I was in the residential side for about 25ish years before switching over to commercial, refrigeration and hot side several years ago. When I first switched over I was super nervous because I didn’t know any of this equipment. Also working in kitchens was a bit nerve wracking as well. I started watching your channel after a friend recommended it. I can’t stress to you how much you helped me. I would watch your videos every day for the first 6 months. I learned a tremendous amount from you and got familiar with a lot of the equipment through your example. Thank you for everything, I am now a lead tech with multiple techs that call me daily for advice. You absolutely helped me out, your professionalism and attention to detail has helped me more than you will ever know.
Also look at your ceilings. They can be a tell that doors left open. Lots of frost on ceiling, coil, fan guards. Older walkins may be so old the seams are leaking air into box from panels. Door gaskets typical missing or ripped. Also electrical junction boxes on top of box carry warm humid air into coil electrical end. Remove cover up there and squirt some silicon in the conduit. Just a few other thoughts.
Check out the GRIPEDGE RPT tools. These really work on rounded allen screws. I had two allen screws stuck in a stainless bearing keeper and they were almost rounded but these pulled them right out.
Moving stuff, moving air... I imagined that when Chris comes to repair the freezer, the restaurant hires a magician and he makes all the stuff fly through the air. May be in a perfect world?
That's great that you talk about leaving it better than when you came in, and to slow down and use care and think about the customer's budget too. I try to have our guys think about things from the customers perspective too, not just their own. This video could be part of your apprentice series! Awesome work!
After months of seeing your videos I finally figured maybe I should clean the condenser of my fridge. Dunno if it's because it's an "air cooling" type but it's a small one at the bottom not the huge classic grid. Had to unscrew the back bottom panel but woah it was really dirty, so much dust I could barely see it at first. Hopefully this will help keeping it working longer.
@@colinstu Since I got it so 5y I guess ? But I don't have pets so it can probably be a lot worse. It's not like anyone tell you to clean these, maybe because you could easily damage it or maybe because it's designed to handle it as long as warranty last. In my case on top of needing to remove a panel tons of tubes are in the way so it was pretty difficult to clean. Next time I'll try to have some small fittings for the vacuum.
Your time is certainly not wasted in these videos, even for someone like me who doesn't work with HVAC - I regularly tune in to your videos and watch right through to the end. I like your explanations to the diagnosis process which could benefit anyone in any technical role, not just HVAC. And the wrap ups at the end are great grounding on the nature of business and dealing with people and conflicting priorities. On top of this all, you're just a good person who goes out of his way to support the customer, and the community who support you. Keep up the good work!

That drain line is straight out of the house from "the money pit"! When it comes to customers and your interactions with them and their practices, I know it can be a balancing act. Keeping the door open or bypassing the door switch etc is just going to cause problems down the line. Sadly today's business models are money first knowledge second & even if the manager understands the problem, they got 4 other managers in an office somewhere pushing to crank out profit & things like best practices get left in the dust.
Maybe suggest to the managers a recording temp sensor... so they can track what actually happens with the temps... and if it constantly has a temp going up at one time... and that's when they get a delivery...
Alot of these restaurants have food and equipment temp logs that are supposed to be filled every few hours, but often times they are just pencil whipped
My money is on it was iced up due to improper air flow due to the broken brackets paired with the bad fan motor, and staff leaving the door open. Especially if your humidity was high paired with blocked drains, I think you just had the perfect conditions to get that thin layer of ice on the coil.

Also, Manager #13 is now with us, Manager #12 lasted three weeks before they transferred her to another store so they could promote that store's manager. 🤦♂
