going to update the side escape stuff when I get back to Sweden, have been meaning to cover it again for a while.
Can you post a link to this side control escapes series?
Hi Jon
Really love all your videos . They’re so helpful to me. Just wondering, can you make a short or full video on butterfly ashi counter/escape (musumeci footlock escape)?
멋있다... thx!!!
No problem!
Hey Jon do you have playlist for escapes? In different positions
🔥🔥🔥

Setup this ankle lock at a competition this weekend and the ref stopped the match and told me I'm not allowed to do it. He said there's a grey area but it attacks the knee and therefore too similar to a heel hook. Thoughts on this? Or are there any good alternatives to finish from here? Was a big part of my game but I feel hesitant about using it now, as having to let the sub go ended up costing me the match.
It's aoki lock. Attack the knee in same way as inside heel hook.
I am pretty sure this video is having a traffic surge after what Hugo did to Aly 🤣
Are you sure ref won't call a heel hook for this in competition?
Yeah... It's technically not an ankle lock, it's an Aoki lock which attacks the knee similar to a heel hook. For a long time, you could get away with doing it in competition because it looks like an ankle lock but referees are becoming much more savvy to it. You're unlikely to get away with it in competition any more.
Noice!!!
Thanks buddy!
Is there a transition to backside 50/50 instead of the back take from the Matrix attack, or am I just seeing things?
100% matrix and backside 5050 are just a question of how far your matrix hook is fed in.
the hair equals +10 strength
Hair strength matters!
is this the guy from pulp fiction?
this is really sick , but around 6:30 you show you lock the heel in by grabbing your lapel. What would you recommend for locking in that heel without a lapel grip?
Shotgun grip is best if you can't grab the lapel. Check out mateusz szczecinski
Aoki locks are illegal in the gi yeah?
Nice but PLEASE never do lessons with two BLACK gis on a BLACK mat 😢
