I'm here July 2024. The way she runs like nothing is stopping me from getting to my child!!! Sadly this is loosely based on the missing not Etan Patz who sadly never got to have this moment 😢
...59 here... I saw the movie since it first came out... to this day, that ending has always teared me up... one of the most wonderful endings to a film ever...
Anyone that watches this scene & doesn't shed a tear, simply needs to see a Dr ASAP...2023 & I've seen this movie at least 20 times...I've cried during this scene at least 20 times
Never forgot the scene of the multiple cars escorting him in and became a cop myself. Retired now, in 2019 I wrote a cop book and included a variation/ homage to the escort scene and cried while I wrote it. I was proud to serve and always will be.
This is one of the best movie endings ever! I remember when this came on HBO in the early 80's. This is probably first movie ever I remember crying at. I was probably about 7or 8 years old and didn't even realize at that age a movie can make you do that. This scene still does it to me to this day. Love it.
It is the best 10 minutes!!! I can watch it dozens of times throughout the years and I am a crying mess, especially when the Connecticut cops want to come along for the ride!!
This is gonna sound lame to some... But the ending of this movie...the police escort....that's why I became and was a Police Officer for over 18 years....
I myself worked for Toronto Police Services in Canada for 15 years and just the fact that you admit to the world as to why you became a police officer is a tremendously wonderful and incredible attribute. I don't know which city and country you served your duties but you certainly are to be admired by all and in my personal opinion there should be more others out there like you with the compassion and emotions that you possess. You should be very proud of yourself because you are of a rare and dying breed and have great respect for people in order to do what you do. Thank you Mike for sharing this most endearing comment of yours as it tells us what kind of person you are and the person we all want to look up to. Much success to you always.
Hey, Mike, that's not lame at all. It is you, the police who keep us safe, and help us out of danger. Consider yourself a hero!! Especially after returning a child after such a long stretch, and considered dead by many. That is a real heartwarming, pleasant surprise for all involved. It is just as heartwarming for by-standers looking on.
This scene gives me chills every time I watch it. I love it when Hirsch yells at the old woman. Great actor. I just watched it again. It actually makes me tear up every time I watch it.
I also love how Manetti's son is looking at Alex with a combo of concern and confusion. Probably helped Alex to see another child his own age there, even if they didn't talk to each other.
FINALLY! Do you have any idea just how many people have been looking for this scene online?! The movie/parts of the movie have been blocked from You Tube for some reason but it is unanimous, EVERYONE agrees that this is one of THE greatest movie endings EVER! Thank you for posting it. :-)
Well, probably more than just a few years ago but yes, there was a time that it was aired on television quite often. Still so happy to find the ending (the movie is good, but it's last 10 minutes are EPIC!) here and have quick/easy access to it. :-)
Im a 50 year old man, and this and only one other movie has ever tore me up and caused tears to fall!! Amazing ending to this fine, but hard to find movie!!
It was the one two punch of the hopeful indifference AND resigned agony rarely seen in a Hollywood film. Kate Nelligan really played this role. Should've won at least a People's choice award.
Yes, this is a superb film with an absolutely wonderful ending. In watching the film after having seen it years before, I recalled that scene where Kate Nelligan tied her dog to a drainage pipe before going into a food store. After having worked in Manhattan for many years, you would not risk tying your dog up that way to go into a store. Odds are, your beloved pet dog would NOT be there when you came out of that store.
I am a 43 adult man and grew up as a child watching this movie and still makes me bawl my eyes everytime I watch this scene. When the music hits when they are the highway the water works come streaming down the more and more she knows something's up and the dog knows and the reunion is great.
"You're welcome New York, if you don't mind, we'd like to come along for the ride." "Be our guest!" Great ending. I betcha those cops were crying like babies when mother and son were reunited.
Of course it's fictional, but I believe Jack Ryan was speaking 'hypothetically'. I lose my sh*t while watching the ending, crying like a little baby LOL. :-D
Jack you can bet your life that the whole world was shedding tears of joy at mother and son reunion. This is a rare occurrence in life of this kind of event ever taking place. I worked for Toronto Police Services for many years and more times than you can count; the results never go this way. That is a fact.
I’m a NYC Firefighter and I I have a 5 year old boy and that scene where Connecticut and NY Stare police said these on the radio i got chills throughout my whole body , just say the movie today and I absolutely l loved it !! That ending was a amazing
@@LS1LT1 I always cry like crazy at this ending. I also cry for Stockard Channing when Kate yells at her - " WHEN I CAN'T STAND ANYMORE, WHEN I CAN'T STAND ANYMORE "!! Poor Stockard looks like her heart was stabbed at that moment. All the actors were great! Who else knew that William H Macy was in this movie?
This final scene is wonderful. To rediscover the child after so much suffering and feeling of loss. I remember I was in my twenties when I saw this movie. Later I got married and I had a child and I came to understand a little better the meaning of all this.
The greatest gift a mother can ask. For that why you should always know where your children are at all times I will always luv this show God bless the writers for this movie
Seriously, all the feels!! The swell of music, the mother's realization when she sees him come around the car door, THAT RUN TO EACH OTHER!! I have never watched this scene and not cried! I'm teary just writing this!
I worked at a theater in yr. after high school. We played this. After seeing it, I recommended it to people asking "What's good?" Excellent film and Judd Hirsch proved he was more than "Taxi".
Anneke Smit There's just 1 proplem with sites like this...They want your credit card info and I have been screwed too many times doing that, but thx anyway!!
+Sheri E. This website doesn't ask for such information. My 15 year old son (who obviously doesn't haven a creditcard) uses it for over a year now and i started a few weeks ago. The only thing that's annoying is that when you click on play, an add appears on screen. That happens two or three times and then the movie begins. without interruptions. You can watch series and films.
I’ve been watching this movie off and on for almost 40 years and have cried at the ending each time. Born and raised in NY, I love the scenery and nearly begin to bawl as the car travels over The Brooklyn Bridge. Excellent movie! I ♥️ NY
@S M totally. what's weird is that kid was less than a year older than me; i remember being allowed to just wander aimlessly around stores & shit back then (for lack of a better description - i've always been aware of my surroundings), and knew to have my mom paged if i couldn't find her for some reason...but man, once that adam walsh story hit the news, it was all over, no more going off by myself while my mom shopped. i think about those times often, and the danger i (and other kids) potentially faced. scary shit.
@S M man, that's some f*cked up & traumatizing sh!t. i'm glad you & your friend were able to get away safely and unharmed. really tho man...who does that kind of sh!t? people are really messed up. go to a swingers club or bath house or some sh!t...leave little kids and other unwilling people alone.
Her performance here is stunning yet subtle. Without her speaking a word you can see her thinking... is this real... am I really seeing this.. and then the moment she knows
After all these years.... I still can't get through this without crying..... this is the most powerful ending to a movie that I have ever seen... and I've been watching movies for over 60 years...... nothing comes close to this.
This is my FAVORITE movie and THE BEST ending to a movie EVER!! I’ve watched this probably a million times and STILL cry!!! Watching it before I had children was unreal but after I became a mother... OMG!! Thank you for posting this!!!! ❤️
Oh, my goodness, thank you for posting this. I watched this movie a hundred times when I was a teenager. It's one of my favorites and I love the ending...
Just watched it for the umpteenth time. I still drown in my tears watching a mother surprisingly reunited with her child, who she thinks she'll never see again. What a heartwarming ending!
Great emotional ending........ The police correctly prevented the journalist with microphone in hand from advancing into the scene..........some moments are too precious to be contaminated by the glare of the media.
I remember my mom showing me this movie on HBO years ago. The ending shocked me...the whole time he was presumed dead he was in the home of an elderly disabled woman whose brother kidnapped him for the sole purpose of caring for the woman. This movie was filmed (and loosely based on) around the time of the disappearance of Etan Patz, who’s disappearance remains unsolved to this day even though his murderer is now rotting in prison. The early 1980’s were a very scary time with the disappearances of many young children, including Adam Walsh. Such a pivotal movie for its time.
🙄 this is what I say to Young ppl growing up now who say they love the 80s and wish they lived then. I tell em oh yeah, divorce, missing children, nuclear war fear, AIDS, Yeah... growing up then was a breeze. Not. Our Music was at least better though😆🎵🎶
This whole movie is without a word of a lie one of the most heartwrenching and yet spectacular movies ever made and the joyous ending that goes with it brings tears to young and old no matter who you are. I love this movie with a passion and it will go on to captivate people's emotions for many years to come. What a classic!
@@ginac733 Thanks Gina for sharing that. You sound like an amazing and caring mother and those boys of yours are lucky to have such a strong woman by their side. God Bless You!
@Ethans husband haha, no. Lots of tears. I so love this movie, it was amazing and the end was perfect!! I hadn't seen it in many years. Makes ya cry and smile! 🙋✝️🇺🇲💙
@@ginac733 Hey Gina: received your reply and thanks for that. Keep up the good work darling. Your boys will grow up to be loving and caring because of your love, support and strength. God Bless You!
I have this movie. Never doubt a mothers instincts and just when a mother is about to doubt her instincts DON'T- check every crack pot phone call even if they say they're having tea with Jesus. I was watching ADAM for the 100th time and was very pleased to see this on your channel. There is a huge lesson with this story one: that the detective disregarded a crack pot caller-Telling the mother to let go they had the suspect 2: the mothers friend learned NEVER tell your friend when to stop looking for your child and could use some therapy and one her son learned=Moms love never, ever stops.
Seen this movie 100 times....im 33 years old. Was never able to find it over the years. Every once in a while it will be on TV late at night or early in the morning. Such a good movie
This was a very popular video rental back in 1983. I can remember my father calling numerous video stores for weeks seeing if the movie was available for rent. It was always being rented. We finally got to rent it weeks later. And even though I was only 7 at the time, I can see why this movie was so popular. Very suspenseful and very emotional when the police find Alex, and the police cars escort him to his mother and to see the mother and son reunion was so awesome!
I worked at a UA Cinema in 1982 or 1983 as a senior in high school. This was one of our movies. My buddy and I would watch when the women would come out of this movie just to see every single one of them crying and not just crying a little all bawling all the way to car and the husband comforting them. Of course being in high school I didn't really understand I just made fun kind of but I can see how the director brought the works out and then ended the movie right when everybody had to leave in the middle of a good cry.
"Am I under arrest?" Oh, but he is so-o cute when he says that!! He doesn't even have any idea about the wonderful reunion he is about to get. As soon as he screams 'Mom!', my river of tears turn into a lake of tears.
This is one of those films that I've never ever forgotten. Kate Nelligan is absolutely BRILLIANT and I've always loved Judd Hirsch and Stockard Channing. And omg, the scene when Nelligan is in the tub and she has the confrontation with Channing on whether or not to just move on --- so freaking intense. I've looked for this movie several times throughout the years and could never find it. Thank you for posting the ending. I just re-watched it for the first time in decades and challenged myself to not cry. FAIL! I didn't make it past the line, "...we'd like to come along for the ride." By the end, I was a complete wreck. THAT's some great film-making right there.
Nearly four decades after I saw this movie as a small child, yep, still makes me tear up after all this time. One of the first movies I saw when my parents got cable
watching this as a little kid i so thought wow, every human matters so much. I never saw color or ethic background, just every human. I actually searched for this last year not recalling the name of the movie. i was ecstatic when i found it. after all these years it still brings back the same effect. beautiful. ty for sharing
My daughter and I had been talking about movies with big tear payoffs. This is still hard in my memory as one of the best. Thanks for posting this so I could show her.
We were watching this at a family dinner get together (I was about 10 or 11). My uncle, who is one of the toughest b****rds I know, was weeping at the end of this movie. 😭❤
Dammit. Can't stop the tears from falling. :( Beautiful ending. Just wish it was like that for all the little ones still missing but sadly that's reality. But great movie.
I don't cry very often, but 4 movie endings have always made me cry--Pride of the Yankees (with Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig), Rudy (with Sean Astin in the lead), The Champ (with Jon Voight and Ricky Schroeder) and this movie and this one is by far the most tear jerking. I would defy any parent to watch this and not get blubbery at the end.
Who still here in 2024 and this part of the movie still hits hard the same way! 🥹🥺😢😭

Kate Nelligan's reaction to seeing her boy, dropping her groceries, running to him. She's a superb actress. She never gave up hope.

Before we had cell phones, social media, amber alerts.....
A time where kids actually played out side. Like I did. You couldn't get us to come home.
This whole movie is without a word of a lie one of the most heartwrenching and yet spectacular movies ever made and the joyous ending that goes with it brings tears to young and old no matter who you are. I love this movie with a passion and it will go on to captivate people's emotions for many years to come. What a classic!
Yes! Just caught a tear watching the end. This was why I watched out over my 2 sons so close, I have never forgotten this amazing movie. 🙋💕✝❤🇱🇷
@@ginac733 Thanks Gina for sharing that. You sound like an amazing and caring mother and those boys of yours are lucky to have such a strong woman by their side. God Bless You!
@@julielynch5458 just got this! Thank you dear, I am mama bear alright, and protective for a good reason. God bless you Julie! 🙋✝️🇺🇲💙
Oh my!!...I enjoyed this movie back in the day..would love to see the full movie again.
Love this movie, Cry all the time. Wish they play it on tv again
It won’t replay on tv bc it’s too wholesome. Nothing on that box now except BS 😫
All they want is reality shows and woke stuff
Oh, take me back. This was a great movie. I was in college in the 80s when it first aired.
I've watched this so many times and I still get chills an cry
That scene and the mother yelling about not giving up when she can't take it anymore... I remember so well
Cried when I was little boy watching this and now cry as a 40 year old man with a child that age . This movie stayed with me for decades .
I cry when the reunion music began to play in the background until the end of the movie
2021. This movie is great! I wish all of our missing children could be found like this!!!! I'm literally sobbing! 😭😭😭
This was my favorite movie as a child and I watch this ending scene so many times I wore out my VHS
I still cry at this! THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME !!
Seen this movie 100 times....im 33 years old. Was never able to find it over the years. Every once in a while it will be on TV late at night or early in the morning. Such a good movie
I recorded this off my local Fox affiliate years ago
This was a very popular video rental back in 1983. I can remember my father calling numerous video stores for weeks seeing if the movie was available for rent. It was always being rented. We finally got to rent it weeks later. And even though I was only 7 at the time, I can see why this movie was so popular. Very suspenseful and very emotional when the police find Alex, and the police cars escort him to his mother and to see the mother and son reunion was so awesome!
Omg I cry every time. This movie never gets old. Let’s call it an oldie but goody.
Just watched this movie last night. After searching for it for a long time, I finally got it in the mail yesterday. This ending gets me every time.
I used to have this on tape and I watch this part so much this the tape got ruined. Thanks for posting. Best ending ever!
Same here my tape broke
I now have a digital copy
I have it
@@lilapease5841 I finally downloaded a copy using Amazon fire stick
This ending gets me every time I view it. It's wonderful. This is a great film and the acting is superb.
"Am I under arrest?" Oh, but he is so-o cute when he says that!! He doesn't even have any idea about the wonderful reunion he is about to get. As soon as he screams 'Mom!', my river of tears turn into a lake of tears.
Hopefully Malveena a got a nice reward and she will have quite a story the next time Jesus sits down to have his tea. 😎
I agree, she is the unsung hero!!
I was 11 when this movie came out. Use to have it on vhs mid 80s/early 90s.
Been lookin for it for years to no avail :(
@@dentoldani3460 I ordered mine from EBAY.
Still a tear jerker. Wish they all could be such happy endings
Nearly four decades after I saw this movie as a small child, yep, still makes me tear up after all this time. One of the first movies I saw when my parents got cable
Same here I cry every time like it’s the first time watching it
This is absolutely one of the best endings I have ever seen. RIP Wilma...
The reunion...her face...oh my heart ❤❤❤❤
The end of this movie blew me away as a kid... I saw this at home on vhs... The ending was riviting...
Still crying in 2021. Love the ending. Watched this when I was a kid.
watching this as a little kid i so thought wow, every human matters so much.
Omg I have looked 4ever for this movie, I will settle already for the ending. Thank you for putting this on youtube!!!
We were watching this at a family dinner get together (I was about 10 or 11). My uncle, who is one of the toughest b****rds I know, was weeping at the end of this movie. 😭❤
2021 and I still cry like a little girl. Great movie!
I was only 3 when this came out n I still cry now at 42 😢😢. Hold tight to your kids.
Love this movie! Best ending ever! Been trying to find the scene where Melvina calls detective minetti and asks when they're coming to pick the boy up
Doesn't matter how many times I watch... I'm always in tears. 😭
Dammit. Can't stop the tears from falling. :( Beautiful ending. Just wish it was like that for all the little ones still missing but sadly that's reality. But great movie.
Thank you for posting! I don't think this scene will ever not reduce me to tears.
It is a shame this film never had a commercially released music score. This piece is absolutely beautiful.
One of the greatest and most beautiful movies of all time!
I remember this movie when i was a kid. Still, in my opinion, the greatest ending of any movie ever.
Saw this movie in the theater. The ending still makes me laugh and cry and want to cheer like we did in the theater.
