HJAA They've been going for years as I think it was about 12 years ago when I first heard them but they were well established then. Eivør is Faroese. It must be awesome to see them all together in a live concert.
Dude, same here! It's absolutely mindblowingly magical. I've been drawn to Old Norse culture for a while, even though I'm Belgian. Through watching Vikings, I became enthralled by its music and that's how I found my way to Wardruna. I eventually saw them live in NL last year. A fond memory! Hypnotised by the language and the instruments, I started looking things up on the Internet and eventually found my way to the early videos Mr. Crawford put out there. After listening to his beautiful lesson on Ragnar's poem, I became a Patreon and noticed about a week ago that he announced this interview with Wardruna. Albeit it being such a silly little detail, it just blows my mind to see how some things seem to go full circle in your life. Makes you wonder if there is in fact a little bit more mysticism to this world. If you're as excited about Wardruna as I am, I'd really recommend Heilung and Danheim. Although a similar vibe, they're entirely different beats. Skuggsjá is a band Einar (Wardruna's frontman) and Ivar Bjornson (Enslaved) is great if you enjoy same heavy guitars. Kvervandi is godly. Sorry for gushing, I get excited about these things, lol. Maybe it could help someone else. tl;dr what she said
It was the outdoor concert Wardruna, Aurora and Oslo Fagottkor: "HELVEGEN" that made me feel connected to a heritage I am a part of, yet know little about. My search led me to Jackson Crawford and many others on UA-cam, as well as books. It's been amazing. I feel so lucky to have come across this quite by accident today and seeing people I've come to respect so much together, talking and laughing, and not very far from where I live actually, is so cool. Immersing myself in the music, language and traditions of the Scandinavian people makes me feel connected to a place I've never been, but where my Swedish grandfather was born. Really enjoyed this, thanks.
I saw these amazing artists in Los Angeles, but truth be told I came mainly for Eivør. She blew me away! It was dissapointing that she didn't perform a new unofficial song with Wardruna as she had in the past concerts though. I wish I could have said thanked her in person and said PLEASE come back! One of the funniest things happened that night: before the last song performance Einar explained that one should recreate something new inspired by the old. It's not about being an authentic Viking and how we should honor the dead/past but be innovative. Somebody had shouted "Valhalla" to which he responded "ehh that's debatable." It was an honor to see them and Einar was so authentic. He kept saying from the heart to the heart thank you for your support to us.
Saw them in Zürich last January, Best time of my life. Never saw someone as humble as Einar on stage, the man was almost in tears when he saw how all the fans stood up to applaud them after the show.
I don't know what it was, but Saturday the 22nd I was listening to Wardruna at work and got curious if they ever had come or had plans to come to Colorado, only to find out they were here that night and the following night! The show was sold out, so I put money down in case any tickets opened up, and they did for the 23rd! If that ain't Odin interfering, I don't know what is. I was so stoked that I got to attend, and what an amazing show it was. I've listened to both Eivor and Wardruna for years now, so to hear them both sing Helvegen was totally worthy of the applause it got. Their being in town took me by surprise, so the thought occurred to me to message Crawford to make sure he knew as well, but I figured if they're going to Boulder, either they knew he was their or he knew they would be. Glad to hear you enjoyed the concert, man, and that it seems like you guys got on well. Would love to see a video about what you and Einar discussed. His passion for this culture is palpable, and I think even a recounting of the conversation would be enjoyable, if not the live thing. I do find it amusing that the both of you are kind of quiet to-yourself kind of people with big ideas that you still feel compelled to share with the world. Cheers, man! Hope you dug the show.
You know, when my brother and I drove up from Texas to see Wardruna, I ALMOST brought a copy of your book on the slim chance I’d run into you at the venue so I could get it autographed. Kicking myself now. Love the video!
Wow, this is crazy. Wardruna led me to Runes, which led me to your channel, which has led me back to Wardruna. I am glad you got to meet him, he is a great dude and they make unbelievable music.
So many do not know the time and training this man has put in. I was honored to attend the concert. Though I’m less inclined to call it a concert as it’s a ritual from start to finish. Blessed to know some of the folks who he has learned from in our community. Ty for sharing this video.
I saw the show Saturday night and kept an eye out for Jackson Crawford. The show was simply amazing. I managed to find the sweet spot to dance wildly through the whole show without disturbing any guests! My daughter and i had a magical time! Hope to see more of the interview!
That show brought tears to my eyes! Loved it. Thank you for the share, I appreciate it. Wanted to be at the lecture, but the horses needed their pedicures.
Wow!!! Dr.Jackson & Wardruna in the same video!!! This is a dream come true!!! Great norse translator and Great nordic band. I'm very grateful to the Gods!!!🙏 Greetings and love from Spain 👍😉
oooh i love Eivør! i've been thinking about her (and her lyrics) a lot when watching your videos because i keep finding myself thinking "oh, so that's that word!"
I cannot believe that Viking-Folk musicians don´t know who the internationally famed Dr. Jackson Crawford is! They should be in awe of him,- not the other way round. This goes for EVERYBODY in the Scandinavian Viking/ Folk communities: Get with the program already!
to be a fly on the wall for that meeting would have been pretty cool. The knowledge one could learn from simply sitting and listening to the two of you talk to each other would be amazing.
Im so happy that you met with einar and the rest of the band. If i recall i have asked you in the comments before if you’ve heard of them before and what your toughts on their music is, always wanted a video about them, hopefully we will get one after this meeting! Much love from norway.
I found one song of Eivør on UA-cam put it on my playlist. Didnt know much else about her before going to see wardruna which i didnt even know she was going to be there. Im glad i bought the Eivør shirt from there because i realised that was her after looking through my youtube music playlist lol. They all put on the best show possible!
Also! The guy who does the cover art for their albums is rrally cool. I've been following him on social media for a few years, and he's actually how I learned about the band.
I said "what?!" out loud like 20 times when i saw the title.
HJAA They've been going for years as I think it was about 12 years ago when I first heard them but they were well established then. Eivør is Faroese. It must be awesome to see them all together in a live concert.
Completely agree with you. Sometimes foreigners see more interesting things in your culture than you do.
That is because they are not blinded by cultural "programming" and see the things that are taken for granted when we are familiar with things.
Me too
I just saw this video.
I said "what?" 4 times when I read the title.
This is awesome.
Name a more iconic duo; I won’t wait because a more iconic one doesn’t exist.
Wilhelm van Orange, you know it. Except maybe an army of tall water bois
next should be Heilung. That would be great!
Hello Hilbert, love your channel too
Wardruna's gonna put out a country album now
That would be amazing. I want to know what that would sound like
@@GargoyleBard Probably like Cornelis Vreeswijk's Swedish music
Good crossover, cowboy. A lot of people are gonna be happy to see this.
I'm very delighted to see this match! :-) Huge fan of Wardruna and Eivør!
Wardruna got me into my heritage, the whole reason I found and watch your channel!!!! Screaming internally!!!
Dude, same here!

Wonder how many people are repping Wardruna tattoos. I have quite a big one on my forearm with my other Norse tattoos.
So true for me as well!
If you haven't, search Heilung - Lifa here on youtube. Enjoy!

WHAAT WARDRUNA AND JACKSON CRAWFORD IN ONE FRAME IM FANGIRLING SO HARD
Eivor was there, too?! *dies from wonderfulness*
She's such an amazing singer! I love both her and Wardruna. I'm so sad she wasn't with them when they were doing the east coast

You have a really great smile, Doc! Just throwing that out there.
May I say, Dr. You always look so laid back.

This video should have been 9 days and 9 nights long.
HELL YEAH! never saw this collab coming!

Awesome! Beautiful! I got so excited when i saw this. Loooooove Wardruna. Thank you for sharing your experience Dr. Crawford
Even though I would've died to be there, it's been a fantastic feeling to see it through you. You're one of a kind, kúreki.
It was sooooooo awesome to see you at the show! Thank you for saying hello. :)
Wow! I've always thought that Einar + Eivør collaboration was the best crossover ever made, but now I'm watching this :D
YES YES YES! SO GLAD TO SEE YOU TWO MET!
Wow, I was hoping for this video to appear for years. This made my life
Never thought a UA-cam video could make me that happy.
This is awesome, you and Einar are my academic and musical heroes!
That show brought tears to my eyes! Loved it. Thank you for the share, I appreciate it. Wanted to be at the lecture, but the horses needed their pedicures.
First the professor wearing gorgoroth shirt and now interview with Kvitrafn. I think the good doctor is secretly a metalhead.
Makes sense. Have you noticed how he sometimes uses the phrase "very metal" when he goes over the sagas?
Where did Crawford where a Gorgoroth shirt?
It's only 'secret' if nobody knows.
He himself didn’t. He did a video together with another man a few months ago who wore a Gorgoroth shirt.
@@deathmetalhead55 Any chance you remember the name of that video?
This was amazing, but why wasn't this video 6h long?
hahahahah!
I'm glad to see Wardruna being approved of by Dr. Crawford! :-) Great music.
this makes me so happy! hope you had a great time :)
I saw them at Los Angeles a few weeks ago! They absolutely blew my mind when I got the chance to see them live 🖤
I saw these guys in Boston earlier in the year. Great music and great show! Einar is an inspired artist.
now that's the crossover I never knew I want but I totally want it now
I love both their music!
Eivør is amazing! She is my favourite singer, this is a pleasant suprise! 😍
Wow!!! Dr.Jackson & Wardruna in the same video!!! This is a dream come true!!! Great norse translator and Great nordic band. I'm very grateful to the Gods!!!🙏 Greetings and love from Spain 👍😉
I love Wardruna (and Heilung) so much. They opened a new and different soundscape for me.
Now this is the cross over i've been waiting YEARS for!
This was such a great concert. Eivør blew my mind!
Saw Wardruna earlier this year! Amazing! This is like the best video to wake up too.
This is the most ambitious crossover episode yet
This is now officially the most epic video in the history of UA-cam!
THE man himself. Very special group. Some of the best sounding of their style, I would say... Nergal might agree!
Was in Boulder on Saturday to see Wardruna and Eivør, was hoping to run in to you Dr. Crawford...Next time maybe
Thanks for the look back stage with them your lucky wish I could have went to see them.
I was there and I thought I seen you at the theater. It must have been you ! I traveled 900 miles to see this show.

Get with the program already!
Yeah, Dr. Crawford really is a legend...
The good professor could probably start an Asatru cult if he believed in such things to begin with.
Thank god he's sane instead =)
Einar knew who Dr. Crawford was, he'd heard of him.
I saw Wardruna in concert. The band has so much joy in playing the music, truly wonderful
I love their music...
Wow, didnt see that cool video coming! Really liked it
Greetings from germany.
