    Bruce’s passion for science reminds me of my grade 8 and 9 science teacher. He was passionate about science, and it showed in his teaching, he was always so excited to do demonstrations like these.

    I enjoy making spinning top-based centrifugal spintoys with LEGO (examples on my channel). Lots of fun to design and play with. Combining LEGO constuction with gravity and non-LEGO springs and elastics makes many different onboard mechisms possible.
    These centrifugal tops are always crowd-pleasers at LEGO shows. But exploiting centrifugal force in tops is nothing new. Japanese and German topmakers put centrifugal force to excellent use ca. 1850-1930. And much older examples can be found in large vintage top collections.

    Those are so cool! I will have my students make them this year because I want to make them! Your connection to the shape of the earth is rad. It seems like the earth should be a wonderful sphere like you see water make in zero g but we got this odd shape, just like those toys demo. So many levels of cool. Thanks Bruce!

    I appreciate your inclusion of a Julius Sumner Miller clip. He was a legend and an inspiration. I think he would be proud to see you carrying on his legacy, and he would be delighted with your content. Although you're offset in time, due to the nature and quality of your work I see the two of you as peers and colleagues.

    Hello Bruce, You might like to play with large pine cones and Wisteria seed pods. They can be used to make weather toys like the German weather houses. The pine scales move with humidity and so do Wisteria pods. (they twist when dry & flatten out when wet) I think "motors" can be made from them. pine scales can make a hygrometer just by putting a straw on the point and use fun tack to hold it in place. some scales move 180 degrees or more. Wisteria pods twist 360 degrees easy. Soaking these with salt water effects how they absorb moisture from the air.

      Scales from a pine cone in action. Very Slow, but action. I find wrapping the pine scale or petal with absorbent yarn or string makes them repeat the up and down movement, bird drinking motion. ua-cam.com/video/K9d8J8nfN5I/v-deo.html

    If you made one with metal springs that are mounted at a offset angle could it be used like a fan to move air around a room?

    Recently I noticed that big puffer balls (they are very squishy) are great in showing centrifugal effects. I like to throw a ball in the air with rotation and it nicely flattens.

    Question: Everybody is balanced if its center of mass passes through its base.
    But in the banking of the cycle, the cycle is ultimately balanced because its center of mass is not passing through its wheels. (base)
    How does a banking cycle balance?

      I've been back in helping out as a substitute on occasion. I have some video clips shot but not completed. the school has allowed me continue shooting video in the building as I get the chance

      Hi Ron, I would agree that some videos will be more exciting than others. This one is going back to the original intent of the channel which was to show materials and demonstrations that others can make and try for themselves. I'm hoping that is the case for this one.
