I'm 15, and I'm currently struggling/recovering from bulimia. I kept trying to fix myself, but found nothing. That was until I heard this song. The message is absolutely beautiful, and it's portrayed so realistically. This helped me start to fix myself a bit, and I am now slowly recovering from it. Thank you so very much, Melanie.
Small Pauls well, strawberry shortcake is extremely important as well. But as somebody who has struggled with bulimia in the past I can relate to the song better, y’know?
That whole conversation between CryBaby and Fleur helped me through a lot.. maybe I might even get it tattooed on me one day, just a small exert of it though 💖👼🍊
what an artist. melanie is literally changing the history of the music industry, in addition to telling the story of cry baby, with just one movie she managed to seriously portray subjects like bulimia, harassment, objectification of celebrities, pedophilia, psychological torture, transphobia, racism, verbal and physical aggression, psychological harassment, self-esteem problems and it doesn't end there, but the list is long. this woman is doing something never seen before, the representational space she is slowly conquering makes me feel comforted. she deserves the world.
ik she is absolutely amazing and all of the songs comfort me even if only a couple lines are relatable i love her sm i just idk she is like my role model
I was listening to this normally at age 9 not knowing months later i'd develop an ED. from anorexia to bulimia after the cravings got too strong so i started purging. now im listening to this again in recovery. so much nostalgia
same, when i first discovered this song i didn’t even know what bulimia was (i legit thought it was a physical condition which causes you to not being able to keep food down)
I have probably said this 5,000,000 times: the choreography for this song is absolutely gorgeous. It is probably the best in the whole movie. It looks like a renaissance painting and she NEEDS to make a video for the full choreography.
@@jazelleisback I think the line "You turn oranges into orange juice" means like the food that just already ate you're turning it to vomit to get it out.
Vee Reebel that's a bad statement. not all people with anorexia or bulimia are skinny. sure it'll lead to you eating up all your fat, except I'm sure you could die before you reach stick skinny. also it's bad because... melanie doesn't have an ed? but she's skinny. and you shouldn't glorify having a nice body through ed, which all these girls have. because I found found in my own experience, it didn't get me a good body, I looked like a 12 year old boy who plays basketball.
Vee Reebel bro being passive aggressive is unnecessary. my comment that you commented on first, was about how there wasn't any diversity... odd for a song trying to preach self love. then you came tearing through with "it's about bulimia, the girl has bulimia!!" like tf not what I was talking about. not talking about the girl spitting up oj in the bathroom. I was talking about chicks in the field. and I can read. don't get confused. but, what I got from your og comment was essentially, "this song is about bulimia, bulimia=skinny, ofc they're skinny" which, is not a fault on my part. your comment was so irrelevant all I could be expected to get from it was that. also, I realize I don't know melanie. I used to be a fan in 2015 or something... anyhow, yes she could have an ed but if she hasn't explicitly said anything and nothings been confirmed why assume? that's such a horrible argument. "you don't know her! she could have one!" yeah she could but that has nothing to do with this song's imagery.
Vee Reebel honey, I never was talking about that girl in the first place. I was pointing out that dumbass #1 mentioned the "diversity" amongst the girls.... yeah right. I have no context whatsoever, didn't watch mels shit movie, and I think we should abandon the whole "melanie and ed" conversation because it's a cesspool and not relevant whatsoever. it's too bad you can't read the first fucking sentence and comprehend it too. but I won't baby you further.

22 yo male here. I suffered bulimia when I was 19. My worst and most memorable experience was when I just went to go see a movie with my friends. We later went to Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen. My friend offered to pay for me because I didn't have a job. I got the sirloin steak, chicken tenders with corn and fries. It was delicious, and after a fun half hour of chatting, we went home. My friend dropped me off, and when I went inside, I immediately ran into the bathroom with a sense of guilt from eating all that food. I threw up all the food into the toilet, and sat there crying because it was so painful. I wasn't crying, my body was, from the lack of substance and the torture my mind was putting me through. Later that year I became a personal trainer, and I've learned so much. I chose to help others with their body, and help them achieve their goal, and make sure they aren't alone. Edit: i forgot i posted this, you are all so sweet and kind. I've been doing a whole lot better and I've come to peace with myself. I still have lots of stretch marks from the rapid and severe weight loss, but I've come to terms with it as a piece of my past 💗💟💙
This might not mean much from a stranger on the internet but man ? I'm so fuckin proud of you. I'm still dealing with my own eating disorder and to overcome it and become better takes so much strength. You're going good and I hope you continue being your best self :-)
The most underrated song so far This is pure gold and made me cry even when I don't have an eating disorder But Mel has helped me to love myself a little bit more every day How I wish celebrities used their fame for a good cause like she does
The scene where crybaby gave the girl her eyes so she could see her beauty from someone else’s perspective was just really beautiful to me it made me tear up.
People think Melanies crazy, but I want to say one thing. She's not crazy or mental like people think. And she didn't have a bad childhood. Melanie is not cry baby. Melanie portrays cry baby as a girl who faces real world problems from a child's perspective. This doesn't make cry baby crazy either. What I'm trying to say is Melanie uses crybaby and music to talk about serious issues. Plus her music videos and lyrics have so much meaning, and what most people get off from it is that melanies some creepy mental person, but those people are naive not to see the true meaning of her songs. By the way I know this is from the k through 12 album, but most of the stuff I say still applies to this song, plus I just felt like I needed to get that out there.
She had a problem from her emotions and turns out she's emotional so people usually call her *Crybaby* so that's when she made and ablum And that's how she made these songs.
i’m so glad melanie made this. i’m currently in the re-feeding process of anorexia and it sUcKs. i think that e.ds need more attention since they are very life threatening. no matter your size or the numbers on the scale, you’re imperfectly perfect. there’s only one you, so be the craziest and loudest version of you ever. let the world know your name and that you won’t let anything or anyone stop you
"wanna know something I learned about bodies?" "they don't define us. we aren't our bodies, ther'ye just temporary." "I know it seems impossible but, don't expect shallow people to love you! they don't even have the capacity to see how amazing you are. and, we all gotta love ourselves without the approval of others." "everyone is deserving of love. everyone." 🎀💗🎀

@h a h a bulimia it's a eating disorder that the person that have it have a compulsion to eat. Like, they never wants to get weight. and when they eat, they vomit it so the food can get out of their stomach. People that have prefeer to eat more light foods, just like Fleur, that eats oranges because it's a simple food, you know. But they still vomit this. excessive fasting, not do exercises like running and riding a bike are one of the things those people do (or not) I think it's better for you to search 'bout it because maybe I explained something wrong. But it's basically that.

One thing I actually really admire about this video is that in the scenes when the girls are dancing outside, there are girls of all different skin tones and body types further proving the point of this song.
The other thing I fell in love with is the idea in it too. The idea of us coming together and supporting one another. It isn't just the media forcing ideals down out throats, it is also everyday people we come into contact with. I love the visuals of them working together and not just melanie doing it alone.

When I first heard this song, I didn't really know what to think about it. I was kind of disconcerted, as she tells it in the song. It slowly became one of my favourite songs of Melanie. It slowly became one of the reasons I'm still fighting against my ED now : Melanie is right, the way I look is not an issue, and eating should not be that bad to me. Thank you for this song, and for these lyrics that became a true mantra to me

This video hit hard. My mother died from an eating disorder almost 5 years ago. She puked and starved herself. Only ate cucumbers and ensure drinks at the end... She told me point blank she would rather be skinny for one day, then be fat the rest of her life. She died st age 46. YOUNG she didn't get to see my son turn 2. It's sad. I dont diet anymore. I focus on taking my medication and taking good care of myself. I will not be my mother
For people who have eating disorders think they are fat and they are insucure. And when the girls in the field pull down her dress to say love yourself and thats why they hugged Melanie. And she ran away because she doesn't deserve it. I don't know. It's something I have been saying to myself.
I think she ran away because of the orange, see when she points at the tree, it to,d her where Kelly was putting her down. That’s why she runs, it was pulling her
"Ooh, I wish I could give you my set of eyes 'Cause I know your eyes ain't working, mmm I wish I could tell you that you're fine, so fine But you will find that disconcerting" This touched my heart.. God I love Melanie Martinez. 🍊

@@rydendestroyedmylife9241 it's not bad, but it'd be cool if there were more artists speaking the truth. I mean, we know about love and heartbreak too well and in the end, they always lead to the same situations
i love how diverse she’s made this video, eating disorders can come in so many different shapes and sizes. the video really shows that people can still be struggling with their eating and we should still be concerned and there to help whether a persons a size 0 or 16.
This song is so good. I can’t even describe it. Actually I can, but this isnt even all of it. First off, the song itself sounds so absolutely beautiful. Its lyrics fit so perfectly with the meaning, “your body is imperfectly perfect, everyone wants what the other one’s working.” An obvious clue to how so many people want what others have, they havent yet stopped to consider they’re perfect regardless. And the beat? There’s no song like this. And I just wanna say Melanie creates some of the best music ever. This music video shows Kelly’s effect on Fleur, which if you haven’t seen K-12 I’ll explain to you. Kelly is a bully in K-12, and is the main cause for Fleur’s eating disorder. I think this is heavily overlooked in the movie, but it has such a good meaning. In the beginning, Crybaby is in the bathroom, overhearing Kelly forcing Fleur to vomit up her strict diet of oranges. Throughout the mv, Kelly continues to bully Fleur into her disorder. Clearly, Kelly bullies Fleur into eating a strict diet of; oranges. This scene 0:33 and the Lunchbox Friends cover portray it very well. Although the separate song is about Crybaby (split hair girl) struggling to find friends she fits with, the cover doesn’t ignore Fleur’s eating disorder. While the rest of the girls at the lunch table are eating varied regular school lunches, Fleur has a plate full of oranges, with her head down, compared to the others, who have their heads high. This shows how Fleur compares so much to her group of fake friends. In another scene (1:35) we see Fleur with her mother and sister, discussing her eating disorder. They want her to promise she won’t eat oranges, like how everyone wishes for someone to realize their perfections, even though some don’t realize just how difficult it is to overcome this. Another beautiful aspect is the music video itself. I just love how in some parts, Melanie dances with groups of women with an orange in her hand. I think this shows everyone’s want and need for perfection, and during the scene where she runs off with the orange. Especially that the women are all of different races and body types, showing anyone can have this insecurity. Another part, she climbs up the ladder to catch Kelly. I think the orange she places in Fleur’s head (by the way, did yk this was a fake head? not cgi or anything!) show Kelly placing that image in Fleur’s mind, that she must strive to perfection. I love the end. So much. It means so much. Crybaby swaps eyes with Fleur, and while some might find this weird, I know what Melanie tried to show by this. By this, she tries showing Fleur her point of view, of her and her body, so Fleur won’t look at herself like that. “I wish I could give you my set of eyes, cause I know your eyes, ain’t working. I wish I could tell you that you’re fine, so fine, but you would find.. that disconcerting.” And, in my all time favourite scene of orange juice and k-12 as a whole, Crybaby and Fleur are again in the bathroom. (this isnt mentioned at the end, but its in the movie right after.) Crybaby says, “Wanna know something I learned about bodies? they don’t define us. we.. aren’t our bodies. They’re just, temporary.” “I know it seems impossible, but try not to expect shallow people to love you. They don’t even have the capacity to understand how amazing you are. And, we all have to learn how to love ourselves without the approval of others.” Fleur: “I know. It’s just extremely overwhelming when everyone around you is making you feel like.. you aren’t good enough. As if, you’re not deserving of the same kind of love if you’re different.” Crybaby: “Everyone is deserving of love. Everyone.” *back in the lunch room* “BANANA 😜” As you can see, I love this piece of art.
The moment where they switch eyes hit me so hard. They both hate themselves but see each other as beautiful. When they switch eyes they get to both see each other’s true beauty for the first time. It gives me chills.
“I wish I could tell you that you’re fine, so fine”
“The way you look is not an issue”
“Your body is imperfectly perfect”

what an artist. melanie is literally changing the history of the music industry, in addition to telling the story of cry baby, with just one movie she managed to seriously portray subjects like bulimia, harassment, objectification of celebrities, pedophilia, psychological torture, transphobia, racism, verbal and physical aggression, psychological harassment, self-esteem problems and it doesn't end there, but the list is long. this woman is doing something never seen before, the representational space she is slowly conquering makes me feel comforted. she deserves the world.

I love how all the girls have different body shapes and races while dancing with Melanie in the field
Lola Lofthouse you mean black and white (or somewhere in between) skinny chicks? so much diversity!!

Mrs. Potato Head: Who are you?
Orange Juice: I’m you but orange
both songs encourage natural beauty in my opinion
@Kalina Genchov arent bodies also categorized as "beauty"?
Mrs Potato Hess is closer to Strawberry Shortcake then Orange Juice
@Kalina Genchov it's not just bulimia also anorexia
i'M yOu BuT *_oRaNgE_* 😂😂
I wish more artists would sing/make songs like this. They all sing about love and heartbreak, but then Melanie is over here speaking the truth, being honest and being amazing. Love u forevs Mel. Keep on being u!
Tienes razón, pero casi nadie tiene la creatividad como para hacer una así de hermosa
artists who sing about love and heartbreak sing about their own experiences and that's amazing, c'mon
@@rydendestroyedmylife9241 it's not bad, but it'd be cool if there were more artists speaking the truth. I mean, we know about love and heartbreak too well and in the end, they always lead to the same situations
There's NF

"Your body is imperfectly perfect, everyone wants what the other one's working"
i love how diverse she’s made this video, eating disorders can come in so many different shapes and sizes. the video really shows that people can still be struggling with their eating and we should still be concerned and there to help whether a persons a size 0 or 16.
Can we all agree that melanie with orange and black hair is GORGEOUS
Yesss
First she made a song about schizophrenia (Mad hatter)
Now a song about Bulimia ( Orange juice )
I hope she makes more videos about mental illness
Actually Mad Hatter is a song about Crybaby realizing shes crazy
@@NaeemaKallon if you watch the video clip you will see that she's suffering from schizophrenia
@@safiazad2865 The storybook and I think Melanie herself said that it’s Crybaby accepting that she’s crazy
I think Schizo was about schizophrenia, although that's an unreleased song
Her first song ever was like smoking or smoke
I wish I could tell you that you’re fine, so fine, but you would find.. that disconcerting.”
And, in my all time favourite scene of orange juice and k-12 as a whole, Crybaby and Fleur are again in the bathroom. (this isnt mentioned at the end, but its in the movie right after.)
Crybaby says, “Wanna know something I learned about bodies? they don’t define us. we.. aren’t our bodies. They’re just, temporary.”
“I know it seems impossible, but try not to expect shallow people to love you. They don’t even have the capacity to understand how amazing you are. And, we all have to learn how to love ourselves without the approval of others.”
Fleur: “I know. It’s just extremely overwhelming when everyone around you is making you feel like.. you aren’t good enough. As if, you’re not deserving of the same kind of love if you’re different.”
Crybaby: “Everyone is deserving of love. Everyone.”

“BANANA 😜”
As you can see, I love this piece of art.
The moment where they switch eyes hit me so hard. They both hate themselves but see each other as beautiful. When they switch eyes they get to both see each other’s true beauty for the first time. It gives me chills.
