Trapped was a brutal show tbh , having to vote each other off and then getting locked in the tower for the rest of their lives 💀
You do know that they weren’t locked in for life?
@@fling4206 no mate they’re stuck there forever
@@fling4206 They are; my mate Jack is still in there. God bless your soul Jack but that's the rules of the game, pal.
Brooo I loved that shit😂😂
And yeah bro they're skeletons now
No matter how much it cost, CBBC in that era was totally worth it. No other broadcaster, let alone children's channel has ever had such a concentration of class A bangers ever. Almost every show you watched on CBBC before and after school was a classic.
100%
I agree but smtv was as good as anything cbbc did.
Yep
CBBC was free so why are you talking about cost?
@@scotttowers1759 it costs the BBC money to run. its free to watch, not free to run
Dick and Dom, Trapped, Horrible Histories, Raven, Sarah Jane Adventures and Shaun the Sheep. Absolute classics!
I'd chuck Tracy Beaker into that list too, banger show
Also, Hedz, Fergus McPhail and Dick & Dom Adventures.
LET THE CHALLENGE…BEGIN

Yo, where 'Watch my Chops' & 'Yvonne of the Yukon' at?!
I'll never forget everyone playing 'bogies' in school lmao. Good times

My favourite was the one where they started shouting in a movie theatre and all the kids started joining in.
I used to shout bogies too. My children were so embarrassed.

Hello, just to let you know the bungalow didn’t get cancelled for being too funny.
It went off air because it wanted to end with everyone wanting more (including the BBC).
How do I know? I directed every episode but 2.
Good video though!
You did an excellent job. Give us some more inside knowledge! I loved DC Harry Batt the best.
Thats super awesome!! Dont mind the mindless youtube misinformation, its unfortunately that and bright colours that get the kids with mummies ipad to click.

Edit: mentioned in the video… I had my suspicions
@@sassythesasquatch8006 well, I’m going to have to disabuse you of that notion because they were not. And I know that for a fact.
Good to get the inside info - I always thought Dick and Dom would go on to greater things.
And what was that other series they did where they used a sofa and a green screen to play out surviving things like shark attacks - can't remember much about it - 'cept it was hillarious!
Dick and Dom literally got banned for being too funny lmao

Irish lad here. I was raised on mostly UK kids shows. Loved all the shows you covered in this, especially D & D. I was absolutely devastated when they ended that show. I feel bad for the kids of today. They'll never get to experience the entertainment that shows like these provided.
Trust me bro horrid Henry was my thing lol
@@naytay7538 Yeah that was another good one haha
Were there many shows from the Republic for kids? Us in Northern Ireland literally 100% of our shows were English (not even any Scottish or Welsh).
Oh wait no there was ROY too, that was from down south,. It I barely ever watched it. I remember finding the Dublin accents really funny. No Northern Irish kids shows. Just the NI CBBC présenter announcing shows during the break which doesn't count for anything.
@@Yamezzzz It wasn't on CBBC, but Give My Head Peace was a show for adults (which kids watched as well) which came from the North. Kind of like a Belfast Derry Girls, but with adults.
Not the same thing, because it wasn't a kid's show, but it was something that came from the North that kids would also watch.
@@Yamezzzz Morbegs, Roy and Adventures of Piggly Winks were the only ones I can remember. We also had The Den and Dustin's Daily News. Quizzone I'm fairly certain was Irish. The Den was probably the biggest kids show in the republic. There were a few Irish kids shows dating back to about the 60s or 70s as well. I can't remember the names of them, I just remember Republic Of Telly making fun of them.
Everyone remembers the 'Devil Finger' sketch from Stupid, but the hidden gem of the show was the sketch with the divorced scoutmaster dad sending his scouts to get badges that were all a roose used for him to spy on his ex wife and her new partner, the "fancy man". Absolute comedy gold but way over most viewers' heads.
I also liked Mr Quiver, an intimidating schoolmaster who turned incredibly shy around other adults.
I remember being bored one day in 2016 (I was 10 at the time), so I went out on my bike and ended up meeting Dick and Dom literally two minutes from my house when they were filming for an episode of Absolute Genius. To this day I still cannot believe it happened and I have a picture on my shelf framed. Absolute legends and will always be two icons of my childhood.
I met the first King from Stupid in Edinburgh a few years ago, I mentioned the show and he actually seemed quite touched that adults still remembered it from twenty years ago. As a performer I can imagine adult audiences are pretty ephemeral, whereas if you imprint on kids they’ll remember you forever. That must feel pretty special
Marcus Brigstocke is a legend! The best King Stupid by far

🎵You've been found guilty of a howling showbiz crime! So welcome to The Slammer, where you're gonna do your time!🎵

90s-00s CBBC was great for diversity too. I grew up in a completely white area and I genuinely believe the programming I watched as a kid made me far more accepting of other cultures. I was genuinely surprised to find out people were racist as I got older.
This was a fun video. First I've watched on this channel but I've subscribed for more.
Thanks for watching Carl!
Tell me about it. The world felt more mature to me as a child, I always had respect for adults.
Now I'm an adult and it feels like I'm surrounded by children.
@@DukeofBlasphemy
Social media has something to do with this.
Literal adults, in their 40s, doing dances as a child would hopscotch around the playground.
No wonder you feel surrounded by children.
I wanted Michael Underwood to be my big brother when I was wee. CBBC was all I was allowed back then, never questioned it but a lot of parents are grateful for a channel that will entertain kids in the knowledge it doesn't spew up American rubbish and violence. Guess it's just cos we haven't been involved in a direct war for over 80 years that violence is so common and kids want to be adults as soon as possible.
Yes, it was a fantastic use of a wide diversity of presenters and actors in an effortless way without seeming to push it for the sake of it.
I'm American, but when Netflix started streaming in 2007 there were some CBBC shows they had. One in particular I remember watching was The Sparticle Mystery!
Never saw all of it, but I enjoyed the ones I did see.
That show was class
Legendary show, glad to hear it made its way overseas in some form.
I met Dom as an 8 year old before this show even aired and he was one of the nicest people I'd ever met. He did magic tricks for myself and several other kids for HOURS as we waited to be on another show for the BBC haha. He somehow forced 3 foam balls into my hand and it blew my little mind at the time haha. Very fond memories from that day!
P.S great video. Subscribed!
Dom is my favourite, even more after reading that. Lucky you!
Dick and dom was a masterpiece tbh, it was bloody brilliant

Fun fact about Trapped, the voice was played by Lynda Baron who some will know was the lady from Come Outside.

oh what thats crazy!
Rest in peace, Lynda.

Da bungalow was never cancelled! Dick and Dom chose to end it after 4 years because they wanted to move on to other projects so they ended it while it was on top. If da bungalow was still on TV today I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the same show we grew up with due to all the annoying TV restrictions that now exist... Back then they both got away with anything which was why its one of the best shows ever
I think it’s time was limited no matter what
What new TV restrictions, the reason it wouldn't be as good is because they would have run out of ideas and because of the move away from TV to streaming and UA-cam it probably wouldn't have been taken up, with the cut backs. Which is a shame as TV shows have shown themselves to have a much higher and consistent quality.
I’d definitely love to see a part 2 of this. Brought back a lot of memories for things I grew up with, although I think they were mostly repeats a few years after they were originally broadcast. Horrible Histories and Sarah Jane Adventures were my favourite CBBC series from what I remember
haha yeah there's defo a lot of shows I could off included, maybe I'll do a part 2! thanks for watching!

My son actually met Dick and Dom at Butlins when he was about seven, and they were doing a kid's workshop event while we were on holiday there. They were really nice, friendly and down-to-earth guys.
I also remember The Shiny Show on CBeebies - that was as popular with adults as it was with kids. The kids loved it for the wacky characters, fun quizzes and songs, but there were plenty of in-jokes and subtle innuendos for the adults as well - that of course were designed to go sailing over the heads of little kids. They only made about two series before it got cancelled, and it's damn hard to find any clips of the show even on UA-cam now, but it has a special place in my son's and my heart.
never knew the shiny show had all that lmao
Yes The Shiny Shooow
Good news, the entire Shiny Show has been on UA-cam for the last 6 years

@@phatmemer69 ametures. My little brother played the opening on repeat for 15 minutes once.
they weren't banned for being too funny. the producers and writers all agreed it was time to end the show while it was still great, and while they still had all the freshest and best ideas. the show was never cancelled.
I just say cancelled for the title, in the video I don't mention they got cancelled, because they didn't
"Cancelled" is clickbait for rightards who enjoy pretending they're being persecuted. You see loads of comments under clips of old comedians saying how they were "cancelled by teh sjws" when those comedians are still working happily, touring and successful; or "This show was cancelled by teh snowflakes" under old sitcoms... that ran for a dozen seasons in the 70s and only stopped when the creators decided to do something else. Stick "Cancelled" in a youtube title and the Daily Mail gammons are guaranteed to click it and spend half an hour fuming at how persecuted they are. I'm not attributing these traits to the OP here who seems like a cool guy, but it's a good tactic to use the word in the title as it generates activity.
@@phatmemer69 Yeah I admittedly clickbaited and lied to all these people, so what?

Nothing to watch on CBBC these days. UA-cam and streaming is the best place to get a classic CBBC fix!!
I don't think it's a shame at all. Idk what this bommer attitude is from someone clearly of an age where you watched this. Odd you'd rather see it die and get no viewers than move it online where the children are now. And especially to ge them off the hell hole of YT kids
@@nondescripthandle212 Not sure where you got this 'boomer' from, I grew up with CBBC in the early 2000s.
Where did I say exactly that I wanted it to die?
The main guy on Trapped is Simon Greenhall...he played Alan Partridge's geordie mate Michael and he also does the Compare the Meerkat voices (Sergi and Aleksandr)....Simples!
Also did the voice over for Storage Hunters UK and played Neville in Benidorm.
It's still funny today as an adult. Think of it the Eric Andre show for kids. It's a shame nothing of its kind will be seen again

The Slammer is hugely underrated. It's format did became the biggest show in the world after all. I wouldn't be surprised if Simon Cowell saw it and say "Yep, I'll have that.".
Anyone else remember The Raven?
Trapped was one of the greatest children’s game shows of all time in my opinion. I remember discovering Trapped for the first time when I was 10 years old - me and my family were at my nan’s house, and playing on the TV was a re-run of Series 3 Episode 10 on CBBC.
raven > trapped
Dick and Dom were recently on JaackMaate's Happy Hour recently and it was a fantastic insight to how they came about the Bungalow

thank you.
Glad I could trigger memories
Used to sit with our kids crying with laughter at Dick and Dom...BO-GIEEEEES! 🤣🤣🤣
We used to have it on as my nephew watched it and even my mum found bogies hilarious
It was a bit annoying how some of the Bogies segments were blatantly staged with actors though. I vaguely remember one in a courtroom set that was fake.
@@thebatman4279 I never noticed that, but of course they wouldn't have got away with it in a real courtroom...shouting bogies would definitely be contempt!!

The best show
A bit of a late comment, but in Australia we imported from - or partially created - a lot of our shows with the British and the Canadians. The British shows were always better, and I think the best example of this was Splatalot:
Splatalot was essentially junior wipeout, serving as a collaboration between UK, Australia and Canada, with the adult cast dressed in Blue green and red respectively
Depending on where it was aired, the hosts were from that country. In Britain, it was Dick and Dom, in Australia it was Kayne Tremils and Scott Tweedy, and in Canada - which is the only version online you can easily find - it was hosted by the unfunniest people in the world
dick and dom 😭 remember shouting bogeys in random shops all the time because of them haha
It was a problem hahah
The sticker game was better imo
Man CBBC was brilliant. Obviously I’m way out of its age range demographic but so many of the shows now look like CGI trash. Anyone remember the good shows like Wolfblood, Young Dracula, Wizards vs Aliens, Tracy Beaker, Sparticle Mystery?

My god! So many nostalgic shows from our childhood. That first show definitely was a massively incredible show for me personally (I still remember and prefer the boogies sketch they always used to do every so often, still brilliant telly to this day!)
And OMG, the slammer! I love that as a kid, not really as much now but it still good anyways :0
Great video and great channel! Keep up the amazing work :)
The fact some of the acts on the slammer went on to bigger things shows that it had a decent talent radar
Dick and Dom in da Bungalow, hands down the funniest thing on television during the early 2000's. Now look what the kids have got... diddly! diddly, diddly! SQUIT!
it's corn
Shows I remember watching as a kid were dick and dom, story makers, big cook little cook (literally know all the words to the songs to this day), woody the woodpecker, balamory😂, brum, come outside, probably loads of classics I can’t think of atm, good times
Your production quality is insane bro, keep up the grind. Hella underrated 🔥
You neglected to mention the most interesting part of Trapped: the saboteur. Every round, one of the kids was secretly told to betray the other kids and ruin the game for them. If the team succeeds, the saboteur is trapped. If they fail, they need to vote on who the saboteur was, trapping whoever got the most votes.
Also, Stupid was the best show here, everyone in my school loved it and quoted it constantly.
No joke, I was on the bus the other day and heard a child, had to be around 9 or so, scream "Bogies!" at the top of his lung.
It was bizarre hearing that again after over a decade and a half

I loved these growing up. How did we go so wrong in such a short period of time?
You missed out the CBBC series Down The Chute that used to play clips of The Young Ones and other adult comedies as well as suitable children comedies. Down The Chute was about a skinny emo looking guy that fell down a chute for rejected VHS tapes with no way out, she would talk to the camera and play the VHS tapes around him like a clip show.
The Chute was great. I still sing the 'everybody loves my legs' song from time to time.

@@TranscendentLion so here's the evidence of someone else trying to find the same program, it was definitely early 90s on channel 4 this is what he/she said and its from a forum from 18 years ago... "My first is a really vague memory, from early in the 90s, I think used to be on midday on weekdays. It was live action, about a boy who discovered this remote control and a robot (I think). There was a button on the remote control that sucked him into this strange TV show. I also remember something about a clock, and him always looking at it. There were also some struggles as he went through wormholes (or portals) as he dropped the remote control and had to make sure he didnt lose it (again, I think)."
All I can add to this is that the robot they talk of is like a manquin with one of them white masks on that the dance troupe The Jabawockys use from Americas Got Talent, they would use robot like movements next to a big clock in the middle of a shopping mall, and there was a big emphasis on the clock and time, like a countdown to something. Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow, The Slammer, Chuckelvision, Bodger and Badger, Get Your Own Back, Bamzooki (Robot Wars with computer generated bugs), Raven, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Basil Brush, 50/50, Kerching and Smart.
There was so much good kids content in the early 2000’s. Honestly if they still made these shows but orientated towards adults, they’d be a massive hit. I want to see 30 year old Jim send a crude drawing into SMART and adults with various back and joint problems compete in 50/50

Dick & Dom saw me through recovering from operations as a child, and they still make me laugh today. For this reason they will always be up there amongst my comedy heroes.
I used to love these shows and wanted to go on any of them. I’m really happy I was born when I was getting to watch all these great shows. Not like todays kids shows are just not what they use to be.
We played a game called Bollocks, at school. You'd take turns saying "bollocks", getting louder, until someone bottled it, and or got a bollocking. Hence 'bollocks'. We played this in the early to mid 90s. Best place to play it was always a sports hall. The acoustics meant you could yell bollocks at the apex of the high roof, and the yell would land on the other side, completely missing the teacher in the middle of the hall. We discovered so many ways to throw our voice playing that game. Pretty sure Dick n Dom would have played bollocks (or a variation of it) when they were at school and used this as inspiration.

This brought back a treasure trove of memories I'd long since buried. I actually remember most of these, though some more vaguely than others. I really enjoyed the Slammer, so much that I still think about it a few times a year, and Trapped was really good. It's what inspired my style of writing. As for Dick and Dom in da Bungalow, my memories of it are scattered and fragmented, but I still remember the episode when they moved into a Bungalow mansion. The humour in that show was something else.
Something else you didn't mention in this was a show similar to Trapped, called Raven. I think it was a bit after Trapped, and less spooky, but it was more in the vein of medieval fantasy-like trials. It had a similar air of mystery and while I don't think it was as good as Trapped, it was still entertaining in it's own right. That's all I can remember, though.
You sure know a lot about drugs, you alright?

Holy shit, I completely forgot about the devil finger stuff. Thanks for solving a forgotten childhood mystery.
I wish to add one crucial detail to the format of Trapped.
The earpieces you see each contestant (or Unfortunate as they were named by the show) are so that The Voice can communicate directly with one Unfortunate designated that floor's Saboteur. It was their job to sneakily ensure the rest of the contestants failed under direction from The Voice, such as hiding body parts to prevent the completion of a Frankenstein's monster or to convince the others to answer a question incorrectly.
The reason for this twist was that, if the Unfortunates succeeded in spite of the Saboteur, then the Saboteur would be automatically trapped on that floor. If the Unfortunates failed their objective, they had to vote on who they thought was the Saboteur, and the person with the most votes would be trapped instead, irrespective of whether or not they were the Saboteur.
In essence, Trapped was Among Us in gameshow form.
And yes, this is your cue to shout "NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRD"
