- Hey! In this week's video, I'm watching one of Jaclyn Hill's videos and sharing some tips and advice! Lets me know what you think of her makeup and application below!

Hey everyone! I just want to mention two things.
1) A lot of you are mention the thumbnail. This is a screen shot from a face She pulls in the video for about 2 minutes while putting on a voice. She put it in her video for millions of people to see, and she is aware how many people will see her face like that. She seems to have a good sense of humour. I’m sure she wouldn’t care.
2) If you’ve watched my MUA reacts videos. You will notice I never insult the persons looks, weight, personality, personal life etc etc. It’s always about the makeup, just the makeup nothing else. Please remember that when you are leaving a comment.

@@Ferchispita I think when he says makeup he means the overall industry trying to be creative and caking up their looks so it has no rules as such but there is a theory behind you applying things and thats prolly science.
@@booboo-fr9tp Yea like, applying foundation with your fingers isn't really a good idea because your fingertips secrete oil. Or that using setting powder stops the fluidity of your foundation so it doesn't run. It's just science. Like baking.

Robert made me realize that beauty gurus only know THEIR skin, and are trying to give advice to people. Robert is a professional that has worked with hundreds of people with different skin types, so I'll take whatever he says as gospel.
Anneli Pietersen not ONLY that but he knows how makeup works, and what doesn't work and how to judge tone, and match etc. Watching someone do their makeup all day every day isn't really teaching anyone anything , I mean sure ppl have learned some techniques or knowledge of products but basically if u know NOTHING to begin with. Even the good yt....however and what u base that on bc we all have different preferences. But when you think about it once they have any following that is....its all dozens if products they use and next work or the next day its something different, then something different again and they are selling to you. If you were trying to actually learn and follow how would you keep up?? Lol. Esp with young girls who are trying to fit in or be on "trend" regardless of what looks good or is good for their skin. I went thru a phase of wanting to just collect makeup but I'm getting back to just wanting a few GREAT products that work for me and finding MY best look not what's popular at them moment, we will always be trying new products and replacing certain things and wanting something new even as a "look" now and then but less and less ppl are teaching and we're just watching them do their makeup....and not very well lol. Plus they make false claims and "rules" that are just their opinion and some ppl are out there thinking it's the gospel lol. Heck most aren't even doing trials or reviews anymore.

Yup! True makeup artists know how to work with various types of skin. Only because I know how to make myself look nice doesn't mean I know how to make others look good.

I used to collect makeup and it's sooo stupid. I recently had to throw it all out coz it was over 5 years old now. Such a waste of money.
They really don’t even know their own skin most times, as Jaclyn exhibits in this video. She claims her skin is so unbearably dry, but proceeds to layer on several ounces of powder.

stella o , yup. I used to do that but know I look for hydrating concealers and used just a tiny bit. I used to cake on my concealer like these beauty youtubers. Ugh.

Some ppl dont even need concealer, at least not daily but here they are slathering on layer after layer, using the wrong typa and shade bc they" saw it on a video " smh
Exactly!! Full coverage is not for everyone, and not just because of age. When I was 17, I would slather on the foundation, coverup and powder, thinking it was the only way to get flawless skin. Obviously, I didn't have any signs of age yet, but the reason my makeup looked super awful is because I was really dry. Dry skin looks terrible with heavy products, and the technique I use to apply my makeup is completely different from someone with normal or oily skin. I'm glad I learned my lesson! The right skincare, the right products and the right techniques are key : )
Yeah this chick is going to get a horrible shock when she tries doing her makeup like this as she gets older and those fine lines start developing 😂

Absolutely.... Robert is a professional he definitely will call out someone that is actually saying something incorrect. They might think they are correct. That is there right. But he also will correct the incorrect information that was given. That is the best way to actual teach. Don’t just say someone is wrong with out explaining how it’s incorrect and what to do and how to do it the best way.

I said the same thing after I watch a video of hers.
The young women/ men that actually watch her have to just love her unconditionally because she really actually BS’ed half of that video. I’m not a makeup professional and I know oil will definitely breakdown makeup ( even though JH says it wouldn’t) and all that powder would make my dry skin look like the Sahara desert 🌵 🐫 .

I stopped watching these makeup people. They ruined my face. I bought so many unnecessary products and did my makeup just like them and my foundation looked like crap. I stopped baking because it made my face look cakey. I also never moisturized my face either. I now moisturize morning and night , before I apply makeup and after I take off my makeup. I’m an oil combo person. I do a light dusting on my face with translucent powder. And you’re right, on camera their faces look flawless, but I bet if we looked at Jaclyns face in person it would be gross. She buys unnecessary products for her face. Use less foundation and less powder. Less is more. 🙄

TBH Jacklyn's makeup looks like what we do for amateur theatre and dance (big stage, not competitions), lots of powders, full coverage everything, tons of product. It looks great from afar under the lights but as soon as you go backstage it looks like a Sephora exploded during the mid 2000s, with the visible layers of foundation and amount of texture and creasing. Those methods are not made for everyday, especially for dry skin.
That was my first thought too! Seemed like stage makeup. Excellently done stage makeup, but stage nonetheless haha. I always had to pack on the powder to keep out the sweat from the lights because I’m like Robert-oily😅
Right? I did this for both theatre and color guard in high school, and though I’ve done it in real life, I rarely do it now, especially as someone with oily skin.
I know this is old, but this style of make up on the Internet came from drag make up (which is stag make up like you said). Cause RuPaul's drag race was everywhere and everyone in the US beauty scene were hanging together so they used the same techniques.

It does. I would know. She's who I "learned" how to do make up from. When I was young it worked okay because I had perfect young person skin. Now i'm 25 and boy are those fine lines showing up. I'm having to completely re-learn since all I ever watched were youtube "beauty gurus".

It’s crazy because she was an actual makeup artist. She worked with MAC and I’m not sure how they trained them in the past but the way they trained me is the complete opposite of what she does

I know this may sound crazy but I can listen to your voice 😁I have been focusing on skincare for the past 10 years (I’m 36) I got a chemical peel last week & the esthetician actually complimented me on my skin. I have dryyy skin and with the weather I have upped my steps & I have been using a tinted moisturizer/cc cream - cream bronze tiny bit of concealer (3 dots like you mentioned) LIGHTLY set just the areas with the cream bronzer with the hourglass setting powder & under my eyes with the hourglass ambient lighting powder & then put a light bit of the hourglass luminous bronze light/ a little bit of highlight /spray some setting spray lip balm & im good to go for a quick everyday go to

Every time I’ve followed a “beauty gurus” makeup tutorial it has made me look like I aged 20 years. Now I do VERY minimal makeup and it looks so much better. If I’m not going out I don’t wear makeup at all and I just focus on moisturizing and skin care. My skin has been loving me, before I did this I would break out and have blackheads all the time. Now I rarely have any of that.

Yesss!!! When my interest piqued in make up, like everyone else I followed these UA-cam and IG big names and honestly got so disappointed with the results. Just happened to pay more attention to skin care after that and now the natural next step seemed to be "my skin but better" type of make up and it's just been amazing to be friends with my skin again haha
Amen girl, i used to follow the trends and guru shit advices and it always made me look like im 50 year old woman who just got menopause and is trying to look like a teenage girl. Now at my 25 i do minimal and now i see highschool girls and i look younger ;)
Yep!! I usually always wear Boots No7 Lift & Luminate foundation when I am wearing makeup, but I recently picked up NYX Born To Glow foundation, which is the first makeup item I’ve bought in a while besides a large palette in December. It probably won’t even get opened for at least a week. All my time & money is going into skincare lately. I’m even loving just my bare moisturized skin and my liner & lashes when I go out. With severely sensitive & dry rosacea skin....in the brutal winter. That’s how on top of, happy with and invested in my skincare I’ve been.
I love this! We gotta remember that not everything works for us and we should do what works best for us and sometimes it's completely ignoring the gurus and their recommendations.
I’ve always found her makeup soooo heavy handed. So much blush and highlight, soooo much powder. Girl, that routine isn’t helping your dry skin or fine lines... your filler is helping those things.

Tanisha McGingaa When she said that comment, I started picturing someone applying concealer on a 5 year old. This is why it’s imperative for youtubers to beware what they say on camera because there’s always someone who can interpret it the wrong way and bite you in the butt for it.

Roe Pau not true. my skin is fairly clear with just very few acne scars but it is smooth and soft as i make sure to take care of it as much as i can, and yet wearing a full coverage matte foundation makes my skin look like i haven't exfoliated in my entire life.

I mean, not to sound rude but it's common sense lmao I have large pores but I was able to find a foundation for me, & if I skip out on my morning routine & just put on makeup, my skin would look so cratery.
@@mirilovely7351 you literally said nothing about your skin type just your appearance. My skin is exceptional but it is extremely combo, with my nose being very dry. If I cake it up with matte foundation, my nose will look crumbly of course because it is not about the appearance of the skin but the type of it and how it will react with the applied foundation.

I watched Jacklyn for the first time in 2013 or 2014. I kinda hated her because she was so talkative and it was irritating. Fast forward to 2020. Guess what? Still the same feeling lol but she's a talented make up artist.

How would I look with all that makeup and powders going to the store? I have seen a few people wearing so much makeup and highlighter like that and I have to look away
dear god, as a pro mua with 17 years in the industry, I SO APPRECIATE these videos. It's SO irksome to have clients questions so many things I'm doing because I don' t do it like the youtubers, Even when they love the results at the end of our session. SAME!! OMG I'm sick of people thinking I don't know makeup (even though I'm certified and have been freelancing as a pro MUA for 10 years), just I don't do it the same way UA-camrs do.
For example (this happened a couple of years ago) Sometimes when I use Farsali Rose Gold Elixir/Unicorn Essence to prep the skin, some clients actually point out saying, "FYI, it's funny that as an MUA you're unaware that if you don't let the product drip for a few seconds down your face and forehead, you're not making the most of it and it wont work it's magic".

Absolutely! I've got a light with 4 different settings and I always use the bright daylight setting and it absolutely makes a difference!
USING a light when you are DOING THE MAKEUP makes a difference.
Not really sure where someone got confused as to what you were talking about.

This is why I live Taylor Wynn. When she does a foundation review she always does check ins in natural light so you can get a better idea of what the foundation might look like in real life.

I'm glad I'm in the heavy tanned, dark to deep skin tone range. When everyone was dosing themselves in translucent powder, I was like "I do not see how looking ashy and grey would enhance the look of my skin." every black and brown person knows lotion/cocoa butter/coconut oil/shea butter/olive oil makes your skin better and baby powder is to absorb moisture. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

@@maripohto403pretty sure it's an exaggeration since 1) it would be quite hard to physically run to Finland, especially if they're from North America and 2) I'm pretty sure they're quite far from Finland, so they'd rather flee than be convinced to use so much powder on their dry skin. Jacklyn does extremely high end skincare, there was a video were she shown her skincare drawers and it was all la mer, Dior, la prairie etc. This could mean that she either doesn't use it or uses it incorrectly. It all about a routine: consistency/skin type/lifestyle/ etc. You don't always get what you pay for as many beauty houses are, as we all know, selling us an unobtainable result or we have unreasonable expectations. Love all the wisdom imparted here! We can always do with these tips! 💯

That was me even a couple weeks ago. Ive tried doing my make up before and always felt so discouraged because it looked horrible, feeling intimated just at picking colors and always feeling like I didn’t have the right products so I just couldn’t even try. After watching tutorials here and learning WHY things weren’t working I did my make up for the first time in years and actually get really proud of my work. It wasn’t amazing, but I felt confident enough to take pictures in it and leave to the grocery store with it on. Thanks so much Robert, I thought I would never get to be one of those people that did their make up and was just not made for it, but now I feel like not only can I do it, I can get really really proficient with practice 💕❤️

I'm here thinking how much does she scrub her face. I've always had dry skin. I use a daily exfoliator once a day. I'm scared of chemical exfoliators and if I decide to try one again is once a day. Then I pile on a drug store serum and moisturising face SPF. I also have good genes from my granny. She taught me skincare and makeup too. In my twenties people kept asking if I was in high school and kept thinking my granny was my mother. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Marley Hill you really shouldn’t exfoliate more than a couple days a week. Especially if it’s a chemical exfoliant! I used to use a cleanser that had some exfoliant combined with it and I could use that daily, but anything any more harsh than that shouldn’t ever be used daily

Agreed. I think the only "beauty guru" who I've watched who has always advocated skin care over make up (even when she's not being sponsored) is Jackie Aina (and maybe to her credit, Tati Westbrook as well). It was Jackie who taught me that it doesn't matter what type of makeup you put on your face it won't help the underlying problems. Skincare is so important, more so that the makeup itself and that has always stuck with me.

Prachi I had the same issues and realized it was digestive issues. Not to give TMI but skin health is EXTREMELY effected by colon health. Once I got my skincare down and corrected the digestive issues, my skin is balanced.

Jaclyn is an amazing make up artist. It's just she puts tons of products on her skin to the point that it would break in the middle of the day. It looks good at first but how about the rest of the day? Robery W gives realistic tips and tricks and we couldn save a looot of products by using a little amount 💛
agreed - i used to do the tips and tricks that the influencers would do but, getting older, and watching Robert and Wayne Goss videos, made me realize that less is indeed more and that baking is a sin that no person with dry/dehydrated skin (like me) should even think of doing lol

Another example is “I could care less.”
That’s not right. It should be “I couldn’t care less.” Which means that you don’t give a darn about it all. The “wrong” phrase means that you do care a little bit which is not what the person intends when they say it.

Me Old millennial 80's baby: learns from books by actual world renowned makeup artists to apply foundation in thin layers with a brush! Gen Z: follows social media gurus and applies a thick layer of full coverage foundation bounced around with a egg sponge and 20 layers of powder. 20 years from now I shall be well preserved and younger Gen Z will be looking like a dried out unwrapped Egyptian Mummy wondering how. I'm 39 this year and I have people in their 20s asking me what I put on my face. Cleanser moisturiser and SPF... From the drugstore! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Marley Hill isn’t that the truth!! Not to mention that so many are getting filler in their lips and face at such a young age that if they don’t keep that up as they get older, it’s going to look awful! I have no problem with anyone doing what they want with their face, but so many of them get it for free just to promote the dr who did it, so when that dries up and they have to fork out $8k-10k every 6-9 months to maintain it, it’s going to be hard to afford to continue doing it. Being a beauty “guru” on UA-cam, for most, will only have a certain amount of longevity as a career.
Robert Welsh is my absolute favorite MUA. He is so amazing and really goes in to depth to educate us and give us the tools and tips we need to really advance. He is so amazing. It would be a dream to meet him and get to carry on a conversation with him!
Never watched Jacklyn Hill before. But all the other controversy aside, still glad I didn’t. Because she just spent 20+ minutes NOT telling how to not be cakey, hyping it up the whole time (which I really disliked but have heard that is her thing), and her “tip” at the end was not a good one by any means. Made me cringe for the people that try it because I can just imagine how it would break down the makeup. You are better off with a hydrating mist over top and using a hydrating primer before.
Once upon a time Jacklyn Hill had a good youtube channel. I don't even know if her earliest videos are still available. She's a good example of how fame and success can destroy a person. It's actually kind of sad. Anything in the past 4-ish years aren't even worth watching.
@@alphaleonis986 She mostly stuck to what she knew though which were brushes and eyeshadows. Shes not a makeup artist just another consumer with money to spare so she can trial multiple products. By branching out and giving us "tips" that are not even valid (plain to see!) is just beyond embarrassing.
Craziest thing is she used to give such good constructive tips for makeup. If you can find her old videos of her when she had black hair and she was filming in front of her fridge then you’ll see why she had/has such a huge following. I don’t know what happened but it seems like she’s lost her basic makeup knowledge/just doesn’t care because she and everyone else are trying to stay relevant and keep up with the trends.

I started to like how my skin actually looks when it's a bit shiny, I think I look healthier... And if I get too much shine, I'll just use toilet paper to take out the excess and add just a bit a powder through out the day. So having dry skin and using THIS MUCH powder.... it's a no-no...

Gina Barlow What’s crazy is that she’s trying to use an oil to hydrate. And oils don’t hydrate! Watery products and humectants do. And if she wanted that extra glow and get more hydration, she should’ve resorted to a dewy setting spray instead.
