Larry was born a year before and like him, I played the tenor saxophone. The problem of old age meant that I had to retire a couple of years ago but it is great that he is still carrying the flag. Lester Young used to question the quality of a solo by saying 'does it tell a story?' Larry meets that on all counts.

Larry’s melodic ideas flow so freely, like water out of spigot. God bless him and keep him with us for many years to come. We know each other well but not by my handle I use on UA-cam.

Larry had to play with the Black musicians before, in the day. He didn't care about the color of anyone singing or playing, he had to prove himself to the Black jazzz musicians. Which Larry McKenna did.

Love Larry’s playing. Solos that resolve and have meaningful conversations with the chord progressions and with groovese.
Larry just passed last year, 11/2023 at 86 years old.
