I really like the customizability and functionality of the device. It shows that Zotac was paying attention and thinking about what people actually would find useful. I love the idea of the radial pieces under the thumb sticks.
I'm happy to see another competitor make it to market. It's going to be a tough sell not having an 80Wh battery. but still being the same price as the Ally X. I am hoping that it doesn't underperform in the market to the point that Zotec isn't willing to take another crack at it and offer an even better device. Competition in the space will continue to push them all to offer better devices. GPD started such a niche market space, Ayaneo jumped in and Valve blew it all up into the mainstream with the steamdeck, and now just about everyone is making something. Still waiting on Dell Alienware as they drag their feet despite having a prototype on public display years before the steamdeck even existed. >_>
I was considering buying a Zotac for a long time because of the OLED screen, but after reading several reviews and user opinions, I rejected this idea. It seems to me that Zotac was a bit late, the premiere was at the end of the year (in the UK where I live, the premiere was supposed to be a month ago), the price was a little higher than Ally X, although based on the reviews it can be concluded that Ally it's a very nice screen, but the RAM capacity is small (at this price and at this time they could have given at least 24GB because next year there will probably be new Asus consoles or Lenovo will definitely have more, as can be seen from the new MSI Claw), weak battery, very noisy (why didn't they add 2 fans like Rog Ally has), terrible software, although they may fix it over time. It's a pity that OneXFly F1 Pro is not a bit cheaper (at least in the UK the price is well over £1,000) because it seems to be a much better option than Zotac when it comes to handhelds with an OLED screen. Overall, I think that Ally X is a much better option than Zotac, which is a pity because I was thinking of buying Zotac, but I am left with buying Ally X or waiting until next year for new consoles, hoping that one of them will have an Oled screen
Seems like you already made your mind up that Ally X is better. I prefer this because of the track pads alone. And 16GB isn't too small. 24GB is arguably overkill. The games that need more than 16GB usually have shit optimization or have memory leaks
@@shadowthehedgehog181 I haven't decided but for now I've done a maximum review of reviews, user opinions plus I've written with several owners of both consoles. What I like about Ally X is, as I wrote, better performance, bigger battery, bigger disk (although I don't consider it a big problem I have a PC and a few disks at hand to possibly replace), work culture (unfortunately I have high requirements in this respect) and refined software (although this is not a problem because if Zotac wants to enter the handheld market it will finally refine the software), what I like about Zotac is the Oled screen (I don't hide that I also have requirements in this respect because at home I use qd oled) and it is the screen that stops me from buying Ally X for now, if I knew that in a year new consoles whether Asus or Lenovo would offer an Oled screen I would wait, on the other hand you can wait for years. As for game optimization, you're right, I know how it looks because I use a PC with RTX 4090 for AAA games and many games still work like... but it seems to me that we won't change that with more and more games like that, so honestly? I'd rather have a little more RAM than less, first because of optimization, second because of Windows, plus another thing, I don't want to replace the console again in a moment, although I don't rule out that if I bought Ally X and next year a console came out that met the most important points for me, i.e. performance, work culture and OLED screen, I would replace it. Of course, in your case, if you want track pada then your choice is limited and I understand why you want Zotac and not, for example, Lenovo.
@@shadowthehedgehog181the trackpads don’t even work 90% of the time. I have the Zone. The trackpads are essentially broken. Everything else is fine other than the software.
No VRR/Freesync wit a 120hz display, is going to be stuttering with AAA demanding games which will not run locked to 120hz unless it has adjustable refresh rate like the Steam Deck. Really should have had at least 24GB or 32GB ram, 16 shared with system is barely enough on latest AAA games. Battery is another issue as well as price.
I don’t believe there are any vrr oled displays on this form factor. Benefit of oled will outweigh vrr for majority of consumers. But of course both would be amazing.
None of this is true. First off, most people are going to be running their games, at best, at 60FPS with these specs. Nobody is going to try to push 120fps, unless it's an older game, or a game optimized enough to run consistently at 120fps. The 120hz screen in that regard, is just a talking point. If the games can't sustain 120fps, there's nothing VRR is going to do to help that. Gold ol fashioned V-sync is just fine for this, which this will be able to do, which is what will help with the stuttering.
Zotac released a 7-in-1 hub, I think specifically for the Zone, but does look cool and comes with a M.2 SSD slot. Very tempted to get it for my iPad Pro and laptop. Great review, btw.
Looks cool! I just got the Onexfly F1 Pro and pre-ordered the MSI Claw 8 AI+, so I’m good for the next year or two I think lol. After the Onexfly I don’t think I can go back to big bezels around the screen.
Everything about this seems awesome except for the 16 GB of RAM, I was hoping for something like 24 GB of RAM. No matter which way you slice it, this device risks major ram limitations on the system or the GPU.
This could gave been a competitor to the Ally X…..back in July. Zotac has screwed up massively at this point by waiting so long and having little to no availability. And only available at Micro Center? Wow.
The screen is still portrait and not native landscape. I think most people would be better off buying the Steam Deck OLED and installing windows on it. That combo gets you most of the features from the Zotac at a much lower cost.
Two questions, because you tested both Ally X and now Zotac. How does Zotac's work culture compare to Ally X? In most reviews I read that Ally X is quiet under load, while in some Zotac reviews I saw that it is very very loud under load in 30W mode? And the performance is how much weaker Zotac is than Ally X, the processor is similar, but Ally X is probably more powerful thanks to the larger amount of RAM.
I don't like how low the trackpads are. Seems like it'd be uncomfortable to hold the handheld and use both trackpads at the same time whereas on my steam deck I can comfortably type using both trackpads while holding the device and still comfortably reach the thumbsticks and dpad with minimal movement
At least you can put whatever you want on it because it's x86. If a company like Zotac attempted to spin up a custom linux distro they'd screw it up anyways.
Currently there are debates whether 8gb for GPU is enough for games, much less 4gb that you most likely get capped at when allocating RAM for the APU. Could've gone for 24gb minimum for this.
