    This is great! I’m considering switching from the c70 and Blackmagic but the black shading has me worried. I switch from 24 to 60fps constantly. Do you need to black shade every time you change recording frame rates?

    But you can't somehow make the picture standard on UA-cam 16: 9 - and not these narrow stripes) I want an image in full screen

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  2 роки тому

      You could crop in to make it 16:9, but that wouldn’t be a true representation of the captured image. When shooting 6K 50fps, you can only capture it at a 2.39:1 aspect ration. So to make it 16:9 after the fact does not show the full sensor.

      @@mateoallen This is of course a big minus of this camera (((I shoot at 16: 9 on canon r5 - it turns out fire) Without Raw. In normal mode, a very clear image comes out

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  2 роки тому +2

      @@100amper it definitely can be a downside if 16:9 high frame rates is what you shoot mainly. The Komodo image quality is objectively better than the R5 especially in dynamic rage. So it just depends what your priorities are. Personally I shoot 24 most of the time and the 6K raw on the Komodo is pretty hard to beat. And then anything I need higher frame rates for I usually am delivering in 2.39:1 anyway. So for me it is perfect, but it won’t be for everyone.

    Awesome video but no examples of interior lighting… mine has a flicker at 50fps… any idea why?

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  2 роки тому

      All cameras have this to an extent when shooting high frame rates. Cheap lights produce a flicker usually produce a flicker that can be seen when slowed down. Usually the solution is to adjust your shutter speed to a multiple of 60. Gets a bit complicated when you are using shutter angle to figure out what that number is. I usually just sift through until I find a shutter angle where the flicker is minimal or goes away. I have found that the flicker shows up more on the Komodo than other cameras. I wonder if it has something to do with the global shutter, or it could be shooting 50 vs 60 fps.

      At 1:50 I talk about selecting the widescreen aspect ratio. In new firmware updates the naming for this has changed to only include the aspect ratio which is 2.4:1. As long as you shoot in this aspect ratio, you can capture up to 50fps.

  • @topicruben
    @topicruben Рік тому

    Exactly like the bmpcc 6K Pro that goes up to 50fps in 6K, but if you shoot wide it goes up to 60fps. Thanks, man

    So Format should be 6k2:4:1, Recording frame-rate 50 and time base 24? I just got my Komodo 2 days ago btw.

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  2 роки тому

      Yup, that’s correct! I think you could also have your time base be 50. Having your time base be 24 will just slow it down automatically for you in camera.

  • @director-baldhead6650
    @director-baldhead6650 3 роки тому +1

    When shooting 6k 2-4-1 @ 50 FPS, do you do 40% or 50%? For slow motion

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  3 роки тому +1

      I prefer 50%. But the Komodo automatically converts your 50 to 24 in camera. So if anything you’ll need to speed back up to 24 if wanted.

    Hey Man, might be a stupid question. I just picked up the Komodo, coming from the a7siii's as well. I normally shoot 50fps on the sonys, and bring into a 25fps timeline. And it plays at normal speed, but obviously gives me the option to slow down up to 50%.
    However when I bring the 40fps Komodo footage into the 25fps timeline, its slow moed. Is that because 40fps isnt double 25 fps? If so, how do I go about using the 40fps? Do I just times all the slow 40fps footage by 1.6x to get normal speed, or is there a better way of doing this?
    Thanks very much!
    (I'm wanting the footage to playback at normal speed, but be able to use those extra 15fps to slow down a little if I need to)

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  Рік тому

      Great question! There are a couple ways to go about this.
      The first is in camera. There is a setting in your menu called “Project Time Base”. This is essentially dictates what frame rate the footage is converted to. If this setting is set to 24, 25, etc… then it will slow the footage down for you in camera if you shoot at a higher frame rate. If this is set to the same higher frame rate that you are shooting in then the footage will play at normal speed.
      The other option is to leave your time base at 24, 25, etc… so that the slowing down is done for you in camera, then with the specific clips in post you need brought back to normal speed you do exactly what you said and just speed it up by a percentage or you can even “interpret” the footage in most editors and just tell it to process the clip at 40fps, 50fps, etc… there is a also a tool in premiere called “rate stretch”. You can essentially bring in the separate audio file recorded on camera which is recorded at normal speed and then bring in the slowed down clip and then use this tool to stretch the footage to the audio. This will also get your footage playing at normal speed.

      Yeah I think it always been the case, but when I was watching reviews before I purchased the camera everyone was saying that you could only get 50fps once you bump down to 5K so it was a surprise to me to see that there was actually a format to achieve 50fps and 6K.

    Thanks! You mention 16:9 and then say widescreen, but isn’t that 16:9? I appreciate any insight here- thanks!

    • @mateoallen
      @mateoallen  3 роки тому +2

      For video, 16:9 is the standard dimension of a TV, computer or phone screen. Widescreen video is usually when you see those back bars at the top and bottom of your tv screen in movies. There are different widescreen dimensions that can be used. The most common is 2.39:1 which the Komodo can shoot. However, it’s full sensor is actually 17:9 which is a less common wide screen format, but still useful.
